What a fantastic record! Great-sounding edition, expanded by over 45 minutes, of reportedly the first rock LP released in Spain! Earlier local groups had recorded only singles... Made in summer 1970, the excellent debut album contained a concentrated dose of juicy, improvised, almost trance-like, English-sung heavy-prog rock, with the sound of heavily overdriven guitars (one with wah-wah, the other with fuzz - that is a fact!) and ubiquitous organs - with clear influences of psychedelia. In my opinion it is in the top three of Spanish rock - alongside the brilliant LP by the group Pan Y Regaliz (1971) and the record by Eduardo Bort (1975)! The main point of the album was the 25-minute, two-part, title track, reportedly recorded live in the studio - now without the cut in the middle! The cover, meanwhile, reportedly pleased Salvador Dali himself! In fact on one of the photos on the CD the legendary painter poses together with the band! I stress: in terms of sound quality this edition beats the Spanish edition hands down, which had clear vinyl crackle! The six bonus tracks (another excellent 40 minutes) came from the same recording session and were in no way inferior to the LP. In addition three tracks from early, psychedelic singles have been added. An absolute must! -

Limited, unofficial French CD, containing two performances by the excellent, progressive and probably still underrated group Manfred Mann's Earth Band, recorded by the BBC Transcription Service and released on super rare vinyls (worth 1500-2000 PLN each) over 40 years ago. The first lasted 25 minutes and was recorded before the release of the first album and sounds fairly similar to MM Chapter III. The second performance lasted over 50 minutes and contained long, typically progressive tracks from the three excellent records "Glorified Magnified" (1972), "Messin" (1973) and "Solar Fire" (1973). In all 77 minutes of top-shelf British prog rock with perfect, clean sound. A must! -

Among them are three sessions for BBC Radio One's "In Concert", from 1972-1975, several tracks each for the programmes of John Peel, Bob Harris and "Sounds Of The Seventies", as well as a complete recording of the performance on the "BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show Live At Reading Festival 1983". On the two DVDs, meanwhile, we have previously unreleased performances on the "Old Grey Whistle Test", the recently discovered, 24-minute documentary "New Horizons (Man's First Seven Inch Record)" and a concert as part of "Farewell At The Roundhouse". Vocalist Carmen Maki was once called the 'Japanese Janis Joplin', and although many people are outraged by such a comparison, in my humble opinion Janis never made such a wonderful (as a whole) album as Carmen did with the heavy rock group Blues Creation (in 1971)! In any case, in 1974 the vocalist founded the group Oz, and her debut (sung in Japanese) album came out in January 1975 - dominated by long, extended, heavyish progressive tracks with keyboards (mainly a combination of Hammond organ and piano), modelled on the sound of Deep Purple and Blues Creation, but not free of moods à la Pink Floyd or Barclay James Harvest. Lovers of classic playing will certainly be very pleased with this record, and Carmen Maki herself sang superbly! The CD was mastered from the original vinyl and sounds superb! Very highly recommended! -

This is the band Mainhorse, but in a slightly earlier incarnation! This excellent, limited, rare CD (only 500 copies) contains progressive material, unreleased at the time and issued only in 2007 (on a long-deleted and somewhat worse-sounding CD from RPM), for the first album of the group Mainhorse Airline planned for 1970 - with Moraz, Ristori and Graham - and with David Kubinec (ex-World Of Oz) on vocals! Most of the compositions, in significantly altered (less psychedelic!) versions, appeared a year later (in 1971) on the classic Mainhorse album released by Polydor (also available on CD - now with great bonus tracks from the mega-rare 1972 single). Besides that, there are several unreleased compositions here! This 54-minute REMASTERED and CLEARLY IMPROVED material was originally transferred from several acetates (test pressings, very delicate vinyl), yet the sound quality is almost ideal - only occasionally can slight surface noise be heard. Note the new, beautiful cover by Roger Dean! It is, quite deservedly, an essential item for every lover of early progressive rock! A must! -

Plenty of Hammonds, sharp guitars, extended compositions and plenty of changing moods. The top shelf of progressive rock of the early 70s! In the opinion of many it is a better album than the sole achievement of the aforementioned Refugee. An absolute MUST! -

I admit that I am not a particular fan of Magma, but this debut, kept in a fairly classic style (a double on vinyl and only on CD named "Kobaia"...) is simply excellent! Highly recommended! (JL) -

Together with Laurelie, Waterloo and Irish Coffee, the formation Mad Curry belonged to the pioneering group of progressive formations that appeared in Belgium at the very end of the 60s. Originally released in the form of a poster folding out "into six", the band's only album contained jazzy, still slightly psychedelic, fairly melodic, but already decidedly progressive playing typical of that period (1969-1970), based on the interplay of saxophone, flute and Hammond organ (but without guitar) - modelled above all on the work of early Van Der Graaf Generator and Brian Auger with Julie Driscoll and the Trinity. Mad Curry's vocalist was somewhat reminiscent of the then very popular Julie, although personally I would sooner compare her to Carol Grimes (of Delivery) and to the vocalist of Julian's Treatment. In addition two tracks from the only single, released before the album was made, are included. This is an obligatory item for all fans of old, European sounds from the turn of the decades. Highly recommended! -

Originally released (and recorded) only in South Africa, a great progressive album from 1974 and at the same time the solo debut of the keyboardist, originally from Great Britain, known in later years from records by Camel, Cockney Rebel, Kate Bush (the first three) and Budgie, among others. The album, once released by Vertigo (and now worth about 200 euros), combined the style of Refugee, Morgan and early Wakeman. Three long compositions based on all sorts of keyboard sounds (with a rhythm section, of course) and fortunately without tedious longueurs. This is top-shelf art rock! After arriving in Great Britain Mackay played on records by artists such as Baker Gurvitz Army, Colosseum II, Cockney Rebel, Kate Bush, Camel, Budgie and the Alan Parsons Project. For the first time on CD! Lodestone is a British band playing progressive rock with psychedelic influences, in the vein of Procol Harum, The Nice or the Moody Blues, and even The Beatles. Their music was dominated by organ and also a rich use of orchestra. The band was formed on the initiative of the producer Tony Atkins, and its line-up included musicians known mainly from the freakbeat scene. Unfortunately "Time Flies" was released only in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. -

A new, extended and remastered edition from the reliable Eclipse label of the only album by the cult British band. A fantastic, still slightly psychedelic, but already early-progressive and hugely underrated at the time LP (with clearly audible elements of classical music and jazz), recorded at the end of 1968, and released only in January 1970 by the Parlophone known to all, but which was then waiting for who knows what. Locomotive is, in short, a combination of the style of early Procol Harum with the less well-known, but also Birmingham-born, band Velvett Fogg, and also the band Second Hand from the period of their excellent album "Reality" - but with an occasional brass section. The album was characterised by quite short but concise, often interlinked and memorable compositions with dominant dark organ sounds and the unsettling, excellent vocals of Norman Haines, frequent changes of mood and also excellent brass arrangements performed by the cream of British jazz (Dick Heckstall-Smith, Henry Lowther, Chris Mercer). This is an absolutely obligatory item for every fan of old British rock playing from the end of the 60s in the 'late psych/early prog' style! As early as 1969 the leader Norman Haines received an offer to join the band of his mates from Earth (soon afterwards renamed Black Sabbath), but he refused, counting on a breakthrough with the Locomotive album. After the commercial flop and the break-up of the band in 1970, the keyboard player founded his own Norman Haines Band, directly a more progressive and somewhat harder continuation of Locomotive's achievements. On this CD, to the content of the full-length record as many as twelve valuable bonus tracks have been added, including seven recordings from Parlophone singles, four previously unreleased on CD tracks from the BBC - including brilliant covers of the group Spirit and Bob Dylan - both available on YouTube) and "Money Maker", never released on any format. An absolute MUST! -

Remastered edition of the excellent second album, released in 1972, by the Hungarian rock classics. This album, still in a progressive vein (the last with bassist Karoly Frenreisz, who right afterwards founded the hard rock Skorpio), holds up very well years later - also thanks to very good remastering. It must be remembered that (compared with the superbly pressed old vinyl) the old Hungarian CD version from 1992 was simply unlistenable! In addition four tracks from Hungarian singles and five pieces played by Locomotiv GT and contained on the once very popular LP "Raport z amerykańskiego festiwalu" (1973). A must! (JL) -

For the first time in the original cover! This is a very important and at the same time very good album - recorded in 1973 at the Olympic Studios in London and produced by the famous Jimmy Miller (The Rolling Stones, Traffic) - with a guest appearance - attention - by Jack Bruce (on harmonica - on one track)!!! They had something to boast about! The material on this record, released in 1974 by ABC Records (in the States and in the British Isles), is a blend of the second and third albums, that is, the band is still playing nicely, rock-oriented, still progressive, with few horns, but elements of 'funky-swinging' playing had already appeared which had a great influence on the third, Hungarian LP 'Bummm'. In addition three very rare recordings from the East German radio archive and - here is a surprise - two tracks from a Polish vinyl single from 1974 are included - including a rather unexpected cover of Tadeusz Woźniak's "Zegarmistrz światła"! A new, remastered and for years unavailable reissue of the only album, released by Philips in 1971, by the group Light Of Darkness. The band offered a very interesting and all in all original combination of heavy blues rock, early hard rock and elements of progressive rock. Although the group was formed by Scottish musicians active in Hamburg, their sound clearly refers to the British scene of the turn of the 60s and 70s. Echoes of Edgar Broughton Band and early Uriah Heep could be heard, but without simply copying either of those bands. A great virtue of the record was its raw energy. The band moved freely from heavy guitar riffs to more atmospheric, bluesy passages, enriched with organ, piano, flute and violin parts, as well as a characteristic, somewhat rough vocal. One could say that the musicians went more for spontaneity and atmosphere than for technical virtuosity. Special mention goes to the 10-minute Soul Francisco from the repertoire of the American folk musician Tony Joe White. The album will delight all lovers of heavy, bluesy playing with a distinct progressive bent. Highly recommended! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

The CD edition, awaited for at least 20 years, of the only LP by a very good Belgian progressive group playing early, still slightly psychedelic prog rock (with acoustic interludes) in the style of Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, Focus, Traffic and Cressida. The whole began with an almost 10-minute piece with nice flute and guitar parts, and ended with an 18-minute, multi-threaded suite. The original vinyl (worth 500 euros) was released by the label Triangle - known for the LP Irish Coffee. This is a real treat for fans of playing from 1969-70! Highly recommended! -

A remastered, great-sounding reissue, unavailable for many years, of the only album, released in February 1973, by a forgotten Swiss band. The band impressed with a high standard of performance and maturity of composition, and at the same time skilfully and variously combined a heavy, organ-and-guitar sound with distinctly British roots with melodic rock. On the one hand you can hear here the influences of Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Pink Floyd and Van Der Graaf Generator, but also of French progressive bands such as Ange and Triangle. You listen to the record in one breath, because (except for one 3-minute musical joke) it was filled with 'nothing but the dense stuff'! I will only add that on the second part of the original vinyl there was a 20-minute, progressive suite! How I adore this album! Released in 1973 by a small Swedish label, the album contained genuinely exquisite organ-and-guitar INSTRUMENTAL progressive rock, played with passion yet in a relaxed way, reminiscent of a synthesis of Procol Harum, Atomic Rooster and the more subdued ELP, with a pinch of rock Santana from the period of the earliest records. The third track on the record is one of the best progressive numbers I have heard in my life! Fans of Scandinavian rock will certainly be pleased by the comparisons with Flasket Brinner, Kebnekeise and very early Bo Hansson. Note! The drummer Rune Carlsson played in Krzysztof Komeda's band in 1962! Very good sound and excellent production! An absolute must! -

There are many experiments with sound here (e.g. electronic drums), although there is as much pure rock here as on the previous two albums, and it is certainly more psychedelic than the 'second'. On the other hand, after a few listens the record turns out to be first-rate! The second CD contains, among others, tracks from singles, alternative versions of three tracks, and three tracks recorded for the BBC! Highly recommended! -

Remastered and expanded British edition! I love this record! A decidedly progressive album - perhaps at times a little difficult, but rewarding your patience after just a few listens! Brown, characterised by an incredible, diabolical voice, created with the band something like a (sometimes very) twisted suite - with plenty of juicy, progressive playing (guitars, organ) in the style of old Arthur Brown, King Crimson, rock Zappa, Nicholas Greenwood and early Atomic Rooster - and that is surely a good recommendation. Recently the CD Kingdom Come - Kingdom Come (1972) was also released. One more thing: in two tracks there is unconventional editing, so it may seem that the CD is faulty, but that is how Brown devised it and how it was recorded - also on the old vinyl! An absolute must! -

The album originally came out in 1976 on Bacillus/Bellaphon as a double LP. Without a doubt it is an excellent complement to the classic "Two For The Show" from 1978, as very few tracks are duplicated!
