A new, remastered edition of the only, but truly excellent, album by a British trio, recorded at the famous EMI studios on Abbey Road and released in 1971. Originally issued on the B&C label, the LP contained ambitiously arranged, breathy hard-progressive music, somewhat reminiscent of a blend of T2, Master's Apprentices and the debut of Hard Meat. This still underrated album captivates with its spacious sound and warm, though decidedly rocking, atmosphere. An absolute must! (JL) -

Sensational! Four-disc box set from the British label Lemon containing, made for Bronze Records, the first four albums by the best all-female formation in the history of rock! The LP "Demolition", released in 1980, and the next one, "Hit & Run" (1981), are absolute classics of the NWOBHM genre - very energetic, juicy and at the same time melodic playing, somewhat reminiscent of a slightly softened version of Motorhead's "Ace Of Spades"! These are albums I have listened to regularly since I was 15! The next two records maintained a high level, but compared with their predecessors were already slightly weaker ("Screaming Blue Murder" from 1982 - still very heavy, metal, and the Slade-produced LP "Play Dirty" from 1983 - already somewhat mellowed, more geared towards the American market). In addition twelve great bonus tracks from singles are included, among them my favourite, the sensational live "Demolition Boys"! Please have a look at the old video for the track "C'mon Let's Go" or the duet performance with Motorhead... A must! (JL) -

I will always have great sentiment for the early work of this best female band in the history of rock! Two-disc, British edition collecting all the band's singles. The first CD from the period of the LP "Demolition" and "Hit & Run". Rocking and very juicy playing reminiscent a little of a somewhat softened version of Motorhead's "Ace Of Spades"! The first single had not appeared before on any of the group's records! Additionally two unreleased demo recordings from 1978! (JL) -

A black vinyl limited to 500 copies, lasting over 50 minutes, released in a beautiful, psychedelic, laminated sleeve. Glass Menagerie was a psychedelic/progressive group from Manchester, active in 1966-1970 and responsible for five decent singles. However, the band came across far better during the superb radio sessions that are, as it were, the quintessence of late psychedelia and early progressive rock in the style of Spooky Tooth, Procol Harum, or very early Deep Purple (with Evans and Simper)! This album sounds like a never-released, forgotten, top-shelf rock classic! The tracks, recorded only in the studio, contain almost no announcements, and the sound quality is almost ideal! To a large extent it is different material from that contained on the compilation CD. After the band split, the excellent guitarist Alan Kendall moved to Toe Fat (and a few years later 'gained fame and fortune' in the Bee Gees), the vocalist/keyboard player Lou Stonebridge founded Paladin, and the drummer Bill Atkinson played (as Harrison) in Mogul Thrash. Much more information about the band can be found in my book "Brytyjski rock w latach 1961-1979 (G-J)". ATTENTION! All the recordings sound better, or decidedly better, than the YouTube versions (links below), and the tape speed has also been corrected. The vinyl pressing is simply excellent (no hiss whatsoever) and I am sure that every fan of old rock playing with Hammond organ will be delighted with this LP! A must! Condition: MINT (NEW, unsealed). -

Glass Menagerie was a psychedelic/progressive group from Manchester, active in 1966-1970. The band released only five singles, which, together with a few recordings made for the BBC, were included on this very nice compilation. After the group split, the guitarist Alan Kendall moved to Toe Fat, the vocalist/keyboard player Lou Stonebridge appeared in Paladin, and the drummer Bill Harrison later played in Mogul Thrash. The Gods are a truly important and charming, though still underrated British band with Ken Hensley, Paul Newton and Lee Kerslake - all three of whom later appeared in Uriah Heep! To all intents and purposes this debut album (recorded at Abbey Road and released in the autumn of 1968 by EMI Columbia) could well have been made under that name... as a psychedelic debut! Lots of Hammonds, nice guitars, Hensley's familiar vocals, quite a strong sound (Vanilla Fudge/Cream/Beatles), and at the same time plenty of thoroughbred, psychedelic moods straight out of "Sgt. Pepper", "Shades Of Deep Purple" or "Odessey And Oracle". All the recordings are interspersed with short sound collages that the musicians of Pink Floyd would not have been ashamed of! Well, it is worth discovering this album anew! -

A great album and unfortunately very underrated - even despite the fact that the vinyl was once released by CBS! Female vocals (in the style of Affinity/Room), lots of flute, nice, slightly sharp guitar, a dark and somewhat Oriental mood. A combination of the style of Fusion Orchestra, Room and Jethro Tull, with a pinch of East Of Eden. Highly recommended! -

A European, remastered edition from the Ethelion label of the third album in the discography (though recorded in May 1971 - at the very start of the sessions for the second LP "Camembert Electrique"), being a recording of the soundtrack to a film about motorcycle racing, released only in France. Gong are of course the legendary, psych-progressive, French-British band led by the eccentric Daevid Allen. In my humble opinion (at the moment) it is this band's best album; perhaps not as refined as the brilliant 'Camembert', but certainly more 'rock' and played almost entirely seriously. The catalogue record is filled almost exclusively with expansive (3 times 9-11 minutes + 4 minutes of sound collage), somewhat cosmic, guitar improvisations based on a hypnotic bass line and heavily driving, though often jazzy, drumming. This is a template of how the transition from late psychedelia to early prog rock should sound! Zero synthesisers and little vocals! As a bonus a 13-minute, unique, live version of the excellent "Blues For Findlay", from the album, has been added. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! Condition: NEW, SEALED. (JL) -
