A new, remastered, limited European edition of the sensational debut, recorded in the summer of 1969 and released by Philips in February 1970, by a progressive Danish band referencing the style of the then most rock (with dominant electric guitar and Hammond organ) achievements of Procol Harum, Rare Bird, The Nice and late The Beatles. This record, full of dynamics, catchy melody and truly exquisite, contains only two extended suites (composed for a ballet) and it must be admitted that outside Britain nobody at the turn of 1969-1970 played this kind of music so professionally! It is one of my most favourite progressive records 'ever'! The album 'Green Man', released in 1971, was also excellent, but I value the debut a little more... Additionally 2 tracks from a single from 1970 are added to the disc - including 'Over The Fields', never released on CD, probably the heaviest in the band's career! The sound is slightly better than on earlier editions and simply beats hands down the dull and lifeless versions from YouTube! In addition the CD contains several rare photos of the band. Many instrumental parts - especially Hammonds and guitars! A wonderful 12-minute version of "All Along The Watchtower" and several other gems, such as "Night Flight" or "Three Sisters". Without a doubt it is one of the best albums ever released by the label Vertigo! Remastered, German edition from the label Repertoire, from 2010, in a traditional jewel case and without bonus tracks. A must! -

This 1970 album by the Chilean group Aguaturbia is one of the most uncompromising releases of South American psychedelic rock. The record combines heavy, blues-rock riffs with the psychedelic atmosphere of the late 60s, creating a sound that is sometimes compared to early hard rock in the style of Led Zeppelin. The album also became famous for its daring sleeve, which at the time of release caused a good deal of controversy in what was then conservative Chilean society. Today the record is considered cult. A 2024 reissue, new, sealed. -

The Alan Bown is one of the most underrated bands of the turn of the 60s and 70s. While the studio records (apart from the brilliant 1968 debut) are a little uneven, the radio sessions for the BBC show the band as one of the best on the British scene of the time! The first side of this limited, 58-minute LP is filled with original, psychedelic, melodic compositions (sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier...) played with the participation of an exquisite brass section. I draw particular attention to the sophisticated arrangement in "All Along The Watchtower" (it is precisely this version that inspired Hendrix!), and the heavy, guitar-riff-driven "Penny For Your Thoughts". In truth it is hard to single out one track or another here, because all the recordings are simply exquisite! In addition, it is worth noting the excellent vocalist Jess Roden - later in Bronco and (with Robbie Krieger and John Densmore of The Doors) in The Butts Band! In 1969 Roden was replaced by the quite good Robert Palmer (a huge pop star in the 80s), and then came Gordon Neville, sounding almost identical to RP. So the second side of the album was filled with rock of a more progressive (at times folk) flavour, and the last two tracks are a real treat for fans of playing in the vein of Colosseum or Mogul Thrash! All the recordings sound ideal! A must! NEW, SEALED. -

A fantastic album, among the best of French and European rock. You can hear the influence of Jethro Tull, Traffic and Family. Its subtle psychedelic-folk atmosphere (including plenty of flute) stands out, a counterweight to the prog-rock expression that dominates the record. Six bonus tracks. Highly recommended! -

Released at the start of 1970, the fourth in the discography, in my opinion a great album by the (then) heavy rock band led by guitarist Ted Nugent. Less psychedelia, but much more heavy, juicy playing (with organ) brushing at times against progressive rock. Three tracks run for 8-10 minutes. Highly recommended! (JL) -

Greatly improved compared with the old, crackly and hissy Spalax version (ripped from average quality vinyl) and expanded all in all with five tracks (including a great single from 1969), Swedish edition of the sensational album by a French psych-progressive formation whose members had worked a little earlier with Daevid Allen (before he founded Gong). The style of the LP "Ame Son" can be compared with the early recordings of Gong, as well as early Pink Floyd, Group 1850 and Soft Machine - with a pinch of Jethro Tull. This album, sung in both French and English, is simply superb, although it requires a few careful listens. I repeat: in sound this edition beats the old CD hands down! A MUST! (JL) -

Ana y Jaime is a group from Colombia that combines the simplicity of folk expression with the sound of the late 60s, when psychedelia and rock were beginning to seep into the music of Latin America. The record, made in 1970, presents music that is sparing in means but very distinctive. The basis is acoustic and electric guitars, often played rhythmically, with a light, pulsating backing. Above this appear vocals – calm, somewhat raw, delivered without an excess of ornament. In some tracks organ and subtle arrangements come in, which give the whole a more psychedelic shade. The individual recordings have different characters: from more committed, almost protest songs, to lighter, more melodic forms. The title track "Es largo el camino" stands out with a distinct, lightly overdriven guitar sound and an energy that brings the whole closer to garage rock. A 2005 edition. Only one copy! A great album (RELEASED IN 1970 IN THE CHANGED, AMERICAN COVER KNOWN FROM THE OLD VINYL ON THE MERCURY LABEL) recorded with the participation of Eyes Of Blue musicians (later Big Sleep). Lots of strong, guitar riffs; a heavy, intense sound - although the record does not lack calmer, ballad-like passages. On several tracks Gary Pickford-Hopkins (later known from Wild Turkey) sang as a guest. Highly recommended! (JL) -

Limited to 500 copies, a beautifully produced (gatefold, laminated sleeve with nice photos of the band) British black vinyl, containing recordings not previously released on LP by one of the best British (somewhat forgotten) rock bands active in the late 60s - resembling a more progressive blend of the styles of Led Zeppelin and Cream. This 55-minute record contains all five tracks from an excellent BBC radio recording session (in perfect quality) from October 1968, two finished tracks from June 1969 that did not fit on the classic album, and several studio recordings from the period before and after the album - including, among others, a great version of "Seven Lonely Streets" - known from Atomic Rooster's second album. The quality of almost all the recordings is ideal, only two tracks from 1968 can be described as very good. I repeat: none of these tracks appeared on the band's only album from 1969, while four recordings of poorer quality appeared in 1990 on the LP "Seven Lonely Streets". The guitarist John Cann later played on two classic albums by the already mentioned Atomic Rooster, and the bassist Mick Hawksworth founded the excellent Fuzzy Duck. An absolute must! (JL) -

A compilation of recordings by the Nigerian band The Apostles, from the early 70s, in the style of Afro-funk and soul. The music relies on a pulsating rhythm section, guitars with a lightly overdriven sound and multi-voice vocal parts, which give the whole a spirited, danceable character. The band skilfully combines elements of local tradition with influences of rhythm and blues and funk. A 2016 reissue. Only one copy! New, sealed. -

A new, limited, European edition of the only album by a British band founded by the former leader and guitarist of Blonde On Blonde (on the debut LP "Contrasts"). Released in 1970 by RCA Victor, a truly excellent, slightly jazzy, progressive record that was reminiscent of the earliest recordings of East Of Eden, Colosseum, Blodwyn Pig, If and Quintessence. Complex arrangements, plenty of instrumental parts (saxophones, flute, and so on), catchy melodic themes, and finally the great, 25-minute suite filling the second side of the vinyl. Without a doubt the canon of British progressive rock. Excellent, clean sound! AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL)
