A remastered Hungarian CD from 2022. Released in 1981, the tenth, Hungarian album was a considerable and rather unpleasant surprise for Omega fans because it was characterised by a modern, electronic sound, where synthesisers and extended keyboard parts played as important a role as guitars. The album in part still retained a progressive, hard rock character, but at the same time contained more compact and accessible compositions than those on earlier records. On the other hand the music is anyway miles better than that nightmarish, off-putting sleeve... Additionally 5 live bonus tracks are included, presenting Omega's best-known pieces in 'live' versions. Worth the risk! -

A compilation of recordings from 1966–1968, that is the period just before the debut album 'Trombitas Fredi' (1968), and of course before the band worked out its own, psych-prog-rock sound in 1969. The remastered, Hungarian CD contains both Hungarian compositions and interpretations of the world hits of the day, including pieces by The Rolling Stones, The Hollies, The Spencer Davis Group, Tom Jones and Herman's Hermits. The material shows the group as an excellent beat band, drawing on British rock, rhythm & blues and soul, but already revealing its own character. János Kóbor's characteristic singing, melodic guitar and organ parts and youthful energy give these recordings an exceptional character. A MUST! -

A 2CD collecting two somewhat later, but probably the most important, English-language albums by Omega from the period of its (relatively) greatest international successes. It is worth knowing that in 1975-1978 the band's records came out not only in Germany, but also in Britain, in several European countries and in North America! "Time Robber" (1976) was characterised by the mighty sound of Moog synthesisers and mellotron and striking guitar parts, which gave the music a monumental, almost symphonic character. "Skyrover" (1978) develops this style, offering more compact compositions, while retaining the space, melodiousness and cosmic atmosphere characteristic of the band. The distinct keyboard parts, dynamic rhythm section and expressive singing of János Kóbor created a coherent whole. Highly recommended! (JL) -

The two-disc release from the German label MIG Music combines two classic titles from the somewhat later period of Omega's activity. Released first in Germany in the English version, Gammapolis (1978), popular among fans, is an album full of extended compositions, striking synthesiser and mellotron parts and characteristic, melodic guitars, which create a monumental, cosmic sound, combining progressive rock with hard rock energy and catchy themes. Filling CD2, 'Live at The Kisstadion' (1979) was recorded during concerts in Budapest in September 1979 and shows the band in excellent live form, presenting extended versions of pieces, virtuoso instrumental parts and superb cooperation between the musicians. CD2 – the original raw mix of the album from 1972. CD3 – a new mix prepared in 2022. CD4 – an amateur live recording from Nyíregyháza from 1972. The price is not low, but the publisher certainly knew that this material is priceless to fans! A MUST! -

Remastered edition of the fourth European album, released in its day (1975) by West German Bellaphon, as well as by British Decca! No Eastern Bloc band could boast a comparable achievement! The English-language record, adorned with an attractive cover, contained tracks known (in other versions) from the earlier three Hungarian albums and, as is usual for Omega, impressed with a powerful, juicily produced ('wall of sound') dose of progressive rock with heavier elements. On the other hand, you could hear that the group was increasingly heading towards more intricate regions of symphonic rock. It is just a pity that no bonus tracks were added to the CD. Highly recommended! -

This is a remastered new edition, expanded with nine rare tracks (including "Dziewczyna o perłowych włosach" in English and German), of the first "West German", English-language album, recorded in an excellent studio under the eye of the experienced producers Peter Hauke and Dieter Dierks (Nektar, Grobschnitt, Message, Scorpions) and released by Bellaphon in 1973. Most of the tracks appeared a year earlier on the LP "Elo Omega", though here they sound much more professional. Listening to Omega one can only wonder about the condition of Polish rock at the time - all that massacred and aimlessly meandering SBB or even a slightly disoriented Niemen... Well, "in the kingdom of the blind the one-eyed man is king"... Plus 9 tracks - including 3 single versions of "Dziewczyna" and German-language tracks from the radio archive. A must! -

Brand new Italian CD containing a recording of a superb, 70-minute performance that the band gave in May 1975 in one of the West German cities. The band summed up its early period in a worthy manner, performing several of its best compositions, such as 'Dziewczyna o perłowych włosach' (in Hungarian) or 'Magiczny, biały kamień'! A MUST! -

This is one of the most cult and rarest British private press records of the 70s, and among collectors it long functioned almost as a legend. The album was recorded using practically home methods by Oliver Chaplin and the whole thing was created in a spirit of complete independence as a mixture of psychedelia, acid folk and experimental blues. The recordings were made on a 4-track TEAC tape recorder, without synthesisers, often using a single microphone. This gives the record a very raw, organic and at times even "hallucinatory" sound. Short pieces flow one into another and the music at times recalls the style of Syd Barrett, and at moments the experiments of Captain Beefheart. -

Fairly long, 6-8 minute tracks with intelligent arrangements reminiscent of the style of German prog rock in the vein of early Jane, Satin Whale and Grobschnitt. The original vinyl in perfect condition sells for 1000 euros! Plus seven recordings, stylistically very similar to the content of the LP, made in 1972-1974, are included. Highly recommended! (JL) -

Nurt's music was, on the drab Polish market, a very invigorating combination of the style of late psychedelia/early progressive rock (frequent changes of rhythm and mood, plenty of flute, guitar sounding like a sitar) with heavy guitar rock. In our opinion, alongside the debut of Breakout, Niemen's "Enigmatic", the Skaldowie's "Krywań, Krywań" and Grechuta's "Korowód", it is one of the five best Polish rock records of the 60s and 70s! 2003 edition, in a digipak. The whole was filled by two long, formally complex compositions - one of which took the form of a 20-minute improvisation performed by... the band Jade Warrior. All that remained of the old band was the name and the producer. In addition, two bonus tracks from a single. The artwork and the interview have been fully reproduced. -

A new edition (in a plastic jewel case) of the classic fourth album (1972) by a popular and esteemed Italian progressive band. Originally released as a double vinyl and sung in English, the title contained, as it were, two different titles in one! The first part (record) was dominated by delicate, classical-leaning sounds (including organ, mellotron, choirs) with plenty of acoustic, spacious passages, though not free of dynamic changes (e.g. the 10-minute 'To Edith'). The second, much more rock part, on the other hand, was filled with compositions played live in the studio (with an audience pasted in here and there), almost hard rock, though at times somewhat chaotic, which could easily have found a place on the earlier LP 'Concerto Grosso' (1971) (e.g. 'Bright Lights' or the 18-minute 'Lying Here' closing the whole), inspired by Deep Purple, Jethro Tull and Colosseum. Highly recommended! -

Heavy, progressive playing was rarely better! In my opinion, this title, released in spring 1973, is the best progressive album ever recorded in Italy! Full stop. The music of Museo Rosenbach is a combination of the style of Jethro Tull, King Crimson, P.F.M. and Deep Purple with more than a pinch of Italian classical music. The 20-minute title suite simply overwhelms with its rich melodies, numerous changes of mood, inventive construction and the powerful sound of the instrumental parts (organ, piano, mellotron, guitars) - at moments close to the style of juicy, heavy rock. The remaining 3 tracks are practically in no way inferior to it. It is hardly surprising that vinyl collectors pay as much as 4000 euros for perfect, original Italian copies! A great advantage of this release is the excellent sound quality - (after listening to the whole thing) I am sure that it is clearer than the earlier Italian editions. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! -

This splendid album by a forgotten German band, released at the beginning of 1971 by the Kukuck label (known among other things also for records by Out Of Focus and Armaggedon) - in my humble opinion is probably the best title from Germany in the circle of heavy, progressive rock! This imaginative album was characterised by perfectly balanced proportions between catchy guitar riffs and the classical-leaning organ passages dominant here. As a lover of Deep Purple I simply find it hard to tear myself away from this record, although compared with the Brits Murphy Blend sound rather as if their leader, by contrast, was their own Jon Lord, obsessed with the work of the classics (mainly Bach), and the German Blackmore played somewhat more sparingly and somewhat in the background. This record must not be missed! Excellent sound - slightly clearer than on the Ohrwashl edition, and a much nicer booklet containing several rare photos of this splendid band! NOTE! The short sound of a cuckoo clock placed at the end of the record always appeared at the end of each vinyl side of albums on the Kuckuck label and until now had not been included! AN ABSOLUTE MUST! This 80-minute, unofficial live album was made during the American tour promoting the LP "Octave" - the first with the keyboardist Patrick Moraz, well known from Yes, Mainhorse and Refugee! The concert was originally released by the American radio station ABC as a super rare, promotional, three-disc vinyl (together with adverts). The four probably weakest tracks from this performance appeared a few years ago among the bonus tracks on the CD "Octave", while all the rest (a real "The Best Of" of 1967-1972) has now come out in a run of just 500 copies. The sound quality is excellent, and the playing first-rate! An absolute must for every fan of classic progressive rock! -

It is hard to describe this eclectic, highly varied, guitar-driven album, which is somewhat reminiscent of the debut by Blonde On Blonde and of the only album by the excellent but underappreciated group Plus. There is a bit of everything on it: late psychedelia, plenty of changing moods, and a lot of heavy sounds interwoven with acoustic passages. The album is worth listening to several times, as there is really a lot going on! Highly recommended! -

A limited, European reissue of the only, but excellent, album, released in November 1971, by an Australian band playing heavy, progressive rock in the style of strong Spooky Tooth from their best period with an admixture of Atomic Rooster and Deep Purple. In fact the band performed its own versions of tracks from the LP 'The Last Puff' (Spooky Tooth, 1970): 'The Wrong Time' and (composed by the Beatles) here an 8-minute 'I Am The Walrus'! Of the 7 tracks as many as 5 were excellent covers of other artists' pieces and 2 were the band's original compositions - including an excellent, improvised, over 10-minute track with flute in the leading role! Generally the album was filled to the brim with the juicy, "British" sound of 1969-1970, that is plenty of Hammonds, striking yet solid guitars and thoroughbred vocals: a predominant female (great) and a marginally appearing male (OK). Once again: there is zero filler on this album! Released in a run of only 500 copies, the McPhee vinyl album is probably the greatest rock rarity from the circle of Australian old rock, because every serious collector wants to have it and listen to it! Well-preserved copies with the checkered front and the very dark sleeve, impossible to keep without minor scuffs, when they appear cost over 2000 euros! A must! (JL) Condition: New, sealed. -

As on the previous album, the record was dominated by very substantial, shorter forms, although the best part of the album was without a doubt the 11-minute "Games We Play". To this day I find it hard to understand why this band did not become huge outside Australia... Plus two tracks - the live "Future Of Our Nation" from 1971 (in a different version from that on "Nickelodeon") and the studio "Freedom Seekers" from 1972, recorded already as a trio, which was unfortunately the band's swan song. These three wonderful albums from the early 70s by this Australian band can easily compete with the best hard-progressive records from Britain or continental Europe, and often beat them hands down! The concert recorded in January 1971 (between the albums "Choice Cuts" and "A Toast To Panama Red") and released on vinyl only in Australia is, in my opinion, among the best rock live albums - the decidedly guitar-led playing is generally slow, intense and heavy. On top of that, almost all of the compositions (except "Because I Love You") were brand new! Do listen to the nearly 20-minute, veeery heavy version of "Evil Woman", inspired by the brilliant version by Spooky Tooth from their second album! Interestingly, the record has an almost perfect, nearly studio sound quality! This is an essential complement to the band's earlier two albums! Additionally included are three live recordings from Australian TV, including a great, heavy version of "Rio De Camero". AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -

A new, limited, European edition of the absolutely excellent album, released by EMI in April 1971 (in their native Australia by Columbia under the title "Choice Cuts", and in the UK as "Master's Apprentices" - by Regal Zonophone), by a criminally underrated (outside their homeland) band. In my humble opinion it is hard to imagine better, classically rock, hard-progressive playing from the early 70s! Recorded at London's Abbey Road (see: the photo on the back of the CD...), the band's third album is stunning and quite melodic playing in the vein of Cream, Wishbone Ash, Jethro Tull, Ginhouse and the Australian Tamam Shud. The trademark of MA's sound was the superb combination of electric and acoustic guitars (often playing alongside each other). Fairly short, though very substantial compositions. It is really hard to understand why this band did not become huge outside Australia, where it had the status of demigods... Released in December of the same year, 1971 (again made at Abbey Road), the somewhat more progressive LP "A Toast To Panama Red" was without a doubt on an equally high level, though for me 'Choice Cuts' will always be a magical work. It is an hour-long story about Cerpin Taxt, a man who tries to commit suicide by overdosing on morphine. As a result of this attempt he falls into a week-long coma, during which he experiences visions of humanity and of his own psyche. On waking he is filled with dissatisfaction with the real world and kills himself. The story of Cerpin Taxt is based on the death of the artist and Bixler-Zavala's friend from El Paso - Julio Venegas. -
