A great album! The debut of this Dutch supergroup (a keyboardist from Ekseption, a bassist from Cuby & The Blizzards and a drummer from Focus) belongs to the very canon of European progressive rock. The first track, running to as much as thirteen minutes, is a masterpiece of the art-rock world, resembling the best work of Focus, ELP, Refugee and Yes. I remember that years ago I simply could not tear myself away from this record! Additionally two tracks from the single and the first part of the third LP "White Ladies" (1976). A MUST! -

The second album by a Dutch supergroup made up of former members of Ekseption, Cuby & The Blizzards and (on the second one) Wolf (Ian Mosley, later of Marillion). The music is very richly arranged and draws on the work of classical composers. The band played without a guitar, but fans of ELP, Yes and Refugee will be very pleased. The album also includes a 22-minute suite. In addition, half of the third album, 'White Ladies' (1976). Recommended! -

A fantastic only album, released in 1971 (by United Artists), by a French formation singing mainly in English and playing thoroughbred, slightly psychedelic, rather dark progressive rock in the style of somewhat softened output of Jethro Tull, Van Der Graaf Generator, Procol Harum and early Genesis - with a touch of ballad. Attention! The 'thin' sounds of a storm at the beginning of track five are not the fault of the remastering, but of the poor form of the effects specialist, as on the vinyl it sounds just as poor... It is a very good and fairly easy-to-get-into album - sounding more like 1969-70 than 1971. In addition two unreleased instrumental recordings from French television are included. Top five of French rock! A MUST! -

A new, LIMITED edition of the only and truly wonderful album by the Brits, originally released in 1971 by RCA Neon. This is one of the best, forgotten titles when it comes to British progressive, slightly jazzy rock! A rich sound full of changes of mood, plenty of instrumental parts, convincing arrangements and distinct inspirations from the music of the East. The band's style can be compared to East Of Eden, Out Of Focus, Caravan and Jade Warrior. Additionally included are three unique and very nice recordings made for BBC radio in 1969-1970 under the banner Windmill, namely covers of compositions by The Beatles ('Rocky Racoon'), Cat Stevens ('Matthew And Son') and Colosseum ('Elegy'). Windmill recorded several singles and after the tragic death of their vocalist changed their name to Tonton Macoute. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! Condition: NEW, sealed. -

Remastered edition of the debut album, released in 1970 (and worth about 1000 euros in the original in perfect condition - even the reissue from the label Second Battle, from the 90s, is worth 100 euros), by a great German group playing a rather dark variety of progressive rock in the style of Frumpy, Jethro Tull, Out Of Focus, Orange Peel, Julian's Treatment or East Of Eden - with a female vocal. 63 minutes of sophisticated, yet catchy, juicy music with the use of wind instruments (sax, flute). In terms of the instrumental layer it is an impeccable record, though some people have a problem getting used to the voice of the vocalist, who is somewhat reminiscent of Inga Rumpf (of Frumpy). I happen to like that vocal, besides there is not much of it. A classic of German rock - tasting much better after two or three listens! The CD contains a bonus track from a rare German compilation from 1970. Highly recommended! -

Remastered and genuinely fantastic-sounding edition of the excellent debut album, released in 1972, by a Yugoslav, progressive formation. Today it is hard to believe, but in Yugoslavia, dominated by single releases, it was only the second LP (full-length record) of rock music released in that country! A few years earlier only the pop rock debut of Grupa 220 had had that honour. To tell the truth it is hard to define the music of Time, but one can probably risk a comparison with Traffic, Procol Harum, Focus, and even Atomic Rooster on sleeping pills. In addition two great live recordings lasting 23 minutes in total and two tracks from the brand new 1973 single are included. A MUST! -

Released by Metronome in 1971, an excellent, classic album by a Danish progressive band with a full sound based on Hammond organ and juicy guitar sounds. Fairly long, 6-8 minute tracks with intelligent arrangements, reminiscent of the most interesting recordings of the brilliant British band If, as well as Hannibal (from the UK) and the popular Danish group Midnight Sun. The record was dominated by attractive saxophone and flute parts, at times quite heavy, intense guitar parts, and also the then obligatory Hammond organ sounds. Attention was drawn to the very catchy compositions, excellent, breathy production and spacious sound. An almost perfect record! The original Danish vinyl in perfect condition sells for 1200 euros! AN ABSOLUTE MUST! Condition: NEW, SEALED. -

Tastefully presented American edition, in a 12-page booklet containing, among other things, a reproduction of the vinyl's inner sleeve and plenty of unfamiliar photos. This is a very good, and at times downright sensational, heavily improvised album by a German formation (originating from Trikolon), playing a mixture of organ sounds in the vein of The Nice, Egg and Brian Auger, with swinging, guitar-driven (slightly Purple-esque) improvisations - always against the background of a pulsating, racing rhythm section. The few vocals are in English. This is a record that will delight all lovers of solid German playing from the very beginning of the 70s. The production of the record itself is good, although one has to remember that it was a private pressing. As a bonus, an excellent 14-minute live track has been added - perhaps even better than the album! Highly recommended! (JL) -

Superb, 80-minute unofficial material coming from two BBC Transcription Service vinyl records - released exclusively for radio stations and absolutely unavailable in shops! Tempest was formed on the initiative of Colosseum leader Jon Hiseman, bassist Mark Clarke (Colosseum, Uriah Heep), vocalist Paul Williams (ex-Bluesbreakers, Juicy Lucy) and the excellent guitarist Allan Holdsworth (Igginbottom, Nucleus, and later Soft Machine and U.K.). The first 54 minutes are a recording of an excellent concert recorded as a quintet - with two guitarists: Holdsworth and Ollie Halsall (ex-Patto). It so happened that Halsall, regarded today as one of the best guitarists in the history of rock, joined the group... the day before, hence the guitar attack here is unbelievable! Seriously, there are moments here that are almost impossible to believe! The last 26 minutes are a performance from 1974 - recorded after the release of the second LP - as a trio, though the playing is still very good! ATTENTION! The material from 1973 came out a few years ago on the double CD anthology "Under The Blossom", but in the absence of the original BBC vinyl the label Sanctuary made use of an old bootleg, which was not only dullish, but also slowed down! I assure you that the version on this CD, limited to 500 copies, sounds simply frenzied! A MUST! (JL) -

I draw your attention to Holdsworth's excellent guitar parts and Hiseman's dense, as always, drumming! A must! -

Released in 1969, a superb debut album by a Finnish band (the most popular alongside Wigwam) (with a British vocalist) referring to the style of very early Jethro Tull and Procol Harum and Traffic's second album. Very good guitars, a bit of flute and saxophone, great playing from the rhythm section, and that ambient, spacious, lively sound characteristic of the music of the late 60s. Without doubt it is in the top ten of Scandinavian rock! In addition, three tracks from singles (known from the previous CD edition) and two NEVER-RELEASED 12-minute pieces: a live cover of the best Blodwyn Pig track and a great studio track from 1970! Note! This is not the same material as on the 'Swedish' album of the same title recorded a year later! A must! (JL) -

Excellent compilation CD released by a small French label. The driving force of this release is the sensational formation Tapestry - an excellent British progressive group resembling the folk-progressive Trees and a delicate, very early Genesis in one - with female and male vocals. For unknown reasons the group never signed a record contract, but in August 1971 it played a concert at the BBC's London headquarters, a 25-minute excerpt of which was recorded and released in 1971... in 100 copies! I stress: this is fantastic, sophisticated, airy, melodic, progressive playing that should delight every fan of this genre! AN ABSOLUTE Must! The remaining 55 minutes are filled with generally excellent recordings from BBC promotional vinyls (together with the announcements of Brian Matthew, whom I adore) by unknown, or completely forgotten, formations, such as the heavy, psychedelic Griffin (that is, post-Skip Bifferty with a young Alan White on drums), the folk-progressive Ora (here exceptionally with the later rhythm section... of Wishbone Ash), Wommet (that is, pre-Mick Abrahams Band with violin), Blodwyn (that is, the declining Blodwyn Pig without Mick Abrahams but with... Peter Banks of Yes), the excellent, guitar-driven, intense Sweet Marriage (not known from the one single released in Germany - it is on some compilation from the label Wooden Hill) or finally the completely unknown, hard rock Natural Gas (sounding like Leaf Hound or a heavier Humble Pie) and Welfare State - the psychedelic-electronic White Noise collaborating with a theatre group... The whole thing sounds very professional and very clean. This is a truly sensational CD - without a doubt one of the most interesting and, all in all, most surprising reissues of recent years! A MUST! -

Remastered and beautifully presented British edition of the second album in the discography, recorded in an already changed (compared with the debut) line-up. It is still not electronic music, but rather more experimental krautrock. This British edition contains both sides of the sensational, indeed legendary, single Ultima Thule (Part 1/Part 2). It is progressive dynamite (guitar/mellotron/dense rhythm section) à la the best moments on the LP 2066 & Then! The vinyl single is worth about 150 euros! That number alone is worth the price of the CD... Plus the 8-minute Oszillator Planet Concert, recorded live in 1971 in Austria. Recommended. -

A German reissue of one of literally a handful of the best (forgotten) records in the history of British rock! The album, once released by Decca, contains four fascinating, densely textured tracks full of changes of tempo and mood - characterised by wonderful playing from the whole trio, and especially the guitarist. The CD includes, among others, a 21-minute hard-progressive suite! In addition, three sensational recordings (lasting 22 minutes in total) made at the BBC studios - in my opinion perhaps even better than the fantastic album! The track "C.D.", meanwhile, is one of the ten best heavy rock numbers I have heard in my life! This is the old German edition from the early 90s (with rather poor and not very clear artwork, but with great sound) once prepared by the Berlin label SPM in cooperation with the band's leader Pete Dunton. An absolute must! -

Remastered edition (from Enigmatic) of the excellent debut album by a Hungarian jazz-prog-rock formation - recorded and originally released (1971) in Australia (on the label Spin - in the original, silver cover with a black logo), and only a year later in Hungary, as "Devil's Masquerade". This is fantastic, progressive playing with strong jazz influences - no worse than the work of Colosseum, Blodwyn Pig or Chicago Transit Authority - not to mention lesser-known groups such as Heaven, Hannibal, Samurai or Walrus. The band could excellently keep a balance between genres (often even brushing against heavy rock...) and to tell the truth, with the possible exception of the Czech Flamengo (LP "Kure v Hodinkach" from 1972), I do not recall better jazz-rock playing from the Eastern Bloc - this album is practically beyond competition! A great-sounding and attractive-looking reissue of the only, but splendid, album by an Icelandic band, recorded in 1972 in London and originally released privately by the band. The Svanfridur musicians played ambitious and very atmospheric, classic progressive rock, with distinct influences of psychedelia, folk, jazz and heavy sounds. The quartet's music can be roughly described as a combination of the style of Jethro Tull (with far less flute), Wishbone Ash, Gnidrolog, Curved Air and East Of Eden. It was decidedly British playing, but with a large dose of Scandinavian gloom and melancholy - very sophisticated, a bit hard to take in at once, but in its own way orderly and ear-catching. Almost every fan of good old rock should be delighted with this record! Currently the first edition in perfect condition is worth 1000 euros! A MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

On CD for the first time! The debut and very underrated album by this American, progressive formation is usually wrongly described as soul rock and for that reason almost completely ignored by lovers of our favourite genre. A big mistake, because 80% of the music on this great album is very British in mood progressive rock based on the juicy and ubiquitous sound of Hammond organ and without a doubt modelled on the work of early Procol Harum! Also importantly, the band's leader (one Kosinski) could genuinely compose catchy and at the same time almost anthemic tracks - which of course added great charm to the whole. In fact only the opening hard-soul-rock track and the gospel-style, rock ending departed from the progressive style. Both passages are quite nice. Everything between them, however, is top-class prog rock that many more popular formations would surely have liked to record! A MUST! -

Made in 1971 by German Bellaphon (like the albums by the groups Diabolus, Little Big Horn and Crazy Label, which were not released in the British Isles), the only, but great, album by a British trio (with the former drummer of the group Jody Grind), playing fairly heavyish, but sophisticated progressive rock (with Hammond organ) in the style of Atomic Rooster, Argent, Procol Harum, Aardvark, and even early Pink Floyd. This is an absolute treat for all lovers of old, classic playing from the very beginning of the 70s! This material was released in a dreadful form (on a very crackly and dull CD) in the mid-90s; fortunately the present edition sounds perfect! A must! -

An American band with a strong, psychedelic sound based on Hammond organ, with slight influences of blues and classical music. The first record (from 1970) is simply excellent - melodic, very intense, heavy, a bit Doors-like (with elements of Vanilla Fudge, Iron Butterfly and early British progression) and decidedly catchy - simply top-shelf rock classics. What is more, the track "Green-Eyed Lady" is a rock classic known forever! The second album (1971) is slightly weaker, generally gentler, but still with plenty of nice moments and generally very decent. Remastered edition from the label BGO. Highly recommended! -

Released in 1972 by the German branch of Epic, the only, but splendid, album, containing thrillingly performed, richly arranged progressive music typical of Germany, based on the interplay of organ, electric and acoustic guitars, flute, saxophone, recalling a combination of the style of, among others, Jane, Out Of Focus and Murphy Blend. The band drew on various sources; sometimes it sounded almost hard rock, at other times it approached the style of jazz-rock, or showed a fascination with the work of Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull. Generally the record should delight all fans of good old, juicy playing. The CD contains over 30 minutes of excellent, rare material (different, much better than the two live tracks on the old and worse-sounding Ohrwashl edition), recorded in the studio and live in 1971-1972. In 1973 the group changed its name to Sahara and released the great 'Sunrise' (1974). A MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

This only album by a forgotten British group, recorded in 1975, without a doubt belongs, alongside the Refugee LP and the Druid debut, among the 3-4 best progressive records from the British Isles of the mid-70s! Inspired above all by the work of early Genesis, and also Camel, Fruupp and Yes, this very talented band sounded more like 1973 than 1975. Particularly noteworthy are the majestic, extended, epic forms, but also the catchy, slightly Beatles-esque melodies (as well as references to pop music), and the perfect, very rich production. Some passages sound so good that it is hard to believe! No lover of progressive sounds can pass by this CD indifferently! This edition sounds excellent and very spacious. Highly recommended! -

A new, remastered edition of the great, though practically forgotten by the world, only album by a British band. Released at the beginning of 1971 by RCA Victor (and worth 400-500 euros on vinyl today), the Brits' only, but splendid, LP contained heavy, very thoroughbred playing (with light elements of blues and prog rock) in the traditional British style, recalling a little the debut of Budgie, May Blitz records, the debut of Free and Leaf Hound. Devoid of any promotion (and probably a mere, unscrupulous tax write-off for the record label), the record sank without trace on the market - like hundreds of other titles released by major labels at the turn of the 60s and 70s. The band certainly gained no popularity from the dreadful sleeve, which looked as if splattered with mud. It is hard to believe that it was signed by the man known from the debut of Black Sabbath and records by the groups Spring, Indian Summer, Affinity, Colosseum - Keef... After a few months, two Stonehouse musicians formed the gentler and more progressive band Asgard. A MUST! Condition: new, sealed. (JL) -

Years later drummer Pique Withers found fame and fortune in Dire Straits (the first four albums), while vocalist Pat Moran became an esteemed producer. Released in 1972 by British Charisma, the only album by the hard-progressive group Spreadeagle is a chunk of great, guitar-driven, juicy rock (with numerous improvised parts) in the style of Wishbone Ash, very early Camel, Spontaneous Combustion, Home, as well as Ginhouse and Public Foot The Roman. The three longer tracks, lasting 21 minutes in total, are simply superb, while the four shorter compositions are hard to fault (they are really nice), although inevitably the instrumental parts are not as impressive. Generally it is completely forgotten, and at the same time very convincing, top-drawer British hard-progressive rock! Excellent production and great sound quality! Highly recommended! -

Limited to 500 copies, an hour-long CD containing, among other things, a great, 43-minute recording of a show by the British progressive band that took place in Berlin in December 1970 (sometimes wrongly labelled as Essen 1969). Note the setlist - three numbers from the LP "Last Puff" (in much better, more dynamic versions) and several 'covers' never played on albums! It was a show from the band's last tour (before it split for three years), and the recording features, among others, the excellent keyboardist John Hawken (ex-Renaissance, later in Strawbs) and the bassist Steve Thompson, known from Bluesbreakers and Stone The Crows. The sound quality is very good (it is a copy of a recording from the mixing desk), it is a great pleasure to listen to (there are no other recordings from this period!), although not perfect. In addition, four very nice recordings are included, including two tracks from 1969 from BBC radio - unreleased on the official CD reissues! This is a real treat for all fans of this, in fact underrated, though for some time quite popular band! Highly recommended! -

Remastered 2022 edition, to which a second CD has been added, containing a recording of a concert on 11 October 1975 at Nottingham University, remastered from the original master tapes, previously released under the title "British Tour '75". Unfortunately Holdsworth was no longer in the band then, having left for the New Tony Williams Lifetime, and he recommended John Etheridge, who had previously played in Icarus and Darryl Way's Wolf, in his place. The whole thing comes in a gatefold digipak. Highly recommended! (MU) -

Released in 1971 on double vinyl (lasting 56 minutes), the only album by an American hard-progressive formation, playing rather in the British style - with Hammond organ and numerous changes of mood. This is genuinely absorbing, moving (plenty of dark moods...) and easily accessible material that will delight most of our loyal customers. This music reminds me most of the only album (released in 1969) by the excellent British group Plus. Truly, it is hard to understand why such a good LP never came out on CD... Highly recommended!
