A superb sixth album by the band, from 1972. Probably the most varied and spacious in their discography (with lots of Mellotron, among other things!). It is also one of my two or three favourite records by this heavy progressive blues band, still underrated in our country! Remastered 2022 edition on blue vinyl, limited to a thousand copies. Plus a SUPERB, long-awaited concert recorded by the band for the BBC on 7 December 1972. A MUST! (JL) -

GYPSY (USA) - GYPSY - In The Garden - US Sundazed PURPLE VINYL Press - LISTENprice: 175,00 PLN / 43,75 EUR

HAINES, NORMAN -BAND- (see also: Locomotive) - NORMAN HAINES BAND - Den Of Iniquity +2 - EU Ethelion Expanded Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
A heavy-progressive, British, forgotten rock classic in a great-sounding and beautifully presented edition from the Ethelion label! Originally released in 1971 by EMI Parlophone, this title is a superb, strictly progressive, though not heavy-free album, based on the all-pervading Hammond organ sound of the band's leader - formerly the vocalist and keyboard player of Locomotive. The 13-minute, improvised, galloping "Rabbits" is worth every penny. At the time most shops did not want to stock the album because of its rather blasphemous cover, which is why today the original British vinyl goes twice a year on eBay for 2000 euros! Additionally two tracks from rare singles (listed only on the vinyl label). New, sealed. A MUST! (JL) -

HAMMEL, PAVOL & VARGA, MARIAN (see also: Collegium Musicum / Prudy) - PAVOL HAMMEL & MARIAN VARGA - Zelena posta - SLO Opus Press - LISTENprice: 120,00 PLN / 30,00 EUR
"Meanwhile, back in May, the classic LP Zelená Pošta was recorded, credited, to be sure, to Pavol Hammel & Marián Varga and released by Opus in a nice gatefold sleeve in the autumn of 1972. On a second glance it was the third studio LP by the group Collegium Musicum (in the line-up Varga/Frešo/Hájek + Rastislav Vacho on guitar, present on the debut) with the more than guest participation of the vocalist, who sings on almost all the recordings and is also the composer of three tracks (out of ten - including two together with the keyboard player). On the album, I think on three pieces, the outstanding guitarist Radim Hladik of Blue Effect also played, and I am sure everyone will hear the difference between his cosmic playing and the struggles with the instrument of the just-mentioned Vacho... As one might have guessed, however, it was not the typical, expansive, classic-quoting and fully progressive Collegium Musicum known from Konvergencie, but rather an ambitious and very varied recital by pals making music, consisting of short, though often complicated, but also balladic pieces - who knows whether closer to the records of Hammel and Prúdy than to those of his friends/competitors. Side A opened with the mere one-minute Domáca Úloha - an orchestral piece with short, striking piano entries, written, it is said, ten years earlier by the 15-year-old Varga! By contrast, the mere 3-and-a-half-minute Z Ďatelín was a sentimental, elegant ballad superbly sung by Hammel accompanied by piano, Hammond organ and delicate strings. The third on the record, the strongly driving Tenis was an almost rhythm'n'blues, dynamic piece in the style of the early 60s, garnished with a conservative guitar solo by (probably) Vacho, playing chords. Then came the as much as 5-and-a-half-minute and, in my opinion, excellent Smutná Ranná Električka - a slightly bluesy, rhythmic piece superbly interpreted by the vocalist, who also has acting skills, and adorned with a fast, feisty and quite long solo by (certainly) Hladík! The first part was closed by Krajina Bielych Dievčat, written solely by Hammel, recorded with percussion instruments, rhythmically broken and at the same time strongly swinging - a breathy, quite hypnotic, 7-minute piece characterised by slightly distorted vocals and almost psychedelic organ parts. The second side was opened by another, quite expansive piece, the 6-minute, excellent Páví Ples - composed by both musicians, full of changing moods, sung with class and at moments almost a clone of Emerson, Lake & Palmer of that time. Then came Cesty Bláznov, played largely in 9/8 metre, very weird - a great, truly progressive piece adorned with a very Frippian, twisted solo by the Blue Effect guitarist! The album really picked up here! The under-2-minute Nechtiac was a quasi-symphonic, organ-and-orchestra miniature enriched by a delicate voice, and after it came the excellent, ballad-rock Slnečnice - a distinguished, again somewhat Emerson-like piece based on a slightly broken rhythm, an organ backdrop, occasional punctuating brass fanfares and garnished with an excellent guitar solo. The record was closed by the 7-minute, decidedly progressive Pošta, composed by Varga and Hammel and consisting, as it were, of two parts - in the first half summing up, as it were, the earlier, more ambitious moods, and after a short break returning with a slightly distorted, instrumental, polyphonic main theme from the track Zvonky, Zvoňte which opened Prúdy's debut. One really wanted Hammel to intone those words again..." A REVIEW BY JACEK LEŚNIEWSKI FROM A BOOK ON ROCK IN THE FORMER EASTERN BLOC, BEGUN BUT ABANDONED AFTER HALF A YEAR (2021). 2017 reissue, in a gatefold sleeve, sealed. -

HANNIBAL - HANNIBAL - Hannibal - EU Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
Yet another forgotten British progressive band with a single, entirely captivating album to its name. Long compositions, wonderful, slightly jazzy guitar parts, almost ubiquitous Hammond organ resonating in the background and a generally palpable bluesy-jazzy, airy mood. An album kept in the style of Heaven, Walrus, If, and even early Jethro Tull - at their best moments. It is an absolutely obligatory item for every lover of British, progressive playing! Recommended! -

HAPPENINGS FOUR (see also: Kuni Kawachi) - HAPPENINGS FOUR + 1 - Long Trip - FRA Absinthe Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
An excellent, unfortunately almost completely unknown outside Japan, top-shelf rock classic! The fourth (and last), without doubt the best album by the Japanese soft-progressive (earlier pop-psychedelic) band with the organist Kunio Kawachi in the line-up. This LP, released in 1971 by Capitol, contained a much more serious, more mature, richly arranged and genuinely gripping mixture of psychedelia and early progressive rock with Kawachi's organ (known, among other things, from the superb LP "Kirikyogen" recorded in 1970 with the future musicians of Flower Travellin' Band) and the guitar of Kimio Mizutani (who from a session musician turned into the "+1" in the band's name) in the leading roles. This gloomy album, devoted to the themes of transience and death, but very elegant and full of class (sung in Japanese), brings to mind the work of early Procol Harum combined with The Zombies (from the "Odessey And Oracle" period). I confess that a few years ago there was a moment when, after buying the vinyl, I listened to this title for 2-3 weeks, and the longer I listened to it the less I could tear myself away from it! The 10-minute "Death" included in the YouTube link (poor-sounding...) is an absolute masterpiece of psych-progressive rock, though there are really no weak moments on the record! New, sealed. An absolute must! (JL) -

HARD MEAT - HARD MEAT - Hard Meat - GER Long Hair Press - LISTENprice: 160,00 PLN / 40,00 EUR
The debut album by a British band playing very subtle, though as a rule quite dynamic, progressive, guitar-and-organ tracks with acoustic touches. The Brits mixed all kinds of genres: rock, folk, blues and psychedelia and wonderful things came out of it! Melodic compositions, sometimes reaching ten minutes - as a rule, however, much shorter. The band's music brings to mind The Strawbs (with sharp guitar), the Danish Culpeper's Orchard, Jethro Tull, CSN&Y and late The Beatles. German edition in a gatefold sleeve. A MUST! (JL) -
LP
HARD MEAT - HARD MEAT - Rain - SPA Sommor Pressprice: 150,00 PLN / 37,50 EUR
The first record made by the band, in 1969 for Island Records, but then rejected and never released. Only two tracks released on a single saw the light of day, including a cover of The Beatles' "Rain". The rest first appeared in 2022 on the three-disc box set "Space Between". Now the whole album is finally on vinyl! -

HARTLEY, KEEF -BAND- (see also: John Mayall / Artwoods / Uriah Heep / Dog Soldier / Hemlock) - KEEF HARTLEY BAND - BBC Live In Concert (November 1970 - March 1971) - UK Maida Vale / Verne Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
The drummer Keef Hartley replaced Ringo Starr in Rory Storm & The Hurricanes (when the latter left for The Beatles), then played in The Artwoods, then in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and finally in 1968 founded his own band, to which he invited excellent musicians and the brass section of the aforementioned Mayall. This excellent LP, lasting 53 minutes and released in 500 copies, contains two live performances by the band - from November 1970 and March 1971 - made for a small audience gathered in a BBC radio studio. It is the best Keef Hartley Band one can imagine - especially the 25-minute "Medley" filling the whole first side - recorded with only five people, without a large brass section. Progressive, jazzy, powerful-sounding playing - much better than the music on the catalogue "Little Big Band"! The sound quality is excellent (Side 1) or almost ideal (Side 2), and the pressing perfect! All of the material appeared earlier on the sold-out, double LP "Live At The BBC 1969-1971". For CD lovers I recommend the similarly compiled CD "British Radio Sessions", expanded by nearly 30 minutes! A MUST! NEW, SEALED. -

HARTLEY, KEEF -BAND- (see also: John Mayall / Artwoods / Uriah Heep / Dog Soldier / Hemlock) - KEEF HARTLEY BAND - Time Is Near - IRL Rabbit Hall Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 100,00 PLN / 25,00 EUR
An Irish edition of the excellent, third album by the blues-jazz-progressive band with Miller Anderson on guitar and Gary Thain on bass. The record features the brass section of the band Galliard - which can be heard especially on tracks 4 and 5... Highly recommended! -
LP
HAWKWIND - HAWKWIND - Greasy Truckers Party - Live At The Roundhouse, February 1972 - Atos / Verne Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
A superb vinyl limited to 500 copies containing a 60-minute (leaving out insignificant fragments such as a failed intro due to a power cut, or the long, final ovation) almost complete Hawkwind show, from February 1972 (recorded just after the release of the second LP "In Search Of Space") - already with Lemmy on bass and originally released in a 20-minute fragment (alongside recordings by Man and Brinsley Schwarz) on the compilation LP "Greasy Truckers Party". The band's music is simply fantastic - in my opinion even more magical and psychedelic (and better recorded) than on the famous "Space Ritual" (10 months later). Years later the whole 67-minute show came out on a triple CD (together with recordings by Man and Brinsley Schwarz) from EMI. The excellently pressed, black vinyl sounds excellent, and the laminated sleeve is in no way inferior! A must! NEW, SEALED. -
LP
HAWKWIND - HAWKWIND - Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music - UK 180g Remastered Press - LISTENprice: 120,00 PLN / 30,00 EUR
The band's seventh album. Recorded not long after the legendary "Warrior On The Edge Of Time" (already without Lemmy) and although kept in a somewhat less psychedelic (and more concise) mood, it was still old, classic Hawkwind. Highly recommended! -

HENRY COW (see also: Slapp Happy) - HENRY COW - Leg End - UK Press - LISTENprice: 115,00 PLN / 28,75 EUR
An experimental band led by the guitarist Fred Frith. Heavily twisted music (especially on the later records), created under the influence of classical composers and the work of bands such as Soft Machine and King Crimson. The debut album, from 1973, earlier also appearing under the titles "The Henry Cow Legend", "Henry Cow" and "Legend". -

HERO - HERO - Hero - ITA Press - LISTENprice: 130,00 PLN / 32,50 EUR
Italian reissue, from 2013, of the only album, released in its day only in Germany by the label Pan, by an Italian, progressive formation. The interplay of organ and guitar dominates. If I had to make a comparison, perhaps a combination of the more economical Museo Rosenbach with old Genesis? Highly recommended! Sleeve: M- / Record: M -

HOKUS POKE - HOKUS POKE - Earth Harmony - SPA Sommor Press - LISTENprice: 160,00 PLN / 40,00 EUR
A very good, unfortunately only album by a completely forgotten, British band playing guitar-driven, progressive rock in the style of Wishbone Ash, Northwind and Home. Recorded at George Martin's studios, the album appeared at the beginning of 1972 on the (today) cult label Vertigo - unfortunately nobody bought it at the time. A 2022 reissue.
