C.C. is of course the keyboardist of Ten Years After! What a pity that Alvin Lee did not include Chick's compositions on TYA albums! I wrote about this genuinely charming album in the book "Brytyjski Rock" and although I gave it a fairly high rating then, I now like this progressive, elegant and genuinely 'catchy' record even more! The incredible line-up certainly did the music no harm - just look! Among others Martin Barre, Cozy Powell, Leo Lyons, Bernie Marsden and the vocalist of the group Wild Turkey, whom I like very much (appearing on almost all the tracks)! In fact it is to the output of WT (as well as Wishbone Ash and Procol Harum of the time) that Churchill's music harks back to the greatest degree. I assure you that the LP "You & Me", released in a rather unattractive cover, has no filler whatsoever! Certain shortcomings of the artwork are compensated for by the excellent, clean sound quality! A MUST! New, sealed. -

A European edition, remastered and extended by four tracks (from 1968), of the excellent and unfortunately only album, released in 1969, by a British progressive band led by the wind player Mel Collins - soon afterwards lured away from the band by Robert Fripp to King Crimson! Typically progressive playing with jazz influences and a few short ballads. The album contains, among other things, an absolutely stunning, almost heavy-rock, eight-minute version of "Norwegian Wood" by The Beatles and a brilliant rework of a jazz classic by Charles Mingus - one of my favourite progressive tracks 'ever'! This is the best-sounding CD version of this title! A must! -

The first anthology by an Italian band with a female vocalist in the style of Earth & Fire. The band now has cult status, but during its existence it had difficulty finding an audience, which may have stemmed from the English lyrics, and also from the fact that the Italian scene was dominated by keyboard-based music, while the basis of Circus 2000's work was the guitar. The set contains both albums, "Circus 2000" from 1970 and "An Escape From A Box" from 1972, as well as nine single tracks and two previously unreleased compositions that were to appear on the third album. The whole thing comes in a gatefold digipak, with an attractive booklet with many rare photos. Highly recommended! (MU) -

A second, equally successful album from 1976 - one of the more underrated records of the French progressive scene of the 70s. Forever Blowing Bubbles is a fully instrumental, very vivid and "cosmic" journey that stands somewhere between progressive rock and illustrative music. The sound is based mainly on keyboards – synthesizers and mellotron – which create dense, at times almost cinematic soundscapes. ONLY ONE COPY! New, sealed. -

"Impressionist Symphony" (2014) is a project by Cyrille Verdeaux, creator known for his work under the Clearlight banner, which combines progressive rock with influences of classical music. The album was created as a concept inspired by impressionism and the work of composers such as Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. The material was recorded with the participation of many musicians from different countries, keyboard instruments, synthesisers and piano parts dominate here, supplemented by guitars and symphonic elements. An absolute classic of European progressive playing from the early 70s! The debut by this Slovak formation (led by the excellent organist Marian Varga) was inspired by the work of composers of classical music, as well as the output of The Nice and Procol Harum! The catalogue album was filled with three heavily extended tracks, averaging 13 minutes each; besides that, two tracks from the debut 13-minute EP (from 1970) were customarily added to the contents of the debut, as well as an alternative version, PREMIERED on CD, of the brilliant "Hommage a J.S. Released at the end of 1971 (on double vinyl), the second album by the progressive Slovak formation. Now playing with an electric guitarist, the band presented four 20-minute suites; three excellent ones and the last on the record, "Euphonia", rather playing the role of filler. Without a doubt the album belongs to the strict canon of European prog rock and will delight all lovers of playing in the vein of ELP, Procol Harum, Egg or Rare Bird. Highly recommended! (JL) -

The live album recorded in March 1971 and released on double vinyl has now been expanded with unreleased material from the same tour, including a spectacular, 22-minute version of Valentyne Suite and many other wonders! Even if you own the previous version of this jazzy, progressive masterpiece, these additional 70 minutes on the second disc undoubtedly justify buying it again! A MUST! -

A limited, great 80-minute CD containing a 50-minute show by the band, from August 1970 (with very good sound quality - practically equal to the Boston tape from 1969) and two never-released radio sessions. The concert was recorded for Finnish radio at a rock festival in a rather unique, because short-lived (probably my favourite) line-up - with Clempson on vocals. The setlist is very interesting, as are the two BBC radio sessions from 1969 and 1970 included. The 1970 one sounds rather average, but e.g. the 10-minute, veeery extended (compared with the nondescript record version) track "Daughter Of Time" is the most fascinating Colosseum I have heard in my life! Listening to the ultra-dynamic acceleration halfway through the recording, even despite the poor sound quality, I simply got goosebumps. That is the power of music! The 1969 session (still with James Litherland - later leader of Mogul Thrash) sounds quite good and contains, among other things, an early, still incomplete version of "Valentyne Suite". It is an excellent complement to the CD "Live In Boston", adored by fans! A must! (JL) -

The live album The Reunion Concerts 1994 documents the return to the stage of the legendary British group Colosseum after more than twenty years since the band's break-up. The recordings come mainly from the concert at the E-Werk in Cologne on 28 October 1994 and from the Zelt-Musik-Festival in Freiburg. On the two CDs the band presents a cross-section of its most important compositions. Classics appear such as "Those About to Die", "Theme for an Imaginary Western", "The Machine Demands Another Sacrifice" and the finale "Walking in the Park". The combination of rock, jazz and blues characteristic of Colosseum still sounds fresh, especially as there are also virtuoso improvisational passages. The release also comes with a DVD with a recording of the whole concert from Cologne. Despite the passing of years the musicians play with the energy and freedom that were always Colosseum's trademark. -
