Recorded in December 1979, the LP "Live Quartz" is rather classic heavy rock (in the style of later Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy) than metal, but it was precisely then that it all began to mix a little. An ideal thing for lovers of catchy guitar riffs and rather long solos! An edition in a digipak, from 2019. Recommended! -

Released in 1977, the debut album by the later NWOBHM classics, kept in the style of Black Sabbath's later recordings. It is hardly surprising, since the whole thing was produced (and contributed to musically) by Tony Iommi himself, and the band's leader at the time was Geoff Nicholls, playing guitar and keyboards - later a long-time Sabs collaborator. The superb opening track "Mainline Raiders" uncannily recalls "Heaven And Hell", which came three years later... In addition, five great recordings from rare singles (including a Mountain cover) and compilations. Excellent sound - beating the old Majestic Rock CD hands down! Highly recommended! (JL) -

Expanded British edition of the only album by a great, unfortunately somewhat forgotten, British formation playing eclectic prog rock in the style of The Nice, Egg and Atomic Rooster (without guitar, but you hardly notice...) based on the interplay of heavy Hammond organ and the rhythm section. In addition the record includes several almost hard rock tracks, including the original version of the track "Black Sheep Of The Family" - known from the debut of the group Rainbow. Among the bonus tracks are two tracks from a single, one live recording and the unreleased "Afraid Not". The second disc is a DVD audio with the album in a Surround version. Highly recommended! On CD for the first time! Released in 1975 by American United Artists, the third album in the career of this talented keyboardist may be an enormous surprise to many listeners! How is it possible that this excellent, progressive album from the States, kept at the level of the best achievements of the mid-70s, was so completely passed over/forgotten by fans of progressive rock and by CD publishers! In any case, MQ's best record in the discography is dominated by strongly classicising playing in the vein of Trace, Refugee, Focus, Rick Wakeman and early Queen. And however these comparisons may sound (repellent to some, no doubt), the record is filled with juicy, thoroughbred, almost entirely instrumental, progressive playing based on the sound of organ, mellotron and piano and quite sharp guitar and a solid rhythm section. It is enough to listen to the first two or three minutes of the 20-minute title suite to be sure that we are dealing with a record that is perhaps not entirely original, but in its own way truly exceptional! Oh, Michael Quatro is the biological brother of the once very popular Suzi... Highly recommended! -

A limited, black vinyl released in a beautiful, laminated sleeve with superb photographs of the band, containing rare, or unpublished recordings from the classic, early period of the band's activity. This LP, lasting over 50 minutes, contains, among other things, the first professional demo from Trident studio, from the end of 1971 (five tracks - 27 minutes), the previously unpublished, great "Silver Salmon" (probably from 1977, though some believe from 1974), "Polar Bear" (1972) from the repertoire of the band Smile, the rare recordings "Mad The Swine" (1972), "Feelings Feelings" (1977 - unreleased on vinyl), the bluesy "See What A Fool I've Been" (1974), taken from a single's B-side, as well as alternative versions of "Keep Yourself Alive" and "Seven Seas Of Rhye". This fan-club CD, limited to 500 copies and lasting 68 minutes, contains a recording of the legendary radio performance that Queen gave at the famous London hall on Christmas Eve 1975. The concert took place right after the release of the LP "A Night At The Opera" and shows the group in the role of a new rock star. Interestingly, almost all the tracks come from the excellent first three albums, so the playing is really heavy, intense, but always melodic and catchy. The sound quality is ideal - only in the rock'n'roll medley is it muffled. This concert at the Hammersmith Odeon, released on very limited and expensive vinyl by the BBC Transcription Service, is one of the most famous items in the band's unofficial discography. Combined with a gallery of very attractive photos, it is an essential item for every fan of the band! A must! (JL) -

A double, 180-gram, specially remastered ('half speed mastered') edition of the very successful, sadly last album by the band recorded in Mercury's lifetime.
