A five-disc box set containing the albums: Strikes (1979), Tomcattin' (1980), Marauder (1981), Siogo (1983), Vertical Smiles (1984). The strongest part is decidedly the first three records: Strikes, Tomcattin' and Marauder – this is Blackfoot's peak period and a great example of American Southern rock with a strong hard rock character. Siogo and Vertical Smiles show the band's later evolution, although they are already weaker than the first three. -

Released by Polydor Records in December 1971, a classic and in my opinion excellent album by a Danish progressive band with a full sound based on Hammond organ and juicy guitar sounds, complemented by flute parts and a strong rhythm section. The band as a rule went for compact forms and catchy melodies, though it often switched surprisingly abruptly (changing tempo in passing) between acoustic passages and heavier, organ-and-guitar improvisations. An example is the great overdriven guitar solo coming in suddenly in the first track... The exceptions to the rule were 2 short passages based on a soporific piano backing and a mournful vocal part. Although inspirations from British bands such as Jethro Tull (please listen to the splendid second track), Atomic Rooster, Traffic or Caravan were clearly audible, Blast Furnace's music nevertheless retained its own character. Unfortunately, the album was not a commercial success (the original vinyl in perfect condition sells for 1000 euros), but over time gained the status of one of the most interesting and most sought-after Danish progressive albums of the early seventies. After the band's break-up, two of its musicians joined the band Culpeper's Orchard. Additionally, the A-side of a rare single from 1971 is included as a bonus. A five-disc set being the first part of an anthology of the band responsible for probably the best single in the history of the NWOBHM - "Buried Alive / Blitzkrieg". The first CD contains the debut album "A Time Of Changes" from 1985, and as bonuses, the aforementioned single, the brilliant "Inferno" from the cult Neat Records compilation "Lead Weight" and three demo tracks from 1980. CD2 is a concert from 1981 once released only on cassette - "Blitzed Alive!" - and nine tracks from various sessions from 1980-1981. The last three discs are studio albums: "Unholy Trinity" from 1995 (which includes a cover of Venom's "Countess Bathory" recorded with Cronos), "Ten" from 1996 and "Mists Of Avalon" from 1998. Superb, limited to 500 copies, wonderfully recorded, 80-minute CD containing all the very good quality recordings available on the market made for BBC radio (by the excellent, British, progressive formation led by Jethro Tull's first guitarist) in 1969-1974. On the tracks from the 1974 reunion (including a 30-minute, excellent live performance for a small audience) the drummer was Clive Bunker, known from Jethro Tull! ATTENTION! 10 brand new compositions (6 from 1974) did not appear on records, so one could almost say that a third, unrecorded album is contained here: live/studio from 1974! On two tracks by the group Blodwyn, Peter Banks, known from early Yes, played guitar! This CD beats hands down the long out-of-print (and on closer inspection somewhat deceptive, since it contains several tracks from the 90s) CD 'Basement Tapes'. That is a completely different conversation! Great sound quality - the two recordings available on YouTube are of worse quality than on the CD! A MUST! (JL) -

LAST COPIES! Blodwyn Pig is an excellent, British progressive (jazzy-bluesy) formation led by Mick Abrahams - the first guitarist of Jethro Tull. This superb double vinyl, limited to 500 copies, of nearly 120 minutes (modelled almost 100% on the old release from the label Chrysalis) contains almost all the very good quality recordings available on the market made for BBC radio in 1969-1974. In addition 35 live recordings made somewhere in the British Isles in 1970 are included. On the tracks from the 1974 reunion (including the 30-minute, excellent live performance for a small audience) the drummer was Clive Bunker, known from Jethro Tull! ATTENTION! Ten brand new compositions (six from 1974) did not appear on records, so one could almost say that a third, unrecorded album is contained here: live/studio from 1974! On two tracks by the group Peter Banks, known from early Yes, played guitar! Great sound quality (the 1970 concert slightly worse)! Inside the gatefold sleeve there are old articles from the late 60s! Plenty of interesting reading and several nice photos! A MUST! -

The first three or four Blood, Sweat And Tears records are absolute classics today, and the LP "New Blood" was not much weaker. All the CDs are issued as individual card sleeves. The last two catalogue records by a legend of American heavy playing! The LP "Passage", released in 1972, is a slab of almost progressive (Hammond, Moog, flute) and very competent playing - resembling a little the earliest, but somewhat heavier, work of Kansas. This CD is worth having for this album alone! The later "Whirlwind Tongues" contained simple, somewhat heavy rock - nothing worth attention. Even so I highly recommend it to all lovers of the earlier five Bloodrock albums! -

Blue Effect (later Modry Efekt) is probably the best Czech group - with the great, not to say frenzied, guitarist Radim Hladik. This outstanding, progressive album without a doubt belongs to the TOP FIVE OF ROCK FROM THE EASTERN BLOC! Recorded in 1969 and 1970, the vinyl "Kingdom Of Life" was prepared with a view to sale on the market of the Eastern Bloc countries. In fact it was the debut LP "Meditace" (1970), with the difference that four tracks from the first side originally sung in Czech (included among the bonus tracks - alongside 6 tracks from singles) were replaced with the English words of a new vocalist and an alternative cover. A combination of the style of Jethro Tull, Ten Years After, Led Zeppelin and The Moody Blues. Why were such records not made here?!? This 80-minute CD includes all the recordings from the band's early psych-progressive period, which already in 1970 went off into slightly more jazzy, equally exciting regions. An absolute must! Nicely presented, 9-disc box set containing all 8 catalogue albums from 1969-1981 and an additional CD with single tracks and rarities. I do not know why the box bears the date 1989 - probably the band broke up then. Practically all the titles can be recommended - including the last, surprisingly good albums! A chunk of excellent music! The box does not contain the export LP "Kingdom Of Life" (1971) - released separately in Italy. Highly recommended! -

Something like a more riff-driven Wizards From Kansas combined with Christopher - but with better guitars! Love is Here is an absolute rock classic! This very underrated record was released at the beginning of 1970 by the label Atco. Plus a track from a single. Highly recommended! -

A revelation! Released in the summer of 1971, the second album by this great Japanese band is a splendid combination of the style of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, at times pushed almost to the extreme - with elements of two lead guitars in the style of Wishbone Ash! Plenty of surprising, ultra-heavy riffs, plenty of changes of tempo and mood, exemplary, slightly bluesy playing by the guitarist and zero filler. The only, small flaw of this sensational album was the vocalist's not entirely convincing English... But who really cares? Alongside the first two records by Flower Travellin' Band, this is probably the most cult album in the history of Japanese heavy rock, and in the original on the Denon label (and in almost perfect condition) it is currently worth 1000 dollars! Additionally included is an 8-minute live version of "Nightmare" (different from the one on the CD "Live!"), previously unreleased on CD! A must! Condition: New, sealed. (JL)
