Limited to 500 copies, an 80-minute CD containing a superb, as much as... 50-minute, perfectly sounding version of the suite "Eruption" (in my opinion much better than in the studio), recorded in autumn 1971 at a concert in Rotterdam, and two tracks from the band's concert in Texel. The sound quality of the last two tracks is almost ideal and, what is more, the publisher of the CD slightly corrected the too-slow speed of the source material. This is a real treat for prog rock fans! A must! (JL) -

Without a doubt it is top ten of European prog-rock! It includes "Hocus Pocus" and the 22-minute suite "Eruption". Dutch CD with a 2020 remaster. A must! -

A double compilation containing the albums released by the Deram label ("Frijid Pink" and "Defrosted" - both from 1970) and single tracks from 1970-1971. The debut by the American band from Detroit was characterised by the sound of overdriven guitar, powerful drumming and occasional Hammond organ parts. It contains, among others, an excellent (and at the time quite a hit) and very intense cover of the classic "House Of The Rising Sun" (a revelation!), as well as plenty of thrilling material in the vein of The Amboy Dukes, MC5 and very early Led Zeppelin. "Defrosted" is somewhat more hard rock (though less feisty than the debut), contains slightly longer tracks and was recorded without organ. A must! (JL) -

This brilliant, fan-club, Spanish CD contains very early, fantastic material recorded for BBC radio/TV between early winter 1970 and spring 1971 - that is, at a time when the band was only becoming the greatest (alongside Pink Floyd) progressive institution. This 80-minute disc, released in a run of 500 copies, brings together recordings of three sessions - two of them with guitarist Anthony Phillips and drummer John Mayhew. All eleven tracks have survived in perfect sound quality. The first session consists of four instrumental, beautiful pieces composed for a television film, the second contains, among others, three unreleased, ballad-progressive compositions, and the third (recorded already in the classic line-up with Collins and Hackett) contains, among others, an early version of 'The Musical Box' that is 80 seconds longer. In addition three bonus tracks are included - among them the only recorded version of the completely unknown track "The Light" and one of two or three live performances of the dynamic, but never officially released "Going Out To Get You". Both recordings had appeared on classic bootlegs, but now they sound slightly better. The BBC sessions were to be released officially in 1998 (a few test copies even came out), but in the end the project was halted by Tony Banks. An absolute must! (JL) -

Released in 1971 by BASF, a wonderful debut album by a German band inspired by the work of Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Amon Dull II and Popol Vuh (Gila's leader later worked with that group), stylistically resembling a very long version of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" divided into six parts! A very spacious, somewhat cosmic sound, very few (British) vocals, ubiquitous guitars, excellent production and great, natural sound. This is one of the ten best albums from Germany! A must! -

A new, remastered edition of the only, but truly excellent, album by a British trio, recorded at the famous EMI studios on Abbey Road and released in 1971. Originally issued on the B&C label, the LP contained ambitiously arranged, breathy hard-progressive music, somewhat reminiscent of a blend of T2, Master's Apprentices and the debut of Hard Meat. This still underrated album captivates with its spacious sound and warm, though decidedly rocking, atmosphere. An absolute must! (JL) -

What an excellent album! The American trio Glass Harp played in 1970-1972 very British, richly arranged (flute, occasional strings, frequent changes of mood), guitar-driven, heavyish rock - somewhat resembling a very richly arranged Wishbone Ash. The excellent guitarist Phil Keaggy has always been regarded as one of the best guitarists in the States! Catchy melodies, rich arrangements and at least 4 tracks lasting 6-8 minutes each. In addition a nearly 30-minute, heavily improvised version of the classic "Can You See Me" recorded at New York's Carnegie Hall! A MUST!
