OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - 10000 Lepes +4 - Hungarian GrundRecords Remastered Expanded - LISTENprice: 85,00 PLN / 21,25 EUR
A remastered version from 2022. Released in 1969, a fantastic, second, Hungarian album containing above all 'Girl With Pearl Hair' but also several other killers, such as the title track, 'Tekozlo Fiuk' or 'Tuzvihar'. This mixture of late psychedelia/early progressive rock in the vein of Procol Harum and The Moody Blues, heavy rock in the style of Hendrix and folk ballad - all of it mixed with the addition of sharp Hungarian spices - was at the time world-class when it came to Eastern Rock! Compared with this album, the work of, say, Polish bands simply did not exist! A Hungarian remastered CD with excellent, perfectly fitting four bonus tracks from excellent singles. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - Ejszkai Orszagut +6 - Hungarian GrundRecords Expanded Edition - LISTENprice: 85,00 PLN / 21,25 EUR
In my opinion the third album, released in 1970 (English title: Nocturnal Road), was top-shelf European progressive playing, inspired by the work of Jethro Tull, King Crimson and Led Zeppelin but also by European classical music! It is a much darker album than the others, at times very heavy, almost Sabbath-like (the stunning second track), though also containing some of the most beautiful melodies in the band's career! It was the last title with Gabor Presser, who, together with the hitherto hard-hitting drummer, left to found Locomotiv GT! Additionally as many as 6 bonus tracks from Hungarian, English-language singles, that is half of the second album and Dead Are The Flowers! AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - Omega Red Star From Hungary - UK 1968 Decca Album - AUT Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Not counting the unofficial Hungarian CD released a few years ago by a 'pseudo-Universal' (and which is even mentioned on progarchives.com), this is the CD debut of a very good, though completely forgotten, second album by Omega, recorded by the band during their stay in London (May 1968) and released exclusively by British Decca. That is also why on the back of the sleeve of the vinyl edition of the LP 10 000 Lepes, released a year later, there was the mark: "No. 3"! This material, sung in English (with one exception), was a cross between the debut LP Trombitas Fredi and the already mentioned, genuinely excellent LP 10 000 Lepes, that is, a combination of psychedelic rock, budding prog rock, pop and folk with a dominant organ sound, catchy melodies and timid studio experiments with sound. If only the track Trumpeter Charlie (that is, the unfortunate, vaudeville Trombitas Fredi from the debut) were missing, the record would have gained even more class. In any case, it is a charming album that grows on you more with each listen. Oh, and on the record all the tracks were sung by the organist Gabor Presser, because Janos Kobor had to sit some exams in Hungary... It may be worth knowing that the original Decca Records vinyl, sold in only a few hundred copies, is worth 400 euros today (in perfect condition)! The CD sounds excellent - very spacious and clean! A must! -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - Beat (Rare Tracks 1966-1968) - Hungarian GrundRecords Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
A compilation of recordings from 1966–1968, that is the period just before the debut album 'Trombitas Fredi' (1968), and of course before the band worked out its own, psych-prog-rock sound in 1969. The remastered, Hungarian CD contains both Hungarian compositions and interpretations of the world hits of the day, including pieces by The Rolling Stones, The Hollies, The Spencer Davis Group, Tom Jones and Herman's Hermits. The material shows the group as an excellent beat band, drawing on British rock, rhythm & blues and soul, but already revealing its own character. János Kóbor's characteristic singing, melodic guitar and organ parts and youthful energy give these recordings an exceptional character. A MUST! -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - Elo Omega (Original 1972 Album Version) +6 - AUT Enigmatic Remastered & Expanded - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
This is the best album Omega ever recorded and (in my humble opinion) perhaps the best record from Eastern Europe?! At last someone has come to their senses and reissued on CD the fourth in the Hungarian discography, supposedly live record, released in 1972 in an aluminium (!) cover, which was made mainly in the studio, as well as during 'live' performances. The problem is that to all the tracks were added applause, at moments artificial-sounding (e.g. appearing suddenly), or cries from the audience. Personally I really like these shouts and know them almost by heart, and the LP itself is an exemplary case of how heavy, but melodic progressive rock should be played! Years later a clean version, without the audience noise but rather metallically compressed, was released on CD under the title '200 Evvel Az Utolso Haboru Utan' (1998). This one, however, is a remastered and greatly improved edition of the original vinyl release from 1972. It is worth knowing that even the first CD edition of Elo Omega (in a grey cover with red lettering) contained a changed, compressed mix from 1980 (known from the 5-record vinyl box set). So this ORIGINAL VERSION HAS BEEN RELEASED ON CD FOR THE FIRST TIME! In addition 2 brand new tracks from the 'studio' CD, 4 tracks from singles of the time and several nice photos from the original vinyl editions (including the Czech Supraphon) are included. The whole thing now sounds very dynamic and miles better than ever, although slight hiss is still audible. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! -
CD
OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA – Élő Omega – Kisstadion ’77 (2CD) - HUN Remastered Editionprice: 130,00 PLN / 32,50 EUR
An exceptional document of one of Omega's most important concerts in its classic line-up. The two-disc release presents for the first time the complete recording of the performance at Budapest's Kisstadion, showing the band at the peak of its artistic powers. The concert programme is based mainly on material from the albums "Nem tudom a neved" and "Időrabló", enriched with earlier compositions and the English-language track "Family Strong". On stage Omega impresses with extended parts for organ, Moog synthesisers and mellotron, striking guitar solos and the compact, dynamic playing of the rhythm section. Particular attention is drawn by the extended versions of "A Névtelen Utazó", the suite "Időrabló", "Éjféli Koncert" and the striking instrumental showpieces titled "Szintetizátormutatványok", which are a demonstration of László Benkő's abilities. The recording captures the atmosphere of Omega's concerts of the second half of the seventies, when the group was among the biggest rock stars in Central and Eastern Europe. The remastered sound preserves the authentic character of the archival material, while offering much better quality than earlier sources. -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - Csillagok Utjan (Omega VIII) - GrundRecords Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
A Hungarian 2022 edition. Recorded in Hungary, "Csillagok Utján" is among Omega's most valued albums of the second half of the seventies and forms a bridge between the monumental Időrabló and the groundbreaking Gammapolis. The band develops here its characteristic symphonic-progressive sound, enriching it with even more extended synthesiser parts and subtle electronic textures. The record captivates with a coherent atmosphere, rich arrangements and a skilful combination of melodiousness with progressive sweep. -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - X - Az Arc +5 - Hungarian Grund Records Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
A remastered Hungarian CD from 2022. Released in 1981, the tenth, Hungarian album was a considerable and rather unpleasant surprise for Omega fans because it was characterised by a modern, electronic sound, where synthesisers and extended keyboard parts played as important a role as guitars. The album in part still retained a progressive, hard rock character, but at the same time contained more compact and accessible compositions than those on earlier records. On the other hand the music is anyway miles better than that nightmarish, off-putting sleeve... Additionally 5 live bonus tracks are included, presenting Omega's best-known pieces in 'live' versions. Worth the risk! -
CD
OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - XI +4- Hungarian GrundRecords Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
A remastered Hungarian 2022 edition. Made in 1982, the band's eleventh studio album came about in a period when the band's classic progressive sound was replaced by modern production and elements characteristic of ambitious new wave/rock of the early eighties, especially the dehumanised style of The Stranglers. A remastered edition with 4 bonus tracks (three archival live recordings and one rare single). -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA – Omega (1st German Album) (LP) - GER MIG Press - LISTENprice: 120,00 PLN / 30,00 EUR
The English-language debut released by German Bellaphon in 1973 (reissued in 2022 by the German MIG: Made In Germany) and made up of compositions earlier released on 'Elo Omega' and '5', including the brilliant 'After A Hard Year' and 'White Magic Stone'. The record opened the way to the West European market for the band. The musicians successfully combined the melodiousness and hard rock dynamics characteristic of earlier records with a more mature, more progressive sound, enriched with Hammond organ, mellotron and Moog synthesisers. A German, limited reissue on 180 g vinyl. A must! (JL) -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - III (German 3rd Album) - German MIG Press - LISTENprice: 120,00 PLN / 30,00 EUR
A German 2022 edition. A great, third, West German, English-language album recorded in an excellent studio under the eye of the experienced producer Peter Hauke (Nektar, Grobschnitt, Message) and released by Bellaphon in autumn 1974. Most of the compositions used (in new versions) on the record came from the albums: 'Elo Omega' and '5'. Highly recommended! -

A remastered, German 2022 edition. Released in Germany by Bellaphon in 1974, the second, English-language album is among Omega's most outstanding achievements of the seventies and is one of the important achievements of European progressive rock. The band moves away here from its psychedelic roots in favour of monumental, multi-part compositions based on extended parts for Hammond organ, Moog, mellotron and melodic guitar playing. The centrepiece of the album is the nearly twenty-minute "Suite" – an impressive suite of symphonic sweep, smoothly combining atmospheric passages with more dynamic and instrumental ones. A limited edition on 180 g vinyl. A must! -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA – Babylon + The Dark Side Of The Earth (+6) - GrundRecords Remastered Editionprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
Babylon is Omega's 13th Hungarian-language studio album, recorded in 1987 in the band's studio, and particularly interesting is the second part of the release – six English-language recordings from the project The Dark Side Of The Earth, which was never officially released at the time as a full album. These are English versions of tracks from Omega's repertoire, recorded in 1986–1987. -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA – KonceRt. [Népstadion, 1999] (2CD) - GrundRecords Remastered Editionprice: 140,00 PLN / 35,00 EUR
This is a recording of Omega's second big concert at Budapest's Népstadion, which took place on 4 September 1999. The programme was based above all on tracks from the band's hard rock period, but there were also classic compositions from earlier records and an extended passage from "Szvit". -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA – Táncdalfesztivál – Kíséri az Omega együttes +6 - GrundRecords Remastered Editionprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
It is not an Omega album in the classic sense – the band appears above all as a group accompanying popular Hungarian male and female vocalists, and a particularly tasty curiosity is "Yellow Submarine" performed by Péter Kozák – Omega thus gained the opportunity to play material inspired by Western beat music. The record also includes six previously unreleased recordings, marked on the sleeve with an asterisk. -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA – The Beaty Sixties - GrundRecords Remastered Digipack Editionprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
The title "The Beaty Sixties" is a little misleading, because not all the recordings come from the 60s. The set also includes English versions of tracks recorded in the early 70s, including material related to the albums Omega III (1974) and 200 Years After the Last War (1974). -
CD
OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA – Time Robber (1976) + Skyrover (1978) (2CD) - GER MIG Music Edition - LISTENprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
A 2CD collecting two somewhat later, but probably the most important, English-language albums by Omega from the period of its (relatively) greatest international successes. It is worth knowing that in 1975-1978 the band's records came out not only in Germany, but also in Britain, in several European countries and in North America! "Time Robber" (1976) was characterised by the mighty sound of Moog synthesisers and mellotron and striking guitar parts, which gave the music a monumental, almost symphonic character. "Skyrover" (1978) develops this style, offering more compact compositions, while retaining the space, melodiousness and cosmic atmosphere characteristic of the band. The distinct keyboard parts, dynamic rhythm section and expressive singing of János Kóbor created a coherent whole. Highly recommended! (JL) -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - 5 +2 - Hungarian GrundRecords Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
A Hungarian edition, remastered in 2022, of the excellent fifth album released by Pepita in 1973. The centrepiece of the record is the nearly 20-minute 'Suite' – an impressive suite of symphonic sweep, smoothly combining atmospheric passages with more dynamic and instrumental ones. Additionally 2 rare recordings are included. A MUST! (JL) -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - Hall Of Floaters In The Sky (German 4th Album) - AUT Enigmatic Remastered Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Remastered edition of the fourth European album, released in its day (1975) by West German Bellaphon, as well as by British Decca! No Eastern Bloc band could boast a comparable achievement! The English-language record, adorned with an attractive cover, contained tracks known (in other versions) from the earlier three Hungarian albums and, as is usual for Omega, impressed with a powerful, juicily produced ('wall of sound') dose of progressive rock with heavier elements. On the other hand, you could hear that the group was increasingly heading towards more intricate regions of symphonic rock. It is just a pity that no bonus tracks were added to the CD. Highly recommended!
