For me a stunner! A completely forgotten British band on its only album, from 1969, combined elements of hard-rock, classical music, pop and psychedelia in rather peculiar fashion with... diabolical moods. Such was the (short-lived) fashion at the time! Choirs, short sentences in Latin, church organs, heavy guitar riffs, catchy melodies - at moments the band sounded almost like Black Sabbath (without the great power), The Beatles or the forgotten Arzachel! The group Methuselah sounded somewhat similar (though without the pseudo-diabolical business). The whole thing was produced by Simon Napier-Bell, known among other things for working with The Yardbirds (1966). This is one of my favourite forgotten albums! Note! Unlike, for example, the records of the group Coven, this is not a Satanic album! A MUST! -

A limited French edition in a superb sleeve of the very good sole album, released in 1969, by a Japanese blues rock band led by guitarist Shinki Chen (later in, among others, Speed Glue & Shinki and Food Brain - recommended!). This album, ultra-rare in its vinyl version (about 1500 euros), contained almost exclusively great, English-sung covers of recordings by the British bluesy bands of the day (Hendrix, Cream, Ten Years After, The Yardbirds) and two Beatles songs (including an unconventionally delivered, very slowed-down, strictly bluesy, great "Back In The USSR" and, sadly, a very embarrassing "Ob-la-di-Ob-la-da" - the only weak moment of this 55-minute record). Without doubt the best were the monstrous, 15-minute versions of "Spoonful" and "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl", full of intriguing guitar improvisations, played in the style of Ten Years After, Savoy Brown and Cream. Super! Every lover of heavy blues from the late 60s must have this album. And that brilliant, psychedelic cover, which in laminated form simply looks stunning! Highly recommended! -

A remastered, 52-minute vinyl edition of the best material (alongside "S.F. Sorrow" from 1968) that The Pretty Things ever recorded, though originally under the name... Electric Banana! In 1967-1969 the band, which never complained of an excess of cash, recorded a series of records (one 10-inch - together with recordings by other artists - and two albums) for the music library label de Wolfe. On the first sides of the monophonic vinyl records the versions with vocals were placed, and on the second sides - instrumental tracks only. These recordings later appeared as music illustrating television programmes, low-budget British films, and so on. In any case, none of these records ever went on sale (they are now in great demand and worth 250-300 each in the original), and what is more, they were released under the name Electric Banana (the band's real name, May and Taylor, was never mentioned)... It is not hard to guess that the band was then at the peak of its form, and tracks such as "Alexander", "Eagle's Son" or "Blow Your Mind" (from the LP "Even More Electric Banana" from 1969) even surpass the legendary "S.F. Sorrow"! Additionally three instrumental versions are included. Great sound! An absolute must! NEW, sealed. (JL) -

An excellent, hard-psychedelic album, recorded in 1969 by a French millionaire dreaming of a career as a musician - Phillipe DeBarge, accompanied by the group Pretty Things, then (between the records "S.F. Sorrow" and "Parachute") at the peak of its form. The material only came out in 2009. The music is sensational; somewhat more acoustic than the decidedly rock, psychedelic masterpiece from 1968, but almost as excellent! There is overdrive here, Hammonds, Mellotron, vocal harmonies typical of PT. A 2017 British reissue, on 180-gram vinyl. Sealed. Highly recommended! -

In 1967-1969 the group, which never suffered from an excess of cash, recorded a series of records (one 10-inch - together with recordings by other artists - and two albums) for the music library label de Wolfe. On the first sides of the monophonic vinyls were versions with vocals, and on the second sides - only instrumental tracks. These recordings later appeared as musical illustration in television programmes, low-budget British films and so on. In any case, none of these records ever went on sale (they are now much sought after) and, what is more, they were released under the name Electric Banana (the band's real name was never mentioned)... It is not hard to guess that the band was at the peak of form at the time, and tracks such as Alexander, Eagle's Son or Blow Your Mind (from the LP Even More Electric Banana of 1969) outshine even the legendary S.F. Sorrow! As I already mentioned, the instrumental tracks (mixed in with the vocal versions) have appeared on CD for the first time and this is the best-sounding and most complete edition of "Electric Banana" ever released! To write "an absolute must" is not enough! -

A perfect-sounding, limited black vinyl lasting over 50 minutes, containing excellent radio sessions recorded by this superb, progressive band for the BBC, in the classic period of 1967-1969 (from the LP "Procol Harum" to "A Salty Dog"). In my opinion some of the compositions (such as "A Whiter Shade Of Pale") were played and produced better than the studio classics! The whole thing sounds perfect - like the catalogue albums (and sometimes better)! An absolute must! Condition: NEW, sealed. (JL) -

On CD for the first time! Released at the beginning of 1969 (by ABC Records) and produced by Eddie Kramer, the only album by this great American trio was a superb combination of heavy, Hendrix-style psychedelia with blues and a little psychedelic folk. Interestingly, the nearly 10-minute, heavyish blues is the weakest track on this record free of filler! Guitars dominated everywhere: overdriven, distorted and at times acoustic - backed by lively drumming and nice, energetic vocals. The album will certainly delight lovers of raw, guitar-driven playing from the late 60s in the vein of Hendrix and also Lincoln St. Exit, Euclid, Frost and Savage Resurrection. Highly recommended! -
