SAHARA (see also: Subject Esq. / Out Of Focus / Gift) - SAHARA - Sunrise +2 - EU Prog Gems Limited Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
This is simply the band Subject Esq. under a name changed in mid-1973 and with two new musicians: the former Out Of Focus organist and the guitarist from the debut of the group Gift! Released in March 1974, Sahara's debut album is classic, richly arranged German progressive rock - inevitably stylistically close to Subject Esq. but also to Eloy, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Yes and Deep Purple (in the middle of the suite a fragment of 'Concerto' is even quoted). There are only 4 compositions on the record, including the aforementioned, eclectic, 27-minute suite! Fans of German progressive playing will be delighted! Additionally 2 excellent-sounding live recordings from August 1973, lasting 14 and 11 minutes respectively, are included. NOTE! The CD begins with the sound of a turntable needle dropping onto vinyl and only after a moment does a fragment of classical music appear and after a few seconds a rock band suddenly comes in... Why am I writing about this? Well, this not very fortunate fragment with the needle did not appear on the earlier CD edition of 'Sunrise' (probably because the label feared being suspected of sloppiness during mastering), so please do not make a complaint on this account, because for the first time the record is presented in its entirety! :-) A MUST! Condition: NEW, sealed. (JL) -

SATIN WHALE - SATIN WHALE - Desert Places - FRA Lumpy Gravy Remastered Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Superb debut album, released in 1974 by Brain Metronome (and sounding like 1972), by a German formation playing invigorating, energetic and fairly melodic/catchy progressive rock (lots of Hammonds, lots of flute, electric guitars, strong, dense drums) in the vein of the best moments of Jane, Eloy, Out Of Focus, Nektar and Twenty Sixty Six And Then - with a pinch of Jethro Tull (flute). Every track is great - there really is no filler and none of the later art rock whining. To tell the truth, as far as more commercial, heavier krautrock goes, it is an exemplary record and is recommended to all lovers of old rock! Excellent sound! A MUST! -

A superb debut album, released in 1974 by Brain Metronome (and sounding like 1972), by a German band playing refreshing, energetic and fairly melodic/catchy progressive rock (lots of Hammond organ, lots of flute, electric guitars, powerful, dense drums) in the vein of the best moments of Jane, Eloy, Out Of Focus, Nektar and Twenty Sixty Six And Then - with a pinch of Jethro Tull (flute). Every track is great - there really is no filler and none of the later, art-rock moping. SATIN WHALE - SATIN WHALE - Studio Albums 1974-1981 (5CD) - GER MIG Edition - LISTENprice: 200,00 PLN / 50,00 EUR
A five-disc CD box containing five studio albums by a great, progressive German band. The first two titles are excellent! NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: Desert Places (1974, Brain) The debut and at the same time the band's most highly regarded album. Long compositions, a lot of flute, saxophone and organ, an atmosphere close to early Camel or Eloy. Lost Mankind (1975, Nova) Somewhat more jazz-rock and technical than the debut, but still strongly progressive. Includes, among others, "Go Ahead" and "Beyond The Horizon". As a Keepsake (1977, Nova) A somewhat more accessible album, but still kept in a progressive spirit. One of the favourite records of many of the band's fans. A Whale of a Time (1978, Strand) An even bigger turn towards melodic rock and AOR. Conny Plank was among those responsible for production and mixing. Don't Stop the Show (1981, Polydor) The last studio album. The sound is now almost entirely rooted in the realities of the early 80s, with few of the former progressive elements. -

SATIN WHALE - SATIN WHALE - Whalecome - Live (2CD) - EU Digipack Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 85,00 PLN / 21,25 EUR
Released on CD for the first time, the fourth live album in the discography (also a double on vinyl) by a German progressive formation playing in the vein of Jane, Eloy and Nektar (sometimes a little heavier) - with a pinch of Jethro Tull (flute). Very good sound quality; the long tracks that predominate on the record are great, the shorter ones generally too. Recommended! -

SATIN WHALE - SATIN WHALE - Lost Mankind - EU Eclipse Remastered Edition- LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Released in 1975, the second album by a German band playing refreshing, energetic and fairly melodic/catchy progressive rock (lots of Hammond organ and flute, electric guitars, powerful, dense drums) in the vein of Focus and Jethro Tull, but also Emergency, Sahara and Subject Esq. And although not all the tracks are as killer and played with as much steam as on the debut LP "Desert Places" (Brain, 1974), there is no filler on the album. One of the best German achievements of the mid 70s! Excellent sound! Highly recommended! (JL) -

SCHICKE FUHRS AND FROHLING - SCHICKE, FUHRS AND FROHLING - Ticket To Everywhere +3 - UK Esoteric Remastered Expanded Edition - LISTEN - OSTATNIE SZTUKIprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
Third album (not counting the earlier release recorded by the duo Fuhrs And Frohling) by the progressive Germans. Well, for 1979 it was quite nice playing, though purists raised in the late 60s and early 70s may turn up their noses a little at the modern sound in the manner of the recordings of Yes, Genesis and ELP of the time, with a touch of new wave. 2010 edition, with three bonus tracks from 1978, long out of print. -

SCHULZE, KLAUS (see also: Tangerine Dream / Ash Ra Tempel) - KLAUS SCHULZE – X (2CD) - MIG Music Editionprice: 130,00 PLN / 32,50 EUR
X is among Klaus Schulze's most ambitious and monumental works, being at the same time one of the most important albums of the Berlin School strand. Each of the six extended compositions was inspired by outstanding historical and artistic figures – from Friedrich Nietzsche and Georg Trakl to Ludwig II of Bavaria and Heinrich von Kleist. Schulze creates vast, multi-layered soundscapes in which analogue synthesisers, sequencers and orchestral arrangements intermingle with extraordinary fluidity. The music develops slowly, but consistently, building an evocative atmosphere and leaving the listener room for their own interpretations. Compared with earlier albums the composer makes clearer use of acoustic instruments and richer arrangements, giving the whole a more symphonic character. A remastered version with one bonus track. -

SCORPIONS - SCORPIONS - Live In Essen, April 1975 - FRA Verne Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
An excellent, limited, 52-minute black vinyl released in a beautiful, laminated sleeve with early, nice (but sometimes also cheesy...) photos of the band. This superb album was recorded by the German radio station WDR during the April 1975 concert tour promoting the second, progressive LP in their discography, "Fly To The Rainbow" - of course with the Hendrix-loving guitarist Uli Roth! By some miracle the radio broadcast was professionally recorded by a fan of the band and hence this album! This material was available for years on CDs (and on YouTube) in dreadful quality! This is a different, almost perfect source! The long-player contains, among others, five tracks from the 'second album', unique covers of Hendrix's "Red House" and "Rock & Roll Queen" from the Mott The Hoople repertoire, as well as "Long Tall Sally" and a short, instrumental jam. An absolute must! Condition: MINT (NEW, unsealed). (JL) -

SCORPIONS - SCORPIONS - Lonesome Crow - JAP Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 120,00 PLN / 30,00 EUR
Released at the beginning of 1972, the debut by the band of Schenker and Meine belongs to the very top of the best heavy-rock (or rather heavy-progressive) albums in the history of rock! A brilliant and formula-exhausting combination of the style of very early Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and (in traces) Pink Floyd. Wonderful playing by the then 17-year-old guitarist - Michael Schenker, expansive compositions with a slightly psychedelic, dark mood, excellent, spacious production! An absolute must! A remastered 2010 Japanese reissue. (JL) -

SCORPIONS - SCORPIONS - Live In Essen, April 1975 - 'Fly To The Rainbow' Tour FM Broadcast - EU Sweet Leaf Limited Edition - VERY RAREprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A limited, excellent European CD lasting 79 minutes, containing two performances by the classic line-up, with guitarist Uli Roth: a 50-minute radio-broadcast performance from Essen, Germany, from April 1975 (from the tour promoting the second, hard-progressive LP in their discography, "Fly To The Rainbow") and (as a BONUS) a 30-minute 'live' performance from Swiss TV from 1977 (promoting the LP "Virgin Killer"). The Essen concert was recorded by the German station WDR, and somehow the radio broadcast was professionally recorded by a fan of the band, hence this album! This material was available for years on CDs (and on YouTube) in much worse quality - with crackles! This is a different, almost perfect source! The band performed, among others, five tracks from the 'second album', unique covers of Hendrix's "Red House" and "Rock & Roll Queen" from the repertoire of Mott The Hoople, as well as "Long Tall Sally" and a short instrumental jam. The May 1977 performance, in turn, contained eight recordings in perfect sound quality. The whole is an ideal complement to the band's splendid catalogue records from 1974-1977. An absolute must! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

SCORPIONS - WIND OF CHANGE - Historia zespołu Scorpions - MARTIN POPOFFprice: 45,00 PLN / 11,25 EUR
Scorpions are without a doubt the best-known and best German rock band of all time, and at the same time one of the best export goods to come out of Germany. In the biography "Wind Of Change" Martin Popoff presents the history of the band's career, analysing every track from every album it has ever recorded. From Lonesome Crow, released in 1972, through Blackout, the "farewell" album Sting In The Tail, right up to the latest Return To Forever - here we find the story of the making of each of them. Speedy's Coming, Dark Lady, Catch Your Train, Virgin Killer, Another Piece Of Meat, Animal Magnetism, Lovedrive, Holiday, The Zoo, Blackout, No One Like You, Rock You Like A Hurricane, Still Loving You, Wind Of Change - these wonderful tracks have gone down permanently in the history of rock and heavy metal, and we learn about their origins from the pages of this book too. Martin Popoff interviewed people who played important roles over the many years of the Scorpions' career. Among them, Klaus Meine, Uli Jon Roth, Herman Rarebell, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs talk about their experiences, as well as many other people connected with the band, including David Krebs, Ralph Rieckermann and Francis Buchholz. 384 pages, hardback. -

SIXTY-NINE - SIXTY-NINE - Circle Of The Crayfish - GER Digipack Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Released in 1973 by the label Phillips, a great debut album by a German progressive duo (drums and organ). The music of Sixty-Nine is dynamic progressive rock, improvised and for the most part instrumental, based on ubiquitous Hammond organ parts and dense drumming, somewhat reminiscent of the output of Deep Purple, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Beggars Opera, The Nice, as well as Attila. All the tracks are very good and superbly played, while the 15-minute "Paradise Lost", full of changes of tempo and mood, deserves special mention. Fans of the genre will be delighted. Highly recommended!
