Released in 1969 by Capitol, the group's debut album is for us an incredible sensation and another reason that there is still plenty of excellent, top-shelf old music left to discover! This relatively (still) unknown album is a sophisticated and catchy combination of early prog rock, late rock psychedelia, blues and ambitious baroque pop. Procol Harum, The Beatles, Andwella's Dream, early Traffic, Cream - these are the names to which the music of this underrated formation can be compared. Great sound! AN ABSOLUTE MUST! -

This excellent album, released in spring 1969, was produced by Jimi Hendrix! More importantly, the brilliant guitarist appeared on as many as nine tracks, where he either played solo parts or embellished them in his own way. But even without Hendrix's participation it would be a great psychedelic album (sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier...), combining nice, catchy melodies with professional performance - as befitted 1969. The six-minute, almost epic "Mr. Guy Fawkes", meanwhile, is one of the best psychedelic tracks I have heard in my life! I find it a little hard to understand how such good material went almost completely unnoticed! In addition, two very rare tracks from the debut single are included, as well as 33 minutes of archive live material (of heavily bootleg quality) recorded in January 1969 in Germany. In any case, fans of Tomorrow, Pretty Things, Grapefruit (from the debut period) and of course the Jimi Hendrix Experience cannot properly function without this record! Excellent sound quality! A MUST! -

A six-disc box set containing all the recordings of the cult American band. The albums "Electric Prunes" and "Underground" from 1967 and "Mass In F Minor" from 1968 are included here in both stereo and mono versions (the third of them for the first time on CD as mono). The rest are "Release Of An Oath" from 1968 and "Just Good Old Rock And Roll" from 1969. The fifth CD contains single tracks and alternative versions of recordings, and the last disc is taken up by: the live "Stockholm 67" (45 minutes from 14 December 1967, from the archives of Swedish radio, with very good sound quality and superb playing by the band) and four demo tracks. The whole thing in a rigid box, with a booklet containing an extensive history of the band by Gray Newell, including detailed recollections of the original vocalist James Lowe and a key member of the band's later incarnation, Richard Whetstone. A four-record, British box set from Demon containing the catalogue album and three records with material previously published only on rare, expensive vinyl from the Tenth Planet label, from 1965-1969. Recorded in spring/summer 1968, but released only at the end of 1969, the LP "Introspection" (produced by Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones) is one of the most important achievements of British psychedelia. The album belongs in the same league as records kept in a similar vein, such as The Zombies' "Odessey And Oracle", Small Faces' "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake", The Who's "Sell Out", or the sole album by the band Tomorrow. Afterwards the band transformed into Tucky Buzzard and recorded at least three great (and two weaker) albums! A must! (JL) -

The first time on CD in its full version, together with the excellent track "Apache 69" (which closes the vinyl version - for some reason never released on CD until now) - taken from The Shadows' repertoire! The Britons' second album brought them somewhat closer to the progressive stream - especially in two tracks lasting 9 and 7 minutes respectively. In 1970 the musicians changed their name to Big Sleep and under that banner, in 1970, recorded a single released only in Spain with a new version of "Largo" (an adaptation of Handel's piece from the debut), and that very version has been added to this edition! In addition, the CD has been expanded with the B-side of the American single, featuring the excellent track "Q III". In 1970 the Big Sleep musicians took part in the recording of an album by Ancient Grease, and in 1971 the great, though demanding several listens, LP "Bluebell Wood" saw the light of day. After the split the individual musicians went on to join, among others, Wild Turkey, Gentle Giant and Man. A MUST! -

You can still hear the influence of psychedelia and even blues, but this is already folk-rock. The superb Meet On The Ledge and Fotheringay. In their native Great Britain it is this album that is regarded as the group's peak achievement! There is something in that! 3 bonus tracks. A must! -

Family is one of the most important British progressive formations of the turn of the 60s and 70s, with the charismatic vocalist Roger Chapman (and bassist Rick Grech, later known from Blind Faith and Traffic). Unfortunately, very popular and esteemed in the British Isles (at the start of their career the Beatles went to their concerts!) - they never broke through in the States (not to mention Poland). This superb, limited double vinyl from the label Merida contains 26 tracks (lasting 105 minutes) from the BBC radio archives - recorded over the course of one year - after the release of the debut album and before the release of the 'third'. The double LP contains seven tracks unreleased on CD: the studio "Hometown" and "Bring It On Home" and five live tracks (of average quality, but superbly played) from November 1968. The whole thing sounds excellent (with the exception of the aforementioned side 4), and compared with the CDs several tracks not only sound better, but are not faded. The pressing is excellent, very clean, with great dynamics. The very attractive, stylish, gatefold cardboard sleeve (in the American style) corresponds perfectly with the music. The record has long been out of print! A must! -

Remastered British edition, expanded with eight extra tracks, of the first album by a psych-progressive group formed by Noel Redding (then bassist of the Jimi Hendrix Experience), with Jim Leverton (Caravan) on bass. Really nice, varied and slightly 'smoky' playing, somewhat reminiscent of early Family and Traffic. In fact, flautist Chris Wood appeared as a guest on this great and, all in all, underrated album! Highly recommended! -

The only, very good album by an American band combining heavy psychedelic rock with blues and sometimes a pinch of soul (e.g. female backing vocals). The second side of the LP is filled with a nice, 20-minute suite, and the track "Take Me Home" was later covered by the Japanese band Speed Glue & Shinki. A 2025 edition. Recommended! (JL)
