SOLITUDE AETURNUS (see also: Candlemass) - SOLITUDE AETURNUS - Into The Depths Of Sorrow / Beyond The Crimson Horizon (2CD) - UK Dissonance Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 80,00 PLN / 20,00 EUR
A compilation containing the first two albums by a cult American doom metal band: "Into The Depths Of Sorrow" from 1991 and "Beyond The Crimson Horizon" from 1992. Both records appear in rankings of the best doom works of all time, and the music often goes beyond the genre thanks to almost thrash-like accelerations. A must! (MU) -

SOLSTICE (UK Metal) - SOLSTICE - Halcyon + Demo 1997 - GER Remastedprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
Originally released in 1996, the great mini-LP "Halcyon", containing, among others, a very nice version of Manowar's "Gloves Of Metal", enriched with recordings, known earlier to few, from the demo tape "Drunken Dungeon Session" (1997). Recommended. -

SOMEONE'S BAND - SOMEONE'S BAND - Someones Band - EU Decca Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
A reissue, awaited forever, of the only and unfortunately completely forgotten album, released in 1970 by the Deram label, by a British progressive band playing heavy rock with elements of blues and sometimes throwing in elements of ethnic music - something like a combination of Savoy Brown, Black Cat Bones, early Fleetwood Mac of the LP Then Play On period and Jethro Tull. To me Someones Band's music is most reminiscent of the only album by the legendary Elias Hulk! Highly recommended! -

Three albums (including the two-disc debut from 1969) on a two-disc CD. Classic, fairly improvised, strongly eclectic American playing with organ and light brass, once released by Capitol Records and harking back to the style of Quicksilver, Jefferson Airplane, Mothers Of Invention, Blood Sweat & Tears and CS&N. The first album was decidedly the best, though the later ones are also charming. Highly recommended! -

SOUTHERN CROSS (see also: Buffalo) - SOUTHERN CROSS - Southern Cross - US Mandala Digipack - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Southern Cross is an Australian formation created on the initiative of the Buffalo guitarist John Baxter and vocalist Alan Milano (who sang on the LP "Dead Forever" by the aforementioned formation). Admittedly Baxter himself left the group before the record was made, but Milano stayed, and with other musicians he recorded a really nice hard rock album. Recommended. (K) -

SPECTRUM (AUS) - SPECTRUM - Part One - AUS Progressive Line Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Excellent, one of the most popular groups in Australia in the early 70s. This (first) album contained progressive music based on the deep sound of Hammond organ, though you can also hear some influences of psychedelia and blues. In 1973 Manfred Mann's Earth Band covered "Make Your Stash" and called it... "Joybringer", and a year later included covers of two (single) Spectrum tracks on the LP "The Good Earth" - perhaps by way of compensation! Highly recommended! -

SPECTRUM (AUS) - SPECTRUM - Part One - IRL Rabbit Hall Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
An excellent, one of the most popular bands in Australia in the early 70s. This (first) album contained progressive music, based on the deep sound of the Hammond organ, though some influences of psychedelia and blues can also be heard. In 1973 Manfred Mann's Earth Band reworked "Make Your Stash" and called it... A reissue additionally containing four single tracks. -

SPEDDING, CHRIS (see also: Battered Ornaments / Nucleus) - CHRIS SPEDDING - Songs Without Words - UK Esoteric Remastered Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
The debut solo album by the British guitarist, extremely distinguished on the rock and jazz scene. On the record, which was made in 1969, Spedding is accompanied by: Roger "Butch" Potter - bass guitar, John Marshall - drums, John Mitchell - keyboards and Paul Rutherford - trombone. From the publisher: "Although the album was due to be released by Harvest in Great Britain, it appeared only in Japan, only in April 1971, partly because of Spedding's dissatisfaction with the musical direction and mood of the album." This edition is from 2024 and has been remastered from the original tapes. Digipak with a 12-page booklet inside. (MU) -

SPEED GLUE & SHINKI (see also: Food Brain / Shinki Chen / Powerhouse) - SPEED, GLUE & SHINKI - Speed, Glue & Shinki (2nd Album) - AUS Progressive Line - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Once a double album, the second album by the Japanese heavy rock trio (with Shinki Chen on guitar) playing in the vein of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath - now on a single CD. 3/4 of the record is very reminiscent of the excellent debut LP "Eve". Unfortunately, the last 18 minutes are avant-garde experiments with sound. Fortunately, nearly an hour of great music still remains! -
CD
SPIDERS (MEX) - SPIDERS - Back - US Mandala Digipack Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
A very nice, psychedelic-progressive album from Mexico. This English-language record, dating from 1970, contains fourteen fairly short, though substantial, tracks based above all on nice organ parts and heavyish guitar. At times the band sounds like a combination of psychedelic American rock in the vein of The Doors, with early-progressive touches à la Procol Harum. A really nice, absorbing album. Very good sound quality, although in the quiet moments you can hear vinyl crackle... All the same, highly recommended. (K) -
CD
SPIRIT - SPIRIT - Feedback - UK Eastworld Edition - LISTEN - OSTATNIE SZTUKIprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
"Feedback" came out in March 1972 and is probably the most controversial album in Spirit's entire discography. Not because it is particularly strange or experimental. Quite the opposite. It was the first album recorded after the departure of three key members of the band — Jay Ferguson, Mark Andes and Randy California. The album veered towards more down-to-earth American rock, at times even country-rock and classic guitar playing of the early 70s. The problem was that for many fans it no longer sounded like Spirit. The album is not a hidden masterpiece on the level of "Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus", but nor is it the catastrophe it has sometimes been made out to be. Had an entirely new band from Los Angeles recorded identical material in 1972, it would probably be remembered as a good, at times very interesting American rock album. As a Spirit record it remains rather a fascinating document of the break-up of a great band and an attempt to find a new path after losing almost all the key creators of its earlier sound.(JL)
