A famous album, originally a double, released in 1969. "Streetnoise" is a wonderful item - perhaps the best in Brian Auger's discography. In my book about British rock the record received the maximum score of 10 points. Plenty of varied moods based on the sound of the Hammond organ, a great rhythm section, and the charming vocals of Julie Driscoll: from psychedelia, through jazzy, almost club moods - to juicy, almost progressive rock. A Japanese, limited edition from Polydor, from 2021. Highly recommended! (JL) -

Recommended. -

Released in 1973, the second (as it turned out years later...) album by this British band, containing very dynamic, Purple-and-Heep-like hard rock (guitar + organ), with clearly progressive touches (including the 9-minute "St. John's") and of the best kind. "Changing My Ways", on the other hand, at times reminiscent of "Highway Star", is a hard-rock classic! A remastered 2021 edition, in a digipak, with five previously unpublished bonus tracks. Well, everybody makes mistakes... In my book "British Rock" I wrote mistakenly (relying on several seemingly solid sources, such as Hans Pokora's books, or www.popsike.com) that the LP "Scruffy Duffy" (1973) was the debut of this British hard rock band, while this album is the 'second'... Years later it turned out that it was never released in the British Isles, but in Brazil and France (in 1974 and 1975), the album had come out in Germany as early as 1972... From the note on the back of this premiere CD it follows that I was not the only one who thought so... As for the music, the record was filled with a very attractive and fairly melodic mixture of style close to Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Free and Humble Pie (catchy compositions, plenty of organs, juicy guitars), though without virtuoso acrobatics. A very solid album that will genuinely please almost all lovers of heavy and fairly melodic playing from the early 70s. Recommended! -

A remastered and excellent-sounding vinyl edition of the supposedly solo album, recorded in 1970 and released in the UK by Warner Bros (or Metronome in Germany), by the former drummer of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (1966-1967), The Jeff Beck Group (1967) and of course the leader of his own band Retaliation (1967-1969). Recorded in a great line-up (including the guitarist Ivan Zagni - known from the debut of the band Jody Grind - and Paul Williams - the future vocalist of Juicy Lucy and Tempest), "Blue Whale" is superb, juicy progressive rock in the vein of Colosseum and Zappa from the LP "Hot Rats" - that is, based on numerous, improvised instrumental parts. The album may not have an attractive cover (quite the contrary), but the music is excellent! New, sealed. A MUST! (JL) -
