SAVATAGE - SAVATAGE - Power Of The Night +2 - GER Ear Music Remastered Expanded Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Very nice second album by the Americans - slightly weaker than the sensational debut released two years earlier, but still maintained at a high level and definitely worth recommending. Plus two live bonus tracks from 1990. (K) -
CD
SEGAL, MARIAN (see also: Jade) - MARIAN SEGAL & JADE - Fly On Strangewings - Anthology (3CD) - UK Cherry Tree Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 120,00 PLN / 30,00 EUR
An exquisite, folk-progressive album by a British band (recorded with several distinguished musicians, such as John Wetton and James Litherland - then in Mogul Thrash), reminiscent of a somewhat gentler Trees. The second disc has tracks recorded by the vocalist as a duo with Dave Waite (co-leader of Jade), and the third with the Marian Segal Band. -
CD
SHAPE OF THE RAIN - SHAPE OF THE RAIN - Riley, Riley, Wood And Waggett (Deluxe Edition) (3CD) - UK Grapefruit Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 130,00 PLN / 32,50 EUR
A three-disc set containing the 1971 album "Riley, Riley, Wood And Waggett" (the only one released at the time) enriched with fifteen previously unpublished tracks and two compilations: "Shape Of The Rain" - released in 2001, containing tracks from 1966-1973 and a CD featuring previously unpublished live recordings from 1968-1973. Delicate, often genuinely charming playing - a cross between folk-flavoured Wishbone Ash and the Beatles (or rather Badfinger). Highly recommended! (JL) -

An excellent and at the same time first professional band of Roy Wood (The Move, ELO) and later Idle Race musicians - with four singles for Columbia to their name. Very solid, classic British beat. THIS BRITISH CD HAS LONG BEEN OUT OF PRINT! RECOMMENDED! (JL) -

SLOUGH FEG (see also: Hammers Of Misfortune) - SLOUGH FEG - Digital Resistance - EU Metal Blade Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 80,00 PLN 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
The excellent studio record was released in a digipak by Metal Blade Records - in existence since 1982 and probably the most important record label in the history of metal, where over 20 years ago Metallica and Slayer started out! What is there to write - the album is superb (like every one recorded by Mike and co.) and probably their best since 2005! Most bands, on joining Metal Blade, would probably have recorded something the label, or the metal public, would expect. The quartet, however, made no compromise at all; they did not change studio, producer or metallise the sound (quite the contrary - they seemed to go back even further into the 70s) - they simply presented once again classically delivered, quite melodic hard rock with an old sound and two lead guitars (and an acoustic one jangling at times in the background) - something like a slightly heavier Thin Lizzy (of the LP 'Black Rose' period) combined with old Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and very early Iron Maiden - but without speed-ups, rather. I remind you that 'Digital Resistance' is the first studio record made by the band after the CD/2LP 'Made In Poland' was made - released by my, that is, our, Polish Megadisc :-) The 15-minute promo film 'Made In Poland' is placed in the second music link. One more thing... The band will probably not conquer the metal world with its ambitious, heavy playing, but at least it turned out that, in promoting the band's music for years, I was probably right about its talent! A MUST! (JL) -

SLOUGH FEG (see also: Hammers Of Misfortune) - SLOUGH FEG - Made In Poland (Live In Warsaw 2011) - POL Megadisc Edition - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Well, sometimes dreams come true! This is a recording of the concert organised by Megadisc on 2 August 2011, during the tour promoting the CD "The Animal Spirits". Released by us in a run of 500 copies, the 70-minute CD with a 32-page booklet is the ninth in the official discography, and the first live album of THE BEST METAL FORMATION OF THE LAST 25 YEARS! I remind you that California's Slough Feg play traditional, melodic (in the positive sense of the word), strongly eclectic, heavy rock/metal with an old sound (for two lead guitars) in the style of the early recordings of Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy! Since 2006 I have been a staunch (even manic) fan of this San Francisco quartet and I genuinely consider them an exceptional formation - simply perfect! 'Made In Poland' is a 100% official recording, released in close cooperation with Slough Feg, of a fantastic (lasting 105 minutes in total) concert that (organised by Megadisc for an audience that was, unfortunately, small...) took place at Progresja in Warsaw. The record contains 72 minutes of excellent, traditional metal - and what is more sounding SENSATIONAL! The concert itself was very well amplified (it is worth stressing that the musicians played on specially imported, old, classic Marshall, Hiwatt and Mesa Boogie sound equipment and on old drums that once belonged to Acid Drinkers!), but the quality of the recorded material exceeded my wildest expectations! Mike Scalzi's vocal sounds wonderful, very mature (the guy probably did not sing out of tune once!), both guitars play their parts loudly, clearly, in the old style and with great separation for each channel, and the drum sound is a true revelation - you can hear almost every hit, even the quietest! How different this sounds from the typical "cardboard shoebox" - the dull sound characterising 90% of live albums released today! I admit immodestly that I cannot recall a better recorded live metal album! 'Made in Poland' (a title that is both a patriotic outburst and a kind of tribute to Deep Purple's 'Made In Japan' - my favourite album of all time...) stylistically strongly resembles a combination of Thin Lizzy's "Live And Dangerous", UFO's "Strangers in the Night", Scorpions' "Tokyo Tapes" and Judas Priest's "Unleashed In The East"! Yes! Those four heavy rock monsters of the late 70s - each with the parts of two lead guitars in the main roles! I am not exaggerating in the least! Besides, 'Made In Poland' sounds as if it had been recorded somewhere between 1977 and 1981 - with numerous passages sounding as if they had been made even earlier! At the same time, hand on heart, I must write that in my opinion the Slough Feg live album is no inferior to any of the above titles either in the quality of the compositions or in performance! ATTENTION! NO OVERDUBS WHATSOEVER were used on the record apart from the editing of the audience noise and some individual sounds (tuning) or announcements. Personally I consider this vinyl a great musical event and at the same time a real treat for lovers of juicy, guitar-driven playing with a clear melody, but as the publisher of the record I am probably not very credible. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! ATTENTION! The double vinyl edition ON COLOURED - WHITE AND RED VINYL, IN A CHANGED SLEEVE AND WITH AN ENCLOSED 24-PAGE, COLOUR BOOKLET (containing many more photos than the CD version) came out at the end of December 2012. -

SMOKIE - SMOKIE - Original Album Classics 1975-1978 (5CD) - EU Sony Card Sleeve Edition - LISTENprice: 120,00 PLN / 30,00 EUR
Box set containing the first five classic records by a once popular pop rock formation (now described as "a gentler Badfinger"...): "Pass It Around" (1975) and "Changing All The Time" (1975) - both still recorded under the name SMOKEY, perhaps the best of the band's whole discography, the third album "Midnight Cafe" (1976), as well as the next, equally nice ones: "Bright Lights And Back Alleys" (1977) and "Montreux Album" from 1978. All the CDs are issued as replicas of the original vinyl and slipped into a thick cardboard box. Recommended. (JL) -

SOFT MACHINE - SOFT MACHINE - Soft Machine (1st Album) +2 - JAP Remastered Expanded Limited Edition - LISTENprice: 100,00 PLN / 25,00 EUR
The brilliant debut of Soft Machine - an incredible combination of intense psychedelia with elements of jazz and early prog rock. The only LP with Kevin Ayers; overdriven organ, pulsating bass, galloping drums (the drum kit known from the first three Hendrix records!) and the wonderful, sleepy voice of Robert Wyatt... Additionally two tracks from the 1967 debut single (still with Daevid Allen). A limited edition from Japanese Polydor, from 2021. An absolute must! (JL) -

SOMEONE'S BAND - SOMEONE'S BAND - Someones Band - EU Decca Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
A reissue, awaited forever, of the only and unfortunately completely forgotten album, released in 1970 by the Deram label, by a British progressive band playing heavy rock with elements of blues and sometimes throwing in elements of ethnic music - something like a combination of Savoy Brown, Black Cat Bones, early Fleetwood Mac of the LP Then Play On period and Jethro Tull. To me Someones Band's music is most reminiscent of the only album by the legendary Elias Hulk! Highly recommended! -

CD
SPIRIT - SPIRIT - Feedback - UK Eastworld Edition - LISTEN - OSTATNIE SZTUKIprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
"Feedback" came out in March 1972 and is probably the most controversial album in Spirit's entire discography. Not because it is particularly strange or experimental. Quite the opposite. It was the first album recorded after the departure of three key members of the band — Jay Ferguson, Mark Andes and Randy California. The album veered towards more down-to-earth American rock, at times even country-rock and classic guitar playing of the early 70s. The problem was that for many fans it no longer sounded like Spirit. The album is not a hidden masterpiece on the level of "Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus", but nor is it the catastrophe it has sometimes been made out to be. Had an entirely new band from Los Angeles recorded identical material in 1972, it would probably be remembered as a good, at times very interesting American rock album. As a Spirit record it remains rather a fascinating document of the break-up of a great band and an attempt to find a new path after losing almost all the key creators of its earlier sound.(JL) -

On the fourth CD we have the debut record in mono version, never before released on CD, and four tracks from the same session, and the last CD is singles, alternative versions and mixes. STALK-FORREST GROUP (see also: Blue Oyster Cult) - STALK-FORREST GROUP - St. Cecilia: The Elektra Recordings (2LP) - EU GREEN VINYL Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 170,00 PLN / 42,50 EUR
A limited, double album on green vinyl! STALK-FORREST GROUP was the earlier name of the New York band BLUE OYSTER CULT! The sole album, recorded in February 1970 and, without exaggeration, a great one, was to be released by Elektra, but for unknown reasons it never happened (in 1970 only a promotional single appeared, worth 300 euros today) and the material lay in the archive for as long as 30 years! The first (unofficial) vinyl edition from Shadoks came onto the market only in 1999 and today is worth 150 euros. It is one of the best American records I have come to know in recent years - a combination of folk-psych-rock sounds from the West Coast with heavyish, intense, guitar-driven, controlled thrashing, sometimes backed by organ sound. No country, no ballads, no longueurs. The 7-minute "St. Cecelia" is almost the guitar world championship! This is a perfectly produced (Sandy Perlman - later B.O.C.) and instantly catchy guitar record (a bit in the style of legends such as Blue Mountain Eagle, Christopher and Maypole) that every fan of American guitar playing must have. Excellent sound quality. Gatefold sleeve with lyrics inside and a really great pressing! Highly recommended! (JL) -
LP
STATUS QUO - STATUS QUO - Live At The BBC 1968-1970 - UK Maida Vale / Verne Press - LISTEN - VERY RARE - OSTATNIE SZTUKIprice: 150,00 PLN / 37,50 EUR
OUT OF PRINT! LAST COPIES! Superb, 60-minute material released on vinyl for the first time - in a very attractive, laminated sleeve with great photos of the band. Recorded live in the studio (with minor overdubs), the band sounded better than on the early records. The first side is a slab of underrated, exquisite, melodic soft-psychedelic rock, while the second side is much heavier material close to the aesthetics of hard rock. It goes down in one breath, but you have to like the music of the late 60s... All the recordings sound perfect. Please check the YouTube links, although some great tracks were unfortunately unavailable... A must! NEW, SEALED. (JL) -

LP
T2 (see also: Bulldog Breed) - T2 - 1971-72 (Unreleased 3rd Album) - SPA Guerssen Press - LISTENprice: 145,00 PLN / 36,25 EUR
Released only in 2012, very, very good, previously unpublished material recorded still as a trio, but already in a changed line-up - though with the vocalist/drummer/main composer Peter Dunton on board. What is there to say... T2 is the greatest mystery and the greatest hard-luck case in the history of British rock. If the brilliant second ("T2" from 1970) and this third album had appeared at the time, we would be dealing with rock masterpieces! "1971-72" contains nine recordings, of which seven stand at the band's typically very high level, while the other two are a little underdeveloped (including a decent, acoustic ballad and a nice drum solo with additions), but they still have class. Despite the fact that it is somewhat weaker material than the earlier two killers, it is still the slowly rolling, steamroller-like, dark but at the same time intriguing with sudden changes of mood T2 with sleepy vocals - just as we have known and loved for years. A 2022 Spanish reissue, dedicated to Peter Dunton, who died in January. -
CD
TEAR GAS - TEAR GAS - Tear Gas - UK Esoteric Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
A superb second album in the band's discography, without doubt among the very best of heavy British music! This Scottish band had a very heavy, dark, yet clear and exceptionally heavy sound. Catchy, concise compositions; superb guitar work (Zal Cleminson - years later of Nazareth, among others); a few covers ("Love Story" by Jethro Tull, "Jailhouse Rock" by Elvis) and the occasional Hammond in the background... Soon afterwards the group accepted Alex Harvey's proposal and turned into the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -
CD
TEN YEARS AFTER - TEN YEARS AFTER - Live At The Fillmore East (2CD) - UK Edition - LISTENprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
Wonderful material from the label's archives. The double CD (in a jewel case and in a cardboard slipcase) contains almost two hours of heavy, bluesy playing from the period of the album "Cricklewood Green". Who would not want to hear "Love Like A Man" live? A MUST! (JL) -
