Unreleased, live material recorded in 1973 - still before the only official album. Raw, but very energetic, heavy-rock playing with a bluesy feel. This 74-minute CD contains a very nice, somewhat raw but highly enjoyable recording of a performance from Switzerland in 1973 and a 30-minute fragment of a concert from Nottingham, recorded in the same year, technically minimally poorer. Recommended! -

Unreleased material from before the debut record. The digipak is a collection of 15 rare, quite professional recordings from 1969-1972 showing the group from a much stronger side than on their only official LP 'Up The Hardway' (1974) and, on top of that, not shying away from instrumental parts. What a pity that Hackensack did not record an album in 1970, or even in 1972! Recommended! -

The 13-minute, improvised, galloping "Rabbits" is worth every penny. At the time most shops did not want to stock the album because of its rather blasphemous cover, which is why today the original British vinyl goes twice a year on eBay for 2000 euros! A double-disc recording of a concert held on 3 November 1996 at Union Chapel in Islington, London. It was the first time that four former members of Van der Graaf Generator had played together in front of an audience since the band split in 1978. David Jackson and Hugh Banton were unannounced guests, and all the pieces that evening were played in various line-ups. Only "Lemmings" was performed jointly by Hammill, Evans, Banton and Jackson. -

Yet another forgotten British progressive band with a single, entirely captivating album to its name. Long compositions, wonderful, slightly jazzy guitar parts, almost ubiquitous Hammond organ resonating in the background and a generally palpable bluesy-jazzy, airy mood. An album kept in the style of Heaven, Walrus, If, and even early Jethro Tull - at their best moments. It is an absolutely obligatory item for every lover of British, progressive playing! Recommended! -

Two albums (1967-1969) on one CD. The famous debut is a heavily doped, improvised, psychedelic-musical happening, a bit like a longer version of the Rolling Stones' "Sing This All Together" (from the LP "Their Satanic Majesties Request"). The group Art took part in the recording, among others (though it was not the same playing as on their LP...) - soon afterwards renamed Spooky Tooth. The second record was made with a completely different line-up, with the help of, among others, Tony McPhee (Groundhogs), but was much less psychedelic. -

Very subtle, though generally rather dynamic, progressive, guitar-and-organ playing with acoustic interludes. The Brits mixed all sorts of genres: rock, folk, blues and psychedelia and wonderful things came out of it! Melodic compositions, sometimes reaching ten minutes - generally much shorter, though. The band's music brings to mind The Strawbs (with sharp guitar), the Danish Culpeper's Orchard, Jethro Tull, CSN&Y and late The Beatles. Great sound! Digipak edition. A must! (JL) -

Only two tracks released on a single saw the light of day, including a cover of The Beatles' "Rain". The rest first appeared in 2022 on the three-disc box set "Space Between". Now the whole album is finally on vinyl!
