DOWNING, JACK - JACK DOWNING - A Force That Cannot Be Named - Anthology 1966-1974 (2CD) - UK RPM Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
This out-of-print double CD from the British label RPM contains folk-rock material (in the style of CSN&Y) by an American vocalist settled in Sweden and recording with the local musicians of the group The Other Side. His best achievement is without a doubt the LP "Now And Then", released in 1970. Recommended! (JL) -
CD
DUFFY - DUFFY - Scruffy Duffy +5 - UK Esoteric Remastered Expanded Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Released in 1973, the second (as it turned out years later...) album by this British band, containing very dynamic, Purple-and-Heep-like hard rock (guitar + organ), with clearly progressive touches (including the 9-minute "St. John's") and of the best kind. "Changing My Ways", on the other hand, at times reminiscent of "Highway Star", is a hard-rock classic! A remastered 2021 edition, in a digipak, with five previously unpublished bonus tracks. Highly recommended! (JL) -
LP
EMERSON LAKE & PALMER - EMERSON LAKE & PALMER - Live In Brussels 1971 - UK Far Out Limited Press - VERY RAREprice: 120,00 PLN / 30,00 EUR
Limited to 500 copies, a beautifully produced (in a gatefold, laminated sleeve with nice photos of the band) 53-minute British black vinyl, containing an excellently recorded concert from March 1971, not previously released on record (only on a rare DVD), recorded in Brussels, four months after the release of the brilliant debut album. The band presented the whole first side in slightly extended versions, plus a 17-minute version of The Nice's classic "Rondo" and "Nutcracker" combined with bluesy rock and roll. The sound quality is excellent and it is a fantastic complement to the classic album "Pictures At An Exhibition", recorded two weeks later! Together these two albums present the band's full live repertoire of that period! And that superb cover! A must! -
CD
EUROPE - EUROPE - Wings Of Tomorrow - UK Lemon Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
Remastered edition of the second album by the once popular Swedes. As with the excellent debut (Maiden and Judas in one) - it was different, sharper and decidedly more feisty playing than that on "Final Countdown" - closer to the aesthetics of Heavy Load, Judas Priest and Riot, but also UFO and Thin Lizzy. I definitely recommend this album, although I know that among most fans of heavy music the name Europe is not held in the highest regard... (JL) -

FAMILY - FAMILY - BBC Sessions 1968-1969 (2LP) - AUS Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 200,00 PLN / 50,00 EUR
Family is one of the most important British progressive formations of the turn of the 60s and 70s, with the charismatic vocalist Roger Chapman (and bassist Rick Grech, later known from Blind Faith and Traffic). Unfortunately, very popular and esteemed in the British Isles (at the start of their career the Beatles went to their concerts!) - they never broke through in the States (not to mention Poland). This superb, limited double vinyl from the label Merida contains 26 tracks (lasting 105 minutes) from the BBC radio archives - recorded over the course of one year - after the release of the debut album and before the release of the 'third'. The double LP contains seven tracks unreleased on CD: the studio "Hometown" and "Bring It On Home" and five live tracks (of average quality, but superbly played) from November 1968. The whole thing sounds excellent (with the exception of the aforementioned side 4), and compared with the CDs several tracks not only sound better, but are not faded. The pressing is excellent, very clean, with great dynamics. The very attractive, stylish, gatefold cardboard sleeve (in the American style) corresponds perfectly with the music. The record has long been out of print! A must! -

The third CD contains tracks from the unreleased album "Second Chance" and recorded live in Pt Lincoln in South Australia, as part of the "Country Arts Tour". -

Released in a beautiful, gatefold, laminated sleeve (inside which are several really nice photos of the band), a single European vinyl, LIMITED TO 500 COPIES, containing the band's complete, 50-minute show from the legendary festival, which drew 400 thousand music fans! The sound quality is sensational - even better than on the official DVD. GIBBS, MICHAEL (see also: Nucleus / Jack Bruce / Mike Westbrook) - MICHAEL GIBBS with THE GARY BURTON QUARTET - Festival 69 (3CD) - UK Turtle Records Card Sleeve Edition - LISTENprice: 100,00 PLN / 25,00 EUR
A previously unreleased live album, providing an insight into Gibbs's craft before his proper recording career (his debut album was released in 1970). Creating a big band boasting the cream of contemporary British jazz, Gibbs joined forces at the concert of 20 November 1969, at Whitla Hall in Belfast, with the pioneering vibraphonist Gary Burton and his quartet. The third CD contains a recording of a performance at Lancaster University, in February of the same year, already without Burton's quartet. -

The material has been remastered straight from the master tapes. Pressed on thick vinyl, the album has a beautiful, glossy, laminated, gatefold sleeve. In addition, a fold-out poster is enclosed with every LP. An edition licensed from Polish Radio, prepared in close cooperation with the band's leader and director Andrzej Nebeski. HAINES, NORMAN -BAND- (see also: Locomotive) - NORMAN HAINES BAND - Den Of Iniquity +2 - EU Ethelion Expanded Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
A heavy-progressive, British, forgotten rock classic in a great-sounding and beautifully presented edition from the Ethelion label! Originally released in 1971 by EMI Parlophone, this title is a superb, strictly progressive, though not heavy-free album, based on the all-pervading Hammond organ sound of the band's leader - formerly the vocalist and keyboard player of Locomotive. The 13-minute, improvised, galloping "Rabbits" is worth every penny. At the time most shops did not want to stock the album because of its rather blasphemous cover, which is why today the original British vinyl goes twice a year on eBay for 2000 euros! Additionally two tracks from rare singles (listed only on the vinyl label). New, sealed. A MUST! (JL) -
LP
HAPPENINGS FOUR (see also: Kuni Kawachi) - HAPPENINGS FOUR + 1 - Long Trip - FRA Absinthe Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
An excellent, unfortunately almost completely unknown outside Japan, top-shelf rock classic! The fourth (and last), without doubt the best album by the Japanese soft-progressive (earlier pop-psychedelic) band with the organist Kunio Kawachi in the line-up. This LP, released in 1971 by Capitol, contained a much more serious, more mature, richly arranged and genuinely gripping mixture of psychedelia and early progressive rock with Kawachi's organ (known, among other things, from the superb LP "Kirikyogen" recorded in 1970 with the future musicians of Flower Travellin' Band) and the guitar of Kimio Mizutani (who from a session musician turned into the "+1" in the band's name) in the leading roles. This gloomy album, devoted to the themes of transience and death, but very elegant and full of class (sung in Japanese), brings to mind the work of early Procol Harum combined with The Zombies (from the "Odessey And Oracle" period). I confess that a few years ago there was a moment when, after buying the vinyl, I listened to this title for 2-3 weeks, and the longer I listened to it the less I could tear myself away from it! The 10-minute "Death" included in the YouTube link (poor-sounding...) is an absolute masterpiece of psych-progressive rock, though there are really no weak moments on the record! New, sealed. An absolute must! (JL) -

HARTLEY, KEEF -BAND- (see also: John Mayall / Artwoods / Uriah Heep / Dog Soldier / Hemlock) - KEEF HARTLEY BAND - BBC Live In Concert (November 1970 - March 1971) - UK Maida Vale / Verne Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
The drummer Keef Hartley replaced Ringo Starr in Rory Storm & The Hurricanes (when the latter left for The Beatles), then played in The Artwoods, then in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and finally in 1968 founded his own band, to which he invited excellent musicians and the brass section of the aforementioned Mayall. This excellent LP, lasting 53 minutes and released in 500 copies, contains two live performances by the band - from November 1970 and March 1971 - made for a small audience gathered in a BBC radio studio. It is the best Keef Hartley Band one can imagine - especially the 25-minute "Medley" filling the whole first side - recorded with only five people, without a large brass section. Progressive, jazzy, powerful-sounding playing - much better than the music on the catalogue "Little Big Band"! The sound quality is excellent (Side 1) or almost ideal (Side 2), and the pressing perfect! All of the material appeared earlier on the sold-out, double LP "Live At The BBC 1969-1971". For CD lovers I recommend the similarly compiled CD "British Radio Sessions", expanded by nearly 30 minutes! A MUST! NEW, SEALED. -

HEMLOCK (see also: Keef Hartley Band / Dog Soldier) - HEMLOCK - Hemlock +4 - UK Esoteric Remastered Expanded Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
A nice, slightly bluesy and folky, and slightly hard rock album by the British band led by Miller Anderson - earlier a mainstay (guitarist/vocalist) of the Keef Hartley Band. Remastered 2022 edition, expanded with a single track and three previously unreleased recordings. Recommended! (JL) -

IDLE RACE (see also: The Move / Jeff Lynne / Electric Light Orchestra) - IDLE RACE - BBC Radio Sessions 1967-1969 - FRA On The Air Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Idle Race was a British soft-psychedelic band led by the young Jeff Lynne, and inspired by The Beatles, The Move (they were close friends with Roy Wood's band) and American bands of the 60s such as Moby Grape and Love. This superb, hour-long CD limited to 500 copies contains radio sessions recorded live by this great but very underrated band at the BBC studios (with a few basic overdubs) in the period from October 1967 to September 1969. The record also contains great covers not released on the band's official albums. Most of the tracks were issued on the very rare BBC Transcription Service discs, released in the late 60s exclusively for promotional purposes. This unbelievably good material is in my opinion much better and better produced than the very good studio albums. And of course every Electric Light Orchestra and The Move fan should have this record! A MUST for all fans of British playing from the late 60s! (JL) -

IF - IF - If +2 - UK Repertoire Remastered Expanded Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
The debut album by a once popular British progressive band based on the interplay of wind instruments (saxophones, flute), Hammond organ and great guitar. Something like early Jethro Tull with early Blood Sweat & Tears. Nice compositions and excellent musicianship. Remastered edition with two bonus tracks. All the band's early records (up to 1972) belong to the canon of rock! Highly recommended! (JL) -

IRON BUTTERFLY (see also: Blues Image / Captain Beyond) - IRON BUTTERFLY - Unconscious Power - An Anthology 1967-1971 (7CD BOX) - UK Esoteric Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 220,00 PLN / 55,00 EUR
A seven-disc box set from 2020, containing all the albums ("Heavy" from 1968 - in stereo and mono versions, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" from 1968, "Ball" from 1969, "Live" from 1970 - stereo and mono, "Metamorphosis" from 1970) and singles recorded by the legendary American band for the Atco Atlantic label in 1967-1971, as well as recordings from four concerts that the band gave at the Fillmore East in New York - on 26 and 27 April 1968. All the tracks were remastered from the original Atlantic Records tapes. Eighteen of them appear on CD for the first time. Additionally a poster and a 68-page booklet. Highly recommended! (MU) -

JASPER - JASPER - Liberation - FRA Absinthe Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
Yet another unknown English band. Released in 1969, Jasper's sole and mega-rare album is a mixture of rock and blues drizzled with psychedelic sauce, that is, early progressive rock. The album contains a brilliant 7-minute, strongly psychedelic version of "Baby Please Don't Go" played at a veeery slow tempo. It is one of those records that gain a lot on repeated listens. The original on the Spark label is worth over 2000 euros, so it is probably worth investing in a great-sounding and beautiful-looking reissue. Highly recommended! New, sealed. -

LP
KANSAS - KANSAS - Six For The Stage - Rare Live Recordings 1975-1978 (2LP) - FRA Verne Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 170,00 PLN / 42,50 EUR
A limited, 102-minute double album, released by Verne Records in a beautiful, laminated sleeve with nice photos. In the second half of the 70s Kansas was (in my opinion) the best American band of the heavyish progressive rock circle and at the same time a mega-star filling stadiums. This is an alternative set of recordings to the classic, also double LP "Two For The Show" from 1978, but in my opinion even better, because more progressive (containing much longer tracks)! This fantastic and great-sounding album contains classic material recorded in 1975–1978 (in the period of such albums as "Masque", "Leftoverture" and "Point Of Know Return"), intended for "Two For The Show", but ultimately left off the vinyl edition. Most of the recordings from "Six To The Stage" were released earlier on the second disc of the expanded 2CD "Two For The Show - 30th Anniversary Edition". The pressing and sound quality is simply ideal! A must! Condition: NEW, sealed.
