The Alan Bown is one of the most underrated bands of the turn of the 60s and 70s. While the studio records (apart from the brilliant 1968 debut) are a little uneven, the radio sessions for the BBC show the band as one of the best on the British scene of the time! The first side of this limited, 58-minute LP is filled with original, psychedelic, melodic compositions (sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier...) played with the participation of an exquisite brass section. I draw particular attention to the sophisticated arrangement in "All Along The Watchtower" (it is precisely this version that inspired Hendrix!), and the heavy, guitar-riff-driven "Penny For Your Thoughts". In truth it is hard to single out one track or another here, because all the recordings are simply exquisite! In addition, it is worth noting the excellent vocalist Jess Roden - later in Bronco and (with Robbie Krieger and John Densmore of The Doors) in The Butts Band! In 1969 Roden was replaced by the quite good Robert Palmer (a huge pop star in the 80s), and then came Gordon Neville, sounding almost identical to RP. So the second side of the album was filled with rock of a more progressive (at times folk) flavour, and the last two tracks are a real treat for fans of playing in the vein of Colosseum or Mogul Thrash! All the recordings sound ideal! A must! NEW, SEALED. -

A European version, released in an attractive, laminated sleeve and decidedly improved sonically (sounding much clearer and more dynamic than, for example, the flat edition from the Acme label), of the sole album, released at the end of 1969, by a sensational British progressive band! Beautiful, catchy melodies based on vocal parts full of reflection, emotion and fire, ubiquitous Hammonds and sophisticated, decidedly psychedelic and very extended guitar entries. The whole sounds a bit like a much more progressive, more serious The Doors combined with early Van der Graaf Generator... Two tracks last 10-12 minutes each, the rest 4-7. In addition, at the end of each side both recordings from the rare, excellent single released at the same time as the album have been added. This reissue closely resembles in appearance the British original, worth over 1000 euros! An absolute MUST! NEW, SEALED. (JL) -

Gordon Beck was an English pianist and composer who began performing professionally in 1960. After his death in 2011 as many as 26 albums were made available. One of them contains two sessions by his quartet, from 1968, featuring the American vocalist Joy Marshall. Besides the leader, the band consisted of: John McLaughlin - guitar, Jeff Clyne - bass and Tony Oxley - drums. As a bonus, three tracks from an April 1966 session have been included, during which Marshall also sang with Beck's trio. -

Released in a beautiful, gatefold, laminated sleeve (inside which are several nice photos of the band), a single European hour-long vinyl, LIMITED TO 500 COPIES, containing a concert from Copenhagen, from April 1971 (47 minutes). Among the tracks is an early version of the classic "Into The Void", with the original lyrics. Unlike several recordings from 1970, there is not a single great-sounding Sabbath concert from 1971, but Copenhagen undoubtedly sounds best! The sound quality is really good! Not perfect, but for a 1971 'audience recording' - you cannot complain! A much worse-sounding and very slowed-down version circulates on the internet! This one is much better and with corrected speed! At the end of the record a live, 11-minute "Wicked World" has been added - also from Copenhagen, but from December 1970. The 180-gram black vinyl is perfectly pressed! Highly recommended! NEW, not shrink-wrapped. (JL) -

A limited, very good-sounding (much better than most of the old versions) edition of the great third album, released in March 1969, by the cult American heavy rock band. This album is important in that while the first part of the record is very nice, almost Quicksilver-like, the whole second side, recorded still as a trio, was composed (and played) by the brilliant guitarist Randy Holden - known to die-hard fans of Sabbath/Hendrix-style guitar playing from the excellent LP "Population II" (1970)! I confess this is my favourite Blue Cheer album, and Holden's two longer tracks, lasting 14 minutes together, are almost the world championship of slightly bluesy, psychedelic playing! Released in early 1969, a superb, at times quite wild (though usually melodic) British psychedelic LP inspired by The Beatles and Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett. Bobak, Jons, Malone are a trio of three producers/sound engineers working at the London studio of the Morgan Blue Town record label. At the same time as this album, an equally unpopular LP by the band Pussy was released! The original "Motherlight" vinyl is worth nearly 2000 pounds! 2017 reissue. A MUST! (JL) -

Limited to 500 copies, a vinyl released in a tasteful gatefold sleeve, containing an excellent-sounding hour-long concert from Birmingham, from December 1979. It was the band's first show with guitarist John Thomas in the line-up - half a year before the LP "Power Supply". I draw your attention to the very interesting setlist, including "Can't Get Up In The Morning", not released on any record, and also a unique, 8-minute medley "In For The Kill/Rape Of The Locks/Guts". It was a radio broadcast, so the whole thing (after noise reduction and mastering) sounds almost ideal! A must! -

Released in 1974, the brilliant fourth album - probably the heaviest title in the band's discography. The album includes the great title track, "Crash Course In Brain Surgery", released on the debut single (back in 1971), the 10-minute "Zoom Club" rolling along like a steamroller, "Hammer And Tongs", evidently modelled on "Dazed And Confused", and the hard-progressive "Living On Your Own". In addition the unique single version of "Zoom Club" and three tracks in new versions. A MUST! -

Mike Cotton is a British trumpeter who began with traditional jazz, only to later introduce elements of pop, beat and rhythm & blues into it. His band included, among others, the keyboard player Dave Rowberry (who left in 1965 to replace Alan Price in the Animals) and the bassist Jim Rodford (later, with his cousin Rod Argent, founder of Argent, who also played in The Kinks and the Zombies). In 1969 The Mike Cotton Sound turned into Satisfaction. The first CD reissue, enriched with single and live tracks. Mike Cotton collaborated fully on this edition, supplying quotes for the notes, as well as rare photos and press cuttings. (MU) -

CD OUT OF PRINT! This is the first professional group of 'Fast' Eddie Clarke - later the Motorhead guitarist of the classic 1977-1982 period! Released in 1974, a completely forgotten but very good album by the British formation Zeus, led for a while by the American vocalist Curtis Knight - known mainly for his short-lived (and not very successful) collaboration with Hendrix (before the Experience). Recorded in London, the album contained above all Clarke's excellent, refined and almost archetypal guitar parts - and it is for them that this CD is worth having. Apart from that, the record featured plenty of heavy and genuinely intriguing numbers (though not shying away from rhythm'n'blues interludes) - only occasionally 'disturbed' by female backing vocals or keyboard entries. There are several longer tracks (the 9-minute "Cloud" is sensational), so the record should be of great interest to all lovers of classic rock and of course every Motorhead fan! This is yet another proof that there are still plenty of strong records left to discover! Recommended! (JL) -

Italian reissue by Akarma, in a stiff gatefold sleeve (with a booklet), of a great album whose status is almost legendary! Originally released in 1972 in 60 copies of the LP, it contained a heavy variety of rock, with fuzzed guitar and long solos - all in a progressive sauce. In my opinion, alongside Grannie, it is the best album among the British so-called "private pressings". ATTENTION! The original British vinyl in very good condition is worth over 6000 euros!!! Condition: NEW - sealed.
