A very interesting release containing, among others, six rare pre-debut tracks (still decidedly beat), recorded as Sky Saxon And The Soul Rockers and Sky Saxon And The Electra Fires, in 1963-64. The rest of the CD is filled with seven, by now decidedly heavier tracks, at moments striking the listener with almost hard rock energy, made after the last record. As a bonus, four live recordings from 1969 are also included - of good, but unfortunately not perfect, quality. Definitely recommended! (K) -

A great, third album by the cult American band. In the States it is an absolute rock classic! Released in 1970, the album was a return to high form, after the somewhat uneven LP "Noah". Juicy, rock, guitar-driven playing with organ and a raspy voice - from distinctive, riffing (sometimes bluesy) rock, through a rock or acoustic ballad, right up to an excellent, improvised, live version of "River Deep Mountain High". An Argentine edition in a digipak. Recommended! -

FIRST TIME ON CD! A long-awaited by die-hard fans, great-sounding reissue from the Eclipse label of the only album, released in 1970, by a cult, American jazz-rock band with slightly soul and funk inclinations. Personally I am not fond (to put it delicately) of funk from the late 70s and after..., but early, funky playing circa 1969-1971 is excellent! I have known and owned The Seven's only and completely forgotten record for many years and consider it one of the nicest and most convincing titles inspired by the work of Blood Sweat & Tears and Chicago Transit Authority. The musicians of The Seven played with somewhat more ease, but with no less fire and dynamism - especially in the guitar parts! Probably if the LP had come out on, say, CBS/Columbia (rather than the local label Thunderbird), we would be dealing with another jazz-rock star! Highly recommended! (JL) -

A rock record from Indonesia! What is more, the opening, decidedly progressive (overdriven guitar, Hammonds, flute) track, sung in English, lasts as long as 9 minutes! Recorded in January 1970, the band's only album was also filled with six tracks (two of them in English) on the border of psychedelic rock, ballad and the previously mentioned, at moments quite heavy prog rock. Very nice playing with sensational passages (e.g. the six-minute "Evil War", or the ballad-heavy-rock "Insan")! This is not a curiosity from the end of the world, but solid, classic rock! I would very much like such an album to have been made in Poland... American reissue from the label Outer Battery Records. Highly recommended! -

A solo album from 1970 by the American vocalist and guitarist Bob Smith, recorded with the participation of, among others, Don Preston, playing Mellotron and synthesizer - known from playing in Frank Zappa's Mothers Of Invention. Musically it is very nice, richly arranged, American psychedelic rock with quite sharp - at times almost heavy rock - playing from the leader, interesting entries of flute and Mellotron and occasional, but very distinct, violin parts. The album has a somewhat garage sound which in my opinion suits this music perfectly and only adds to the mood... A very good record that can certainly be counted among the classics (though quite broad) of American psychedelic-garage rock! The original, double vinyl once came out on the Kent label with an enclosed poster and is today a much sought-after rarity worth 0. 2013 reissue, in a rigid gatefold sleeve, sealed. -

On the other hand, among many collectors there is an absolute cult around this record - usually named as one of the most important achievements of the progressive genre!
