Writing the first volume (A-F) of the record guide to British rock took me nearly 3 years, but it was probably worth it! On 520 COLOUR pages I have included over 1000 record reviews (often track by track) of as many as 360 artists active in the British Isles in the 60s and 70s. Printed on thick, coated paper, the book contains as many as 1700 colour reproductions (6cm by 6 cm) of the covers of original LPs, singles, EPs and CDs, as well as scans of first-edition vinyl labels only for selected releases (Vertigo, Harvest, Island, Deram etc). Additionally, at the end of each entry I have included full discographies (up to and including 1979) of catalogue albums (the A and B sides of all singles appear in the text instead), and I have also listed the more important CDs with archive material. I wrote this book for myself too, so I really put my back into it! Oh, and I have rated every title subjectively (on a scale of 1-10) - which can be very useful when hunting for records. Fifteen years have passed since the first volume was published. It is a fact that is hard to argue with, or to find anything in my defence... It is very likely that I came close to a world record for the length of the wait for the continuation of a series, and perhaps I should apply to the Guinness Book of Records myself :-) OK, joking aside... I am genuinely sorry that with such a long wait, full of missed deadlines, to put it colloquially, I 'overdid it' and disappointed legions of fans of top-quality rock, and for this I genuinely and sincerely apologise! The second volume probably was not worth waiting a full 15 years for, but I confess that it is the best writing of my life! I wrote the book, which runs to nearly 700 pages, completely anew in the last 18 months! On exactly 688 COLOUR pages (that is 168 more than in the first volume) I included over 1000 record reviews (this time mostly track by track!) of as many as 250 artists active in the British Isles in the 60s and 70s. Additionally I added the most important, concise information on the artists' careers, line-up changes and sometimes even an anecdote... Generally, the second volume is a little more narrative than its predecessor and not just a plain 'no frills' description of records. So I devoted 36 pages to Genesis, 24 pages to Jimi Hendrix, 23 each to Jethro Tull and The Hollies, 19 to Elton John, 17 pages to Hawkwind, and even The Incredible String Band took up 11 pages and Henry Cow over 4... Printed on thick, coated paper, the book contains nearly 2400 specially selected colour reproductions (6 cm by 6 cm) of the covers of original LPs, singles, EPs and CDs, as well as scans of only the first editions of selected vinyl labels. Additionally, at the end of each entry I included complete discographies (up to and including 1979) of catalogue albums (the A and B sides of all the singles appear in the text, however) and also listed the more important CDs with archive material. The more popular artists are covered up to the end of the 80s - with photographs of catalogue records and sometimes even singles! In some cases I covered important titles from the significant year 1980 - track by track. Oh, and I rated every title subjectively (on a scale of 1-10) - which can be very useful when hunting for records. If anyone would like a signature/dedication - I will do it with pleasure! We do not send the book together with records, as it is difficult to pack them together safely. 'Brytyjski Rock' is available only at Megadisc and from the Kagra publishing house and will not be available at Empik or in any other bookshop! Here is another of Martin Popoff's more than 40 books – one of the most prolific music journalists in the broadly understood Rock world. A richly illustrated history of the world's best-known metal band (presented in a nutshell, without needless gossip and deliberation about the private lives of the band members, with really few exceptions), containing nothing but hard facts about releases, concerts, the making of the recordings and over 300 unique photographs (from various periods of the band, concert posters, tickets, passes and T-shirts), published in a large format, in full colour, on coated paper. The history described begins shortly before the formation of Metallica, where, under the influence of a fascination with the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and resistance to the then dominant trend of Glam Rock, the idea of starting a band is born, and then Metallica's first line-up and first tracks come into being, which set off an avalanche of many later events, bringing the band to the very peak of popularity that lasts to this day. The content of the book usually revolves around the events connected with each album released, presenting descriptions of each release, short analyses of individual tracks with passing information about the lyrical and graphic side. The information contained in the book is supported by direct statements, thoughts and reflections of the musicians (current and former) as well as managers or producers. Of course, apart from presenting the band's road to the very peak of fame, there is no lack of recollections concerning the commotion around the band's status and the difficult period in Metallica's history, from the release of the controversial album "Load" to the appearance of the album "St. Anger" and the presentation of the motives and decisions taken at that time concerning the further image, as well as the musical style adopted. Since the band's story went on, the last pages of this book bring us further provocative events (such as the latest line-up changes – the replacement of Jason Newsted with Robert Trujillo and the realisation of the "Lulu" project with Lou Reed) and the triumphant return to roots with the album "Death Magnetic". Unfortunately every publication has its end, and a good ending to the book is the musicians' statements about a possible end of their career, and moreover variety is provided by interesting reviews of the band's studio albums (written by well-known music journalists) and a full, detailed discography, descriptions of selected singles, live material and videography.
