The last 3-4 minutes of this album (the end of music file number 1...) are almost the best progressive sounds I have heard in my life! Edition with the American version of the cover. A must! -

A five-disc box set containing all the albums by the hard rock band (with slight glam influences) with Brian Johnson (pre-AC/DC) on vocals! I would like to note that Brian sang a little cleaner and, I think, better than in AC/DC... Especially on the first two albums this was thoroughbred, guitar-driven, heavy playing, decidedly in the vein of early Nazareth (1973), a bit like Slade and Sweet in their heavier moments and like very early AC/DC! Highly recommended! -

Female and male vocals; the raw sound of the guitarist from Velvett Fogg; archaic-sounding organ; charming melodies; a dark, gloomy mood - what a perfect start to the 70s and at the same time one of my beloved British albums - requiring a few listens, however! Highly recommended! -

The Steve Gibbons Band was formed by a vocalist and guitarist who had been active on the Birmingham music scene since the early sixties. He had previously played in the bands The Ugly's and Balls (with Trevor Burton, known from The Move, and Denny Laine, formerly of the Moody Blues), and later joined Idle Race, arriving just at the end of its activity, but together with his colleagues he formed his own band. The box contains three studio albums by the band: "Any Road Up" from 1976, "Rollin' On" from 1977 and "Down In The Bunker" from 1978 and the live ones, "Caught In The Act" from 1977 and "BBC Radio One In Concert" recorded on 17 November 1977 at the Golders Green Hippodrome in London. A total of nineteen bonus tracks have been added to the first four, taken mainly from John Peel's broadcasts. The band's music is hard rock with elements of folk, and Gibbons himself has been compared to Bob Seger. All the records have been remastered, and the whole thing comes in a rigid box. (MU) -

A previously unreleased live album, providing an insight into Gibbs's craft before his proper recording career (his debut album was released in 1970). Creating a big band boasting the cream of contemporary British jazz, Gibbs joined forces at the concert of 20 November 1969, at Whitla Hall in Belfast, with the pioneering vibraphonist Gary Burton and his quartet. The third CD contains a recording of a performance at Lancaster University, in February of the same year, already without Burton's quartet. -

Could Steve Harris (the leader of Iron Maiden) have been inspired by the logo and typeface? And on top of that he later borrowed the title of this album for his own band's record of 1992? Another very good, soft-progressive, mainly instrumental album by the British guitar virtuoso - resembling a combination of early Rick Wakeman (1975-76), Camel of the second half of the 70s and the early records of the Alan Parsons Project - with elements of Old English folk. John G. Perry, Clive Bunker, as well as the somewhat forgotten gentlemen of the duo Edwards Hand took part in the recording. Excellent production. Recommended.
