HOMER - Grown In U.S.A. - SWE Flawed Gems Edition - LISTEN - VERY RARE

Another fantastic and, above all, very well recorded release from the Swedish label Flawed Gems. The only, excellent and very absorbing album by the American group Homer was released a few years ago by Akarma and unfortunately sounded terrible. The Italians used a bootleg vinyl as their source, so the whole thing sounded dreadful - as if it were coming out of a shoebox. The Swedes remastered the album superbly (probably from the original vinyl, worth 0), though it still does not sound brilliant (at moments you can hear a slight hiss - present on the LP as well), because the material was originally released by a private micro-label with a zero budget. Either way, the Homer album contained a mighty dose of melodic, psychedelic and generally quite heavy rock for two lead guitars - at moments with slight folk/country influences but above all with strong touches of British progressive rock - with mellotron, with nice improvisations (though the tracks are not long) and with sudden changes of rhythm! A fantastic album, full of emotion and catchy melodies - with only two slightly weaker (though still nice) passages. An absolute must!
