FRIJID PINK - Deram Recordings 1970-1971 (2CD) - UK Esoteric Remastered Digipack Edition - LISTEN

A double compilation containing the albums released by the Deram label ("Frijid Pink" and "Defrosted" - both from 1970) and single tracks from 1970-1971. The debut by the American band from Detroit was characterised by the sound of overdriven guitar, powerful drumming and occasional Hammond organ parts. It contains, among others, an excellent (and at the time quite a hit) and very intense cover of the classic "House Of The Rising Sun" (a revelation!), as well as plenty of thrilling material in the vein of The Amboy Dukes, MC5 and very early Led Zeppelin. "Defrosted" is somewhat more hard rock (though less feisty than the debut), contains slightly longer tracks and was recorded without organ. A must! (JL)
