"A difficult third album". The least successful of them all - as if the band did not know which direction to follow - to play ambitious, at times even orchestrated pop (as the label demanded), or to follow psychedelia... All in all it is not bad to listen to (it is still The Pretties, after all!). Several recordings are absolutely first-rate, although the next one in the discography - "S.F. Sorrow" - was a completely different kettle of fish! An edition in a digipak, from 2019, extended by seven recordings. -

Very good debut album by the Aphrodite's Child vocalist - then slowly heading towards a solo career. Released in 1971, the LP (made just before the brilliant "666") can safely be called the third AC album, all the more so as musicians from that group helped in its recording. It is ambitious, melodic pop rock with clear influences of Greek folk and progressive music. Besides, Demis had a genuinely charming voice! Recommended! (JL) -

The guitarist was the leader and main composer of the pop-psychedelic formation Angel Pavement. A transcription of the children's book Wind In The Willows (whose seventh chapter bore the telling name 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn'...), recorded in autumn 1969 as a demo tape, was to be developed by the band, but unfortunately that never happened. This beautifully presented CD is filled with delicate, melodic music (guitar and vocals) somewhat in the style of the calmer passages of Alice Through The Looking Glass. Plus 10 tracks from 1970-71. -

A great, two-disc compilation of 28 recordings concentrating on the band's very early period (1968-1971) — before it became a symbol of boogie rock and hard rock of the 70s. The material presented here will surprise people who know Status Quo only from later hits such as 'Roll Over Lay Down', 'Rockin’ All Over The World' or 'Whatever You Want'. The hit 'Pictures Of Matchstick Men' is classic, almost Beatles-like psych-pop-rock — fuzzy guitars, psychedelic effects and a very catchy melody. In "Ice In The Sun" or "Technicolor Dreams" you can again hear the influence of British psychedelia of the The Move kind or early Pink Floyd. At the same time, in the recordings after 1969 more raw, riff-driven playing was already beginning to appear, which later became the band's trademark. It is a great document of Status Quo's transformation from a psychedelic beat band into a full-blooded boogie-rock group (inspired by The Doors from the period of the LP 'Morrison Hotel' and the forgotten Steamhammer) - still penniless. A two-disc BMG edition in a digipak. -

"Emotion" is the debut album by the Dutch group, containing covers of Wilson Pickett ("In The Midnight Hour"), Joe Tex ("You Better Believe It"), Rufus Thomas ("Can Your Monkey Do The Dog"), Sam Cooke ("Nothing Can Ever Change This Love" and "For Miss Caulker Of The Animals"), as well as the group's original tracks, including the single "Don't You Leave", which for the first time took the band into the top ten of the charts. On this remastered edition, the additional CD contains demo versions and alternative mixes of the group's tracks. -

A three-disc compilation containing recordings from the independent Australian label Clarion, from the 60s and early 70s. It was founded by Martin Clarke, who lived in Perth and worked at a local radio station, and who turned a bedroom into a makeshift recording studio. This modest venture turned into Martin Clarke Recording Studios, which opened in 1962 and became the first professional recording facility in Perth. Between 1965 and 1974 Clarion released approx. 120 singles and 20 albums, including The Valentines with Bon Scott in the line-up. -

The record's greatest strength is the delicate vocal harmonies of the sisters Wendy and Bonnie Flower and the refined, spacious arrangements. Piano, organ, guitar and a light rhythm section give the recordings a warm, at times melancholy sound. Musically the album can be compared to The Free Design, Sagittarius and The Mamas & the Papas. It is an elegant, melodic and today cult record of American psychedelia of the late 60s. -

The compilation contains all the Pye Records releases, as well as recordings for the short-lived Trend label and as many as four albums from 1967-1969, recorded exclusively in the band's home studio. The latter reveal that at heart West Coast Consortium were a garage, psychedelic band. Twenty recordings appear for the first time, which makes "All The Love In The World" the band's first complete anthology! The whole thing in a four-panel digipak, with a 28-page booklet inside.
