PROCOL HARUM - PROCOL HARUM - Home +1 - UK Esoteric Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
In my opinion this fourth record, released in 1970, is one of the two or three best titles in the band's discography. Dark, gloomy and very progressive... Remastered edition from the British label Esoteric. A must! -

QUATERMASS (see also: Hard Stuff / Episode Six) - QUATERMASS - Quatermass +4 (CD+DVD) - UK Esoteric Remastered Expanded Digipack - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
Expanded British edition of the only album by a great, unfortunately somewhat forgotten, British formation playing eclectic prog rock in the style of The Nice, Egg and Atomic Rooster (without guitar, but you hardly notice...) based on the interplay of heavy Hammond organ and the rhythm section. In addition the record includes several almost hard rock tracks, including the original version of the track "Black Sheep Of The Family" - known from the debut of the group Rainbow. Among the bonus tracks are two tracks from a single, one live recording and the unreleased "Afraid Not". The second disc is a DVD audio with the album in a Surround version. Highly recommended! QUILL - QUILL - Quill - EU Music On Vinyl PINK VINYL Limited Press - LISTENprice: 155,00 PLN / 38,75 EUR
Released by the Cotillion label in 1970, the only, but truly very good, album by a somewhat forgotten American band contains intense and superbly produced playing with the dominant sounds of a very nice, edgy guitar, organ and occasional horns, all served against a superbly and densely playing rhythm section. Plenty of intense, meaty and almost progressive playing, though with still perceptible influences of psychedelia (including the excellent, balladic "Yellow Butterfly") and jazz - just as it was played in 1970... Reissue limited to 750 copies from 2024, in a gatefold sleeve, on pink vinyl. Highly recommended! (K) -

QUINTESSENCE - QUINTESSENCE - Dive Deep - AUS Progressive Line Remastered Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Quintessence is a great British band fascinated by Indian music and culture. A ubiquitous, mystical mood reigns on the records - although there is no lack of sharp, guitar-driven rock and progressive, dynamic playing. If you know and like the first East Of Eden record, appreciate Hendrix, and somehow stomach Hare Krishna - you will be delighted. "Dive Deep" is the third and last album recorded for Island. Remastered 2003 reissue. (JL) -

RAINBOW BAND (see also: Midnight Sun) - RAINBOW BAND - Rainbow Band - AUS Progressive Line Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
A Danish band playing great, progressive, jazzy music in the vein of If, Blodwyn Pig and Heaven. On the one hand elements of jazz (saxophones), on the other sharp guitar solos. Attention! The material under the name Rainbow Band was recorded as early as 1970, while a year later - after a change of name (and vocalist) - the band, now under the name Midnight Sun, played the whole thing again! Highly recommended. (JL) -
CD
RANDALL, ELLIOTT - ELLIOTT RANDALL - Randall's Island - EU Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Released in 1970 by Polydor, the first solo album by an American guitarist known for collaborating with many leading artists. On his debut album he offered an excellent mixture of progressive rock, jazz, blues and folk. In fact it is hard to define the style of this album unambiguously. We have here almost the best of 1970... Nice, bluesy guitar parts, jazzy brass interludes, subtle flute parts and an almost psychedelic mood. In a word, it is a very good album that will certainly please all fans of the genre. In the late 70s Elliot Randall was a session musician on, among others, records by Steely Dan and Yoko Ono, and also took part in recording the soundtrack to the cult film Blues Brothers. Recommended! -

RARE EARTH - RARE EARTH - Get Ready / Ecology (1969-70) - US Lake Eerie Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
The second and third, that is, the best albums by the group, on a single CD. Solid, gently swaying rhythms, plenty of Hammond, quite sharp guitars, plenty of covers (including a track by Savoy Brown) - among them a brilliant 21-minute cover of "Get Ready" by The Temptations. Very underrated albums in Poland and, all in all, an underrated group! A must! (JL) -

RECREATION - RECREATION - Recreation - GER Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 100,00 PLN / 25,00 EUR
A little-known Belgian band with two records to its name. Heavy Hammonds, bass and drums dominate. The debut is reminiscent somewhat of the work of Nice and Rare Bird, combined with Brian Auger's Trinity. 2016 German reissue. -

RECREATION - RECREATION - Recreation / Music Or Not Music (1970-72) - AUS Progressive Line Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
A little-known Belgian band with two records to its name. Heavy Hammond, bass, drums and (on the "second") guitar dominate. The debut is somewhat reminiscent of the work of The Nice and Rare Bird combined with Brian Auger's Trinity - though it could be more varied. The second album, however, is stunning! The short tracks form an eclectic, 40-minute suite. Somewhat "Zappa-like" progression in full measure - plenty of sound effects, sudden changes of style and rhythm. Recommended! -

RENAISSANCE - RENAISSANCE - Illusion - EU Repertoire Edition - LISTENprice: 65,00 PLN / 16,25 EUR
The second album by this excellent band. Decidedly progressive material referring to the music of the Middle Ages, the Baroque, classical jazz and rock. In the last, longest track Don Shinn played keyboards - (un)known from the brilliant album "Takes A Trip" (1969). Highly recommended! -

CD
ROCK ISLAND (see also: Rain) - ROCK ISLAND - Rock Island - US Gear Fab Edition - LAST COPYprice: 100,00 PLN / 25,00 EUR
A very good (and at moments downright sensational), unfortunately only album by an American formation playing heavy, guitar-driven rock with organ - sometimes more psychedelic, sometimes brushing against blues, folk or prog. Some compare this very good (from start to finish) record to a 'gentler Euclid' and there is probably a lot of truth in that! Two years later the band (with a different bassist) changed its name to Rain and recorded an excellent album in the style of the late The Zombies. Highly recommended! (JL)
