SPIRIT - SPIRIT - Feedback - UK Eastworld Edition - LISTEN - OSTATNIE SZTUKIprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
"Feedback" came out in March 1972 and is probably the most controversial album in Spirit's entire discography. Not because it is particularly strange or experimental. Quite the opposite. It was the first album recorded after the departure of three key members of the band — Jay Ferguson, Mark Andes and Randy California. The album veered towards more down-to-earth American rock, at times even country-rock and classic guitar playing of the early 70s. The problem was that for many fans it no longer sounded like Spirit. The album is not a hidden masterpiece on the level of "Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus", but nor is it the catastrophe it has sometimes been made out to be. Had an entirely new band from Los Angeles recorded identical material in 1972, it would probably be remembered as a good, at times very interesting American rock album. As a Spirit record it remains rather a fascinating document of the break-up of a great band and an attempt to find a new path after losing almost all the key creators of its earlier sound.(JL) -

CD
SPRING - SPRING - Spring +3 - SWE Flawed Gems Remastered Expanded - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
The album by the group Spring, released in 1971, is top ten of the best (little-known) progressive albums from Great Britain! A combination of the moods of the King Crimson debut and Genesis's "Nursery Cryme". This edition sounds slightly better than the classic Repertoire Records CD and contains a 6-page booklet, reproducing the original vinyl sleeve, which folds out "into three". Years later drummer Pique Withers found fame and fortune in Dire Straits (the first four albums), while vocalist Pat Moran became an esteemed producer. The CD contains the same three (great) bonus tracks as on other, earlier versions. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -

SPRING - SPRING - Spring +1 - EU Expanded Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 100,00 PLN / 25,00 EUR
Sensational! The sole album by this English band contains beautiful, rather delicate music reminiscent somewhat of classic albums such as "In The Court Of The Crimson King" or "Nursery Cryme". Lots of Mellotron, a distinctive vocal, great arrangements, a juicy sound. One previously unreleased bonus track. New, sealed. -

STACKRIDGE - STACKRIDGE - Radio Sessions 1971-1973 - UK Angel Air Editionprice: 65,00 PLN / 16,25 EUR
Nice and, what is more, very good quality, unreleased, radio material recorded during two sessions for the BBC. Fans of slightly progressive folk should be very pleased. Recommended (K) -

STACKRIDGE - STACKRIDGE - Stackridge +4 - UK Esoteric Expanded Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
Released in 1971 by MCA, the debut album by a respected and once popular British band, directly echoing late pop-psychedelia and folk rock of the late 60s, with a pinch of early progressive rock. In fact it is hard to define the band's style unambiguously. The music is not very complicated, but the tracks are richly arranged - with very clear influences of late The Beatles, as well as The Moody Blues, but also the Incredible String Band, Simon & Garfunkel and even a bit of Zappa... All in all it is a very nice record. 2023 reissue, with bonus tracks in the form of one B-side of a single and three recordings from John Peel's programme on the BBC, from 21 September 1971. Highly recommended! (JL) -

STARK NAKED - STARK NAKED - Stark Naked - EU Eclipse Remastered Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
A remastered and great-sounding Eclipse edition of the only album, released in 1971, by an American band playing distinctive, dark, somewhat heavy rock with psychedelic touches. This is decidedly European playing, which, combined with just six tracks (including two lasting 9 and 11 minutes), should give fans of the progressive genre plenty to think about! Highly recommended! -

The first three albums by the cult and one of the three most popular (alongside Fairport Convention and Pentangle) British folk-rock bands of the 70s. The first, brilliant album "Hark! The Village Wait" (1970) is by itself worth the price! Highly recommended! (JL) -

STILL LIFE - STILL LIFE - Still Life - GER Repertoire Remastered Card Sleeve Limited Edition - LISTENprice: 80,00 PLN / 20,00 EUR
A completely forgotten British hard-progressive band with a single album, released by Vertigo in 1971, referencing the style of early Beggars Opera and Uriah Heep (without guitar) - that is, lots of Hammond, characteristic vocal harmonies, extended tracks of 6-7 minutes. Remastered Repertoire version, in mini LP form, limited to 3000 copies. Highly recommended! (JL) -

STONEHOUSE (see also: Asgard) - STONEHOUSE - Stonehouse Creek - EU Ethelion Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
Another excellent, FIRST-EVER reissue from the Ethelion label - of an album practically forgotten by the world (the cover certainly did not help it, though it was signed by Keef, known from the debut of Black Sabbath and the record by the band Spring...) - until now! Yes, nobody had previously reissued this excellent and very rare title on vinyl. Released at the beginning of 1971 by RCA Victor (and now worth 400-500 euros), the Britons' only, but superb, LP contained heavy, very thoroughbred playing (with slight elements of progression) in the traditional British style, resembling somewhat the debut of Budgie, the records of May Blitz, the debut of Free and Leaf Hound. After a year two of the musicians ended up in the much gentler, though charming Asgard. Very clean, clear sound. A must! Condition: NEW, but unsealed. -

STONEHOUSE (see also: Asgard) - STONEHOUSE - Stonehouse Creek - EU Once Again Limited Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A new, remastered edition of the great, though practically forgotten by the world, only album by a British band. Released at the beginning of 1971 by RCA Victor (and worth 400-500 euros on vinyl today), the Brits' only, but splendid, LP contained heavy, very thoroughbred playing (with light elements of blues and prog rock) in the traditional British style, recalling a little the debut of Budgie, May Blitz records, the debut of Free and Leaf Hound. Devoid of any promotion (and probably a mere, unscrupulous tax write-off for the record label), the record sank without trace on the market - like hundreds of other titles released by major labels at the turn of the 60s and 70s. The band certainly gained no popularity from the dreadful sleeve, which looked as if splattered with mud. It is hard to believe that it was signed by the man known from the debut of Black Sabbath and records by the groups Spring, Indian Summer, Affinity, Colosseum - Keef... After a few months, two Stonehouse musicians formed the gentler and more progressive band Asgard. A MUST! Condition: new, sealed. (JL) -

STRAWBERRY PATH (see also: Flied Egg) - STRAWBERRY PATH - When The Raven Come To The Earth - FRA Absinthe Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
A limited, gatefold absolute classic (recorded in March 1971) of Japanese heavy progressive playing in the style of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Soon afterwards the band changed its name to Flied Egg and recorded two superb albums in a similar style (though at times more art-rock) in the vein of Deep Purple/Uriah Heep. Excellent sound quality! Highly recommended! New, sealed. -
CD
SUGARLOAF - SUGARLOAF - Sugarloaf / Spaceship Earth (1970-1971) - UK BGO Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 75,00 PLN / 18,75 EUR
An American band with a strong, psychedelic sound based on Hammond organ, with slight influences of blues and classical music. The first record (from 1970) is simply excellent - melodic, very intense, heavy, a bit Doors-like (with elements of Vanilla Fudge, Iron Butterfly and early British progression) and decidedly catchy - simply top-shelf rock classics. What is more, the track "Green-Eyed Lady" is a rock classic known forever! The second album (1971) is slightly weaker, generally gentler, but still with plenty of nice moments and generally very decent. Remastered edition from the label BGO. Highly recommended! -

SUNDAY (see also: Jody Grind) - SUNDAY - Sunday - SWE Flawed Gems Remastered - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Made in 1971 by German Bellaphon (like the albums by the groups Diabolus, Little Big Horn and Crazy Label, which were not released in the British Isles), the only, but great, album by a British trio (with the former drummer of the group Jody Grind), playing fairly heavyish, but sophisticated progressive rock (with Hammond organ) in the style of Atomic Rooster, Argent, Procol Harum, Aardvark, and even early Pink Floyd. This is an absolute treat for all lovers of old, classic playing from the very beginning of the 70s! This material was released in a dreadful form (on a very crackly and dull CD) in the mid-90s; fortunately the present edition sounds perfect! A must! -

SUNDAY FUNNIES - SUNDAY FUNNIES - Sunday Funnies - SWE Flawed Gems Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
On CD for the first time! The debut and very underrated album by this American, progressive formation is usually wrongly described as soul rock and for that reason almost completely ignored by lovers of our favourite genre. A big mistake, because 80% of the music on this great album is very British in mood progressive rock based on the juicy and ubiquitous sound of Hammond organ and without a doubt modelled on the work of early Procol Harum! Also importantly, the band's leader (one Kosinski) could genuinely compose catchy and at the same time almost anthemic tracks - which of course added great charm to the whole. In fact only the opening hard-soul-rock track and the gospel-style, rock ending departed from the progressive style. Both passages are quite nice. Everything between them, however, is top-class prog rock that many more popular formations would surely have liked to record! A MUST! -

SYRIUS - SYRIUS - Syrius (1st Album) +6 - AUT Enigmatic Remastered Expanded Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Remastered edition (from Enigmatic) of the excellent debut album by a Hungarian jazz-prog-rock formation - recorded and originally released (1971) in Australia (on the label Spin - in the original, silver cover with a black logo), and only a year later in Hungary, as "Devil's Masquerade". This is fantastic, progressive playing with strong jazz influences - no worse than the work of Colosseum, Blodwyn Pig or Chicago Transit Authority - not to mention lesser-known groups such as Heaven, Hannibal, Samurai or Walrus. The band could excellently keep a balance between genres (often even brushing against heavy rock...) and to tell the truth, with the possible exception of the Czech Flamengo (LP "Kure v Hodinkach" from 1972), I do not recall better jazz-rock playing from the Eastern Bloc - this album is practically beyond competition! Unlike the old, mercilessly dull version, the new, 80-minute CD sounds excellent, very juicy, although some tape hiss remains. In addition fantastic recordings (mainly covers of well-known compositions - please look at the titles) made during the same Australian session are included. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -

CD
TANGERINE DREAM - TANGERINE DREAM - Alpha Centauri - UK Esoteric Reactive Remastered Expanded - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
Remastered and beautifully presented British edition of the second album in the discography, recorded in an already changed (compared with the debut) line-up. It is still not electronic music, but rather more experimental krautrock. This British edition contains both sides of the sensational, indeed legendary, single Ultima Thule (Part 1/Part 2). It is progressive dynamite (guitar/mellotron/dense rhythm section) à la the best moments on the LP 2066 & Then! The vinyl single is worth about 150 euros! That number alone is worth the price of the CD... Plus the 8-minute Oszillator Planet Concert, recorded live in 1971 in Austria. Recommended.
