Originally released in 1973 (curiously, initially outside Great Britain), the fifth album by a British, jazz-progressive formation. In my opinion it was the last genuinely progressive (that is, containing extended compositions with a lot of improvisation) and truly successful album by this excellent group! Recommended! -

A hard-rock classic! This British, little-known band played dynamic, uncompromising, heavy rock with minimal glam influences à la Slade, and also blues. The record is very even, containing perhaps two calmer tracks - otherwise guitar-driven blasting that is a combination of the sounds of Black Sabbath, early Nazareth and early UFO. Released in the British Isles by the small Dart Records, the album had a different cover in every country! A replica of the original CD from Repertoire Records. A must! -

A completely forgotten, sole album by an anonymous British band (the LP was released in 1973 exclusively in France - by EMI Columbia) playing very nice, melodic Beatles-like rock (acoustic/electric Harrison-style guitars) with elements of hard and progressive - something like Badfinger combined with a more dynamic Home, and at times even with the UFO of the time. Each side of the vinyl record was closed, meanwhile, by an excellent, progressive number with Mellotron! Very good production and zero boredom! Highly recommended! -

On CD for the first time! Third and fourth albums (both once released by Vertigo) by a British, folk-progressive formation led by Lee Jackson - the former vocalist and bassist of The Nice. Unlike Keith Emerson's band, JH's music was characterised by almost ballad-like, largely acoustic (sometimes folky, sometimes progressive) sounds built on acoustic guitars, keyboards (piano, mellotron) and percussion instruments. On both albums the drum parts were played by Michael Giles himself, and keyboards were played by Phil Collins's former colleague from Flaming Youth - Brian Chatton. -

Excellent material recorded at two concerts at the Norfolk Scope, in Hampton, on 22 April 1972 and 11 May 1973 - from the Thick As A Brick and A Passion Play tours respectively. The sound quality on this 75-minute, limited CD is very good, but not ideal. It is an almost professional audience recording. All the instruments are very clearly audible and the whole thing is listened to with genuine pleasure. The problem is that no perfect (radio/mixing desk) live recordings of the band from 1972-1973 exist. Recommended! (JL) -

A British progressive group founded by two former members of Quintessence: the vocalist and the guitarist. The album, released in 1973, at moments strongly resembled the style of Quintessence, although the music is less spiritual. At times you can hear influences of classic rock in the vein of The Faces. In addition two live recordings from the period, one unreleased studio recording from 1973 and two brand new tracks. -

Released in 1973, the third part of the so-called space trilogy. Besides the core of Paul Kantner, Grace Slick and David Freiberg, other members of Jefferson Airplane also took part in the recording: John Barbata, Jack Casady, Papa John Creach and Jorma Kaukonen, as well as David Crosby, Jerry Garcia, Mickey Hart, the group Pointer Sisters and Craig Chaquico (the future guitarist of Jefferson Starship). REVIEW FROM THE INTERNET: 'Baron von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun' is a very mature well produced yet a daring album that continues the Kantner space theme. Sharing the bill with Kantner and Slick is old folkie friend David Freiberg. They are joined by a group that reads like a who's who of the San Francisco psychedelic scene: drummers John Barbata (formerly of CSN&Y) and Mickey Hart (loaned out from the Grateful Dead), Jorma Kaukonen, legendary bassist Jack Casady, violinist Papa John Creech, the Pointer Sisters, David Crosby, Jack Traylor (a fellow psychedelic space rocker) and even Jerry Garcia himself. The entire album has a polished sound that has somewhat mystical theme layered on top of Kantner's visions of life in space. -
