The project was a new version of Ponty's "Violin Summit" (in which Svend Asmussen, Stephane Grappelli and Stuff Smith then performed), from 1966. At this concert the violinists were accompanied by: Robert Wyatt (Soft Machine / Matching Mole) - drums, Terje Rypdal (Min Bul) - guitar, Neville Whitehead (Keith Tippett Group) - bass guitar and Wolfgang Dauner - keyboard instruments. The album (a double on LP) included three compositions by Ponty, one each by Urbaniak, Dauner and Rypdal, and "Got My Mojo Working" by Muddy Waters. A remastered 2007 edition. (MU) -

A five-disc set presenting a comprehensive look at the beginnings of punk rock in the USA and Canada. It contains tracks by the most influential bands of the scene and many rare singles that appear on CD for the first time. The compilation, which took its title from the famous track "Blank Generation" by Richard Hell, documents the emergence in North America of what would soon be called punk rock. A year or two before the explosion of punk in Britain, bands who were playing live at venues such as CBGB in New York began to release records, often on independent labels. Here we will hear the influential bands from New York: Patti Smith Group, Ramones, Television, Blondie, Richard Hell & The Voidoids, as well as other pioneers of the scene, such as Pere Ubu and The Dead Boys (both Cleveland, Ohio), Dead Kennedys and Crime (San Francisco), Devo (Akron, Ohio), The Germs and The Weirdos (Los Angeles) and Mission Of Burma (Boston, Massachusetts). The American punk scene was probably always more musically diverse than the British one, as the tracks on CD4 and CD5 may demonstrate. At the end of the sixties the international music world shifted from places such as Liverpool, London and San Francisco to Laurel Canyon, a rural oasis in the middle of the hubbub of Los Angeles. Under this somewhat complicated title ("Look at the sun - precious seconds thought to be irretrievable...") hides another fantastic compilation from the collectors' label Top Sounds - hitherto known for the three parts of the psychedelic series "Shapes & Sounds" (containing fantastic recordings from the BBC archives) and the compilation "Alphabeat" (containing very rare British bands ripped from super rare vinyls/acetates). The fifth title contains both BBC recordings (T2 x 2 - both unknown, including one from the same session as the three bonus tracks on the "Boomland" CD; Kaleidoscope x 2 - one unknown and one in better quality than on the BBC CD; Elastic Band with Paul McCartney's brother on vocals - unknown; Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera x 2 - both unknown and The Fleur De Lys - unknown) and great tracks by little-known or completely forgotten groups, including the great, psychedelic, Floyd-like formation Louise (two tracks), in which played the future guitarist of the group Fuchsia and... drummer Chris Cutler - later a member of Henry Cow and owner of the label Recommended Records. Either way, for relatively little money (compared with the originals worth many thousands...) you can have a chunk of fantastic playing (67 minutes) - and what is more, wonderfully packaged (32-page booklet). A VINYL VERSION is also available - on a single album with two T2 tracks placed on a single. The CD contains two more tracks by The Glass Opening. A MUST! -
