A six-disc set being the first part of an anthology by the Scottish absolute classics of the NWOBHM. The box contains the studio albums "Nightcomers" from 1981 and "No Man's Land" from 1984 and the live "Live (Hot Curry & Wine)" from 1983 (recorded on 10 September 1981 at the Nite club in Edinburgh) in two versions, one from the LP (on CD4) and the other from the video cassette "Live From The Raw Loud N' Live Tour" (on CD2). The set is completed by the compilation "Heavy Metal Mania" containing all the single tracks from 1980-1982, as well as the album "Steal The Stars" from 1983, recorded by the band Hologram, formed by the guitarist Ed Dudley after the split in Holocaust. The whole thing in a rigid box, with a 20-page booklet inside. Highly recommended! (MU) -

Released in an attractive, monochrome sleeve by CBS in November 1972, the LP Holy Mackerel contained a combination of American, folk-rock playing with much heavier, progressive atmospheres in the vein of early Wishbone Ash, Wild Turkey or Hokus Poke - as proven by, for instance, the brilliant, nearly 8-minute Spanish Attraction. For that splendid track alone it is worth having this CD, and that's not all... A certain problem of this, all in all very nice and at times downright great, album was its excessive variety, as it is hard to find two recordings similar to each other. It is worth knowing that this progressive, 'almost hard rock' group was formed by three former musicians of the excellent psychedelic band Jason Crest (1966-1969): vocalist Terry Clark, guitarist Derek Smallcombe and drummer Roger Siggery. In 1971 the excellent and underrated Clark appeared on the only album, made exclusively in the States, by the hard rock band Orang-Utan, while Smallcombe played on the heavy rock LP by the band Samuel Prody, also released in 1971, but only in Germany. Additionally included are a rare single B-side and 9 tracks from the second album, titled 'Closer To Heaven', recorded in 1973 but halted at the last moment (and released only in the 90s). A rare, limited, 80-minute CD gathering radio recordings by a British hard-progressive band in which Laurie Wisefield (from 1974 in Wishbone Ash) played guitar, while the bassist was Cliff Williams, known from AC/DC! The first part of the disc was filled by a nearly 30-minute show from 1972, while the rest of the CD was taken up by material played entirely live from the third album in the discography and without doubt the best of their career, 'The Alchemist'. Based on the sound of two guitars and resembling a combination of early Neil Young with Wishbone Ash, Home's heavily intricate music requires several listens at first, but then you cannot tear yourself away from it! Perfect sound quality. Highly recommended! -

Another fantastic and, above all, very well recorded release from the Swedish label Flawed Gems. The only, excellent and very absorbing album by the American group Homer was released a few years ago by Akarma and unfortunately sounded terrible. The Italians used a bootleg vinyl as their source, so the whole thing sounded dreadful - as if it were coming out of a shoebox. The Swedes remastered the album superbly (probably from the original vinyl, worth 0), though it still does not sound brilliant (at moments you can hear a slight hiss - present on the LP as well), because the material was originally released by a private micro-label with a zero budget. Either way, the Homer album contained a mighty dose of melodic, psychedelic and generally quite heavy rock for two lead guitars - at moments with slight folk/country influences but above all with strong touches of British progressive rock - with mellotron, with nice improvisations (though the tracks are not long) and with sudden changes of rhythm! A fantastic album, full of emotion and catchy melodies - with only two slightly weaker (though still nice) passages. An absolute must! -

A French black vinyl limited to 500 copies, lasting over 50 minutes, released in a beautiful, psychedelic, laminated sleeve, that is, the edition, awaited for many years, of the radio sessions (from 1967-1970) of an underrated British band, known above all for the big hit "I Can't Let Maggie Go" (1968), but also for charming, pop-baroque-rock tracks very close to the style of the late, McCartney-like The Beatles, The Zombies and Badfinger. This is a wonderful album, containing many compositions (including covers of recordings by other artists) not included on any of the band's official records (or singles)! ATTENTION! Unfortunately, exceptionally, I found nothing from the BBC archives on YouTube in very good quality (apart from versions recorded 50 years ago with a microphone from the radio), so the music files attached below contain the record/single versions. At the same time I assure you that the whole vinyl (pressed from remastered, unique, promotional BBC Transcription Service discs) sounds ideal! Condition: MINT, NEW, unsealed. (JL) -

A superb record! This British band accompanied Elton on his early (very successful) albums. Released in 1971, a truly great debut album based on the interplay of excellent guitar and a very solid rhythm section + occasional keyboards and harmonica. Very nice, invigorating playing combining the aesthetics of Wishbone Ash, Wild Turkey and Neil Young. The CD contains two bonuses from the same period, including the superb "Shoeshine Boy" - a 12-minute showcase of improvised, guitar playing and one of my favourite rock tracks! Very good sound! Highly recommended! -

TITLE OUT OF PRINT! LAST COPIES! An excellent, unfortunately forgotten band from England with a fantastic, heavy rock album to their name, released in 1970 by RCA Victor. Horse presented great, captivating and at the same time catchy compositions with a raw sound, based on catchy riffs, a strong vocal and a good rhythm section. This record can be listened to in one breath, as there is not a single filler on it! Drummer Rick Parnell later played in Atomic Rooster, while two other musicians founded the progressive band Saturnalia in 1972. Excellent, clean sound on black vinyl! A MUST! -

An excellent, unfortunately forgotten band from England with a fantastic, heavy-rock album to their name, recorded in the autumn of 1969, but released only in the summer of 1970 by RCA Victor. Horse presented great, captivating and at the same time catchy compositions with a raw sound, based on catchy riffs, strong vocals and a good rhythm section - not far from the work of Led Zeppelin and Andromeda. This record can be listened to in one breath, as it does not contain a single filler! The drummer Rick Parnell later played in Atomic Rooster and the Italian Ibis, while two other musicians founded the progressive Saturnalia in 1972. Additionally as many as nine very good (and lasting another 40 minutes) recordings made in 1969-1970 (several did not make it onto the album), from the band's archive, are included. An absolute MUST! -
