An excellent, progressive debut (with psychedelic touches) - with Keith Relf (ex-Yardbirds) on vocals! The record also features the former Yardbirds drummer Jim McCarthy, the future Colosseum and Steamhammer bassist Louis Cennamo and the future Strawbs keyboardist John Hawken. After the second record the band changed its line-up radically but the music stayed almost the same. Renaissance is an English band combining elements of rock, folk and classical music. Great arrangements, very melodic compositions, symphonic sweep and the lovely female vocals of Annie Haslam. The early albums (up to 1978) are truly wonderful. Remastered edition in mini LP form. (JL)
