Originally issued on the B&C label, the LP contained ambitiously arranged, breathy hard-progressive music, somewhat reminiscent of a blend of T2, Master's Apprentices and the debut of Hard Meat. This still underrated album captivates with its spacious sound and warm, though decidedly rocking, atmosphere. An absolute must! (JL) -

Another very good, soft-progressive, mainly instrumental album by the British guitar virtuoso - resembling a combination of early Rick Wakeman (1975-76), Camel of the second half of the 70s and the early records of the Alan Parsons Project - with elements of Old English folk. John G. Perry, Clive Bunker, as well as the somewhat forgotten gentlemen of the duo Edwards Hand took part in the recording. Excellent production. Recommended. -

Released in an attractive sleeve, a two-disc CD lasting 158 minutes containing above all a fantastic-sounding and superbly played 138-minute, legendary concert professionally recorded in Chicago on 13 October 1978 during the tour promoting the LP "And Then There Were Three" and broadcast by American radio. It was the first tour without Steve Hackett, but with the esteemed guitarist from the jazz fusion circle, Darryl Stuermer. On the second drum kit played the former drummer of Zappa and Weather Report - Chester Thompson. This was probably the best-sounding concert of the whole 1978 tour and at the same time it must be added that the band played fantastically! This is still stunning, progressive, of course lightly smoothed-out (like all the popular bands of the day) Genesis of the late 70s but with a dream set of tracks! It was certainly no worse playing than the last tour from 1977 with Hackett! Additionally 3 rare recordings played at other performances, lasting 20 minutes in all, are included: 'Down And Out', 'The Ballad Of Big' and 'The Fountain Of Salmacis'. The last of these appeared officially on 'Three Sides Live'. An absolute must for progressive rock fans! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

Released in an attractive sleeve, a two-disc CD containing a fantastic-sounding 115-minute concert from April 1976 - professionally recorded for a radio programme, shortly after the start of the American tour promoting the just-released LP "A Trick Of The Tail". It was the first tour with Phil Collins as vocalist, and also the only one with guest drummer Bill Bruford (ex-Yes, King Crimson)! Of course still with Steve Hackett on guitar! Besides, only then did the band perform "White Mountain", known from the LP "Trespass"! Together with the performance from London's Hammersmith, this is the best-sounding concert from the whole 1976 tour! All the musicians are perfectly audible! An attractively packaged, limited compilation of rare recordings from early singles and demo tapes, recorded in 1967-1973. This nearly 80-minute CD contains all the known/available recordings made by the earliest Genesis (Gabriel/Banks/Rutherford/Phillips/Silver) up to the debut LP "From Genesis To Revelation", including the excellent, unreleased "Build Me A Mountain", which would probably have been the best track on the debut! In addition, the original single vinyl mixes of recordings such as "Twilight Alehouse", "Happy The Man" and a shortened version (with an alternative ending) of "Watcher Of The Skies" are included. There is also room for two demo versions with drummer John Mayhew, from August 1969: "Going Out To Get You" and "Dusk". All the recordings were professionally recorded and sound simply excellent! Please also note the very attractive, fantastical cover by Paul Whitehead (creator of the covers for "Trespass", "Nursery Cryme" and "Foxtrot") + several rare photos, including one showing Genesis in the company of the Italian trio Le Orme (in 1972)!!! A rare, limited European CD, containing a very good-sounding, thrilling, 67-minute concert recorded by a fan on a decent reel-to-reel recorder at Rome's Piper Club in April 1972, during the tour promoting the LP "Nursery Cryme". For many years this classic material, adored by the band's fans, circulated in a much worse-sounding version (still considered good) - transferred too fast, what is more. This version (and also the recently released vinyl) comes from a new, much better source and, of course, at the right speed. In addition, two recordings from the same tour have been included, among them a superb, unique version (with very good sound) of the rarely played "Can-Utility And The Coastliners" - with a heavily extended (compared with the studio version) middle section. Released in a run of 500 copies, the second part of the recordings made for the BBC in 1972. This fan-club disc contains, among others, 30 minutes from a concert (at corrected, slightly slowed speed - unlike the recordings on the internet) and two studio sessions lasting 25 minutes each. The whole thing was made between the release of "Nursery Cryme" and "Foxtrot". It is hard to find better progressive playing! What is more, most of the performances here sound better than on the studio records! This is a priceless supplement to the catalogue albums - quite tastefully presented! A must! (JL) -
GENESIS - GENESIS - BBC Sessions 1 (January 1970 - May 1971) - SPA Top Gear Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
This brilliant, fan-club, Spanish CD contains very early, fantastic material recorded for BBC radio/TV between early winter 1970 and spring 1971 - that is, at a time when the band was only becoming the greatest (alongside Pink Floyd) progressive institution. This 80-minute disc, released in a run of 500 copies, brings together recordings of three sessions - two of them with guitarist Anthony Phillips and drummer John Mayhew. All eleven tracks have survived in perfect sound quality. The first session consists of four instrumental, beautiful pieces composed for a television film, the second contains, among others, three unreleased, ballad-progressive compositions, and the third (recorded already in the classic line-up with Collins and Hackett) contains, among others, an early version of 'The Musical Box' that is 80 seconds longer. In addition three bonus tracks are included - among them the only recorded version of the completely unknown track "The Light" and one of two or three live performances of the dynamic, but never officially released "Going Out To Get You". Both recordings had appeared on classic bootlegs, but now they sound slightly better. The BBC sessions were to be released officially in 1998 (a few test copies even came out), but in the end the project was halted by Tony Banks. An absolute must! (JL) -

Additionally, this 80-minute CD includes a 30-minute performance from March 1972, recorded live in the studio of Belgian TV - in excellent quality and for the first time on CD at the correct speed, since all the video materials play slightly too fast! Released in an attractive sleeve, a two-disc CD lasting 158 minutes containing above all a fantastic-sounding and superbly played 114-minute concert professionally recorded by the band (a so-called soundboard) on 3 January 1977 during the tour promoting the LP "Wind & Wuthering", released two days earlier. It was the second tour with Phil Collins as vocalist and unfortunately the last with Steve Hackett on guitar! On the second drum kit (in place of Bill Bruford) already played the former drummer of Zappa and Weather Report - Chester Thompson. This was probably (alongside Zurich 1977) the best-sounding concert of the whole 1977 tour. All the musicians are perfectly audible and in my opinion the whole sounds no worse than the official "Seconds Out"! Additionally, in the second part of the second CD a 45-minute, great-sounding (after remastering) radio broadcast of 7 tracks recorded 3 weeks later in Leicester, England, is included. A great advantage of this release of over two and a half hours is the unique, decidedly progressive recordings from the aforementioned "Wind & Wuthering" - completely omitted on the aforementioned catalogue 2LP 'Seconds Out' (1977)! An absolute must for progressive rock fans! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

Brilliant two-disc CD, limited to 500 copies and lasting over 150 minutes, containing the perfect-sounding, full, legendary concert from the Rainbow Theatre in London, recorded in October 1973 (during the tour promoting the LP "Selling England By The Pound"). Half of this material once came out on the official box set "Genesis Archives 1967-75", but unfortunately the band spoiled the whole thing in many places by inserting new Hackett guitar parts and Gabriel vocals! This is the uncut, ideal, 100-minute version sounding like a dream! And please look at the set of tracks!!! On the second disc four rarities are included, above all the suite "Supper's Ready" (in ideal quality), recorded in February 1973, which at the last moment did not fit on the LP "Genesis Live"! Besides that, there are two outtakes from the sessions for "Selling England" (including an excellent, almost psychedelic improvisation) and, from Rome, a charming live version of the single "Twilight Alehouse", from April 1972. To write an absolute must is not enough! (JL) -

Two albums from 1970. Galliard is British, jazzy, dynamic prog-rock with elements of folk and even psychedelia. Something like If, Walrus, Hannibal and Heaven. Both albums, once released by Decca, are truly charming, and the 9-minute, psychedelic (sitar!), trance-like "Ask For Nothing" from the 'second' is simply stunning! Highly recommended! -

A nice, very atmospheric item from Australia. The whole is kept in a fairly dark mood... Remastered (the only one on CD) 2006 edition. Recommended. -

It was released on 12 June 2000, commissioned by the Millennium Dome Show, a multimedia spectacle that was performed 999 times at the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, London, between 1 January and 31 December 2000. Unlike most albums in his discography, Gabriel handed over some of the main vocal parts to other vocalists, including Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins), Richie Havens and Paul Buchanan (The Blue Nile). -

The sound quality for an official bootleg (and for a hall reportedly completely lacking in acoustics) is very good, though not ideal. A link to the music is attached. Highly recommended! -

The sound quality of the last two tracks is almost ideal and, what is more, the publisher of the CD slightly corrected the too-slow speed of the source material. The whole sounds fairly similar to the classic "Live At The Rainbow" (recorded half a year later), but the sound quality and production are even better - simply perfect. And that superb "Anonymous"... This is a real treat for prog rock fans! A must! -

On CD for the first time! Brilliant debut by the progressive Swedes (previously known from, among others, the CD "Flasket" from 1972). Recorded at the end of 1970, almost entirely live, the album contained very catchy, at moments almost hypnotic, improvised material that is an original and unique blend of the style of King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Traffic and Deep Purple (saxophone, flute, organ, electric guitar, bass, drums). Fortunately there is no question of 'art for art's sake', and the individual tracks (four fairly long and four very short) had a fairly clear construction and in their own way were 'catchy'. Alongside the album by the group Panta Rei and perhaps the debut of Kebnekaise, it is my favourite progressive record from Sweden! A MUST! -

A digipak, remastered, beautifully sounding version of the record released in 1972 (and reportedly withdrawn from the market on the spot by the Czech censors, although we know there were reprints...), one of my most beloved records from the former Eastern Bloc! Without a doubt it is top three of the best rock records from behind the Iron Curtain and probably the most interesting (together with Meditace - Blue Effect, 1970 ) album once released in the former Czechoslovakia! Great, very absorbing, jazzy, decidedly European playing in the vein of Colosseum (the band was delighted with their Live from 1971) and If, but gentler, without edges and with charmingly catchy melodies, a very solid rhythm section, sharp guitar parts and really nice Czech vocals by the former Blue Effect vocalist. The band did not shy away from experiments with sound and very much wanted the sound of their record to resemble Abbey Road - The Beatles as closely as possible. This is not yet another Spanish or Italian mediocre copy of Mahavishnu Orchestra, but juicy, progressive jazz rock from the highest, world-class shelf! We also have a very nice compilation with single tracks from 1967-1972! A MUST! -

It was typical playing for the turn of the decades, that is ubiquitous organ parts, quite dynamic guitar parts, catchy melodies and a somewhat dreamy mood. It may bring to mind Andwella's Dream, Czar and Cressida, as well as Canterbury Glass. The whole thing comes in a gatefold digipak, with a 24-page booklet with rare photos and memories of the band's members inside. A MUST! (JL) -

On CD for the first time! It is hard to understand why this rare album, which after all was released by British Decca Records, was never released in digital form! In any case, released at the height of the punk revolt and perfectly produced, the Brits' only record is very nice, progressive rock (sometimes aided by a symphony orchestra) in the style of Camel, Yes, Genesis/Steve Hackett and ELP. Three longer tracks deserve special mention - two lasting 7 minutes each and one of 13 minutes. Alongside the CD England "Garden Shed", it is certainly one of the most successful forgotten titles of the second half of the 70s. The drummer had earlier played in the jazz-rock formation Igginbottom (of Allan Holdsworth). Highly recommended! -

Lots of Hammonds, mellotrons and nice analogue synthesiser sounds. This is the British sound circa 1973-74! We think that every fan of progressive rock should have this album in their collection and will certainly be enchanted by this music! This is top-shelf playing! I have always thought very highly of this almost completely unknown record, released by Polydor in 1970! Let me say at once that it is in no way the rhythm'n'blues-pop-soul known from the earlier (widely known) albums, but richly arranged and classically delivered progressive rock (with a dominant Hammond organ sound) at a very high level! Farlowe was not quite the main protagonist of this album, as the music itself was reportedly made much earlier, and the vocalist merely added his vocal parts at the end. The band The Hill, meanwhile, which grew out of the last line-up of the Thunderbirds, includes the keyboard player Peter Robinson (then in Quatermass), the guitarist and great composer Steve Hammond (ex-Fat Mattress, Quatermass) and the cellist Paul Buckmaster (early Elton John, Third Ear Band). So it is hardly surprising that the result was an exquisite, very refined, though not the easiest to take in (that is praise) album. Of course the record did not sell at all, and in that same year, 1970, Farlowe recorded the LP "Daughter Of Time" with Colosseum. Digipak edition, with three additional single tracks, one by The Hill and two by the Thunderbirds (from 1968). Highly recommended! (JL) -

This is not a British band, but a progressive, slightly bluesy outfit from the States with a single album, released by Liberty in 1970 and now reissued by Flawed Gems. The American Fantasy is a very eclectic combination of psychedelic style with a pinch of blues and jazz and a typically progressive (quite British) delivery! Quite long tracks, nice guitar solos, ubiquitous, heavy Hammond organ tones and a really nice female vocal! Typical 1970! And there is a surprise... It turned out that the first track on the record, Blues Creation/Carmen Maki's "I Understand", was composed by none other than the 16-year-old vocalist! Highly recommended! -

Released in 1971 by French Vogue on a double vinyl, the only album by the enigmatic band Experience (at the time that was a 'skeleton key' word), reportedly formed by musicians of the progressive groups Martin Circus and Triangle. The record was filled with 76 minutes of early-progressive playing (with strong influences of psychedelia, but also heavy rock and a pinch of jazz) based on the interplay of dominant Hammond organ and electric guitar, a juicy rhythm section and flute and saxophone parts. The whole was modelled on the work of Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, Procol Harum and Jimi Hendrix and sounded more like British rock of 1969-1970, but inevitably France was a little behind... The whole is great to listen to (even despite the weak vocals in Gimmie Some Lovin') and I recommend especially the last part of the record, where the band presented an instrumental cover of 'Let There Be More Light' by Pink Floyd (from their LP A Saucerful Of Secrets'), strangely titled here 'Let's Be More Light' and supposedly composed by... Nick Mason! Roger Waters would not be happy! A MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

On CD for the first time! Released in January 1971, the only album by a British, folk-prog-rock group led by Andy Roberts (Liverpool Scene and the great 1971 solo LP "Home Grown" - recorded with Mighty Baby...) and organist Bob Sargeant (ex-Junco Partners - later co-leader of the Mick Abrahams Band). The record was filled with very charming and fascinating material close to the style of Hard Meat, Forever More, and even Atomic Rooster - with a touch of CS&N. Frankly, it is the heavier/more progressive half of the album that is downright sensational (typical of 1970-71, stylistically varied British prog with organ or mellotron), though the more folky second part can also enchant (with the exception of one track in a country rock style)... The cherry on the cake is the two additional and decidedly rock tracks (Hammond again!) from the BBC archives! A great album that will delight everyone who believes the above text.
