An attractively packaged, limited compilation of rare recordings from early singles and demo tapes, recorded in 1967-1973. This nearly 80-minute CD contains all the known/available recordings made by the earliest Genesis (Gabriel/Banks/Rutherford/Phillips/Silver) up to the debut LP "From Genesis To Revelation", including the excellent, unreleased "Build Me A Mountain", which would probably have been the best track on the debut! In addition, the original single vinyl mixes of recordings such as "Twilight Alehouse", "Happy The Man" and a shortened version (with an alternative ending) of "Watcher Of The Skies" are included. There is also room for two demo versions with drummer John Mayhew, from August 1969: "Going Out To Get You" and "Dusk". All the recordings were professionally recorded and sound simply excellent! Please also note the very attractive, fantastical cover by Paul Whitehead (creator of the covers for "Trespass", "Nursery Cryme" and "Foxtrot") + several rare photos, including one showing Genesis in the company of the Italian trio Le Orme (in 1972)!!! On the second side is the 26-minute suite "Supper's Ready" (in perfect quality), recorded in February 1973, which at the last moment did not fit on the LP "Genesis Live"! An absolute must! Brilliant two-disc CD, limited to 500 copies and lasting over 150 minutes, containing the perfect-sounding, full, legendary concert from the Rainbow Theatre in London, recorded in October 1973 (during the tour promoting the LP "Selling England By The Pound"). Half of this material once came out on the official box set "Genesis Archives 1967-75", but unfortunately the band spoiled the whole thing in many places by inserting new Hackett guitar parts and Gabriel vocals! This is the uncut, ideal, 100-minute version sounding like a dream! And please look at the set of tracks!!! On the second disc four rarities are included, above all the suite "Supper's Ready" (in ideal quality), recorded in February 1973, which at the last moment did not fit on the LP "Genesis Live"! Besides that, there are two outtakes from the sessions for "Selling England" (including an excellent, almost psychedelic improvisation) and, from Rome, a charming live version of the single "Twilight Alehouse", from April 1972. Released at the beginning of 1973, the third album in the discography (and the first for the label Dawn - after leaving Vertigo) is without a doubt the strongest, most dynamic title in the career of this British hard-progressive formation. According to received opinion it is a rather average record, but for me heavy, juicy playing in the vein of early Jethro Tull (lots of strong flute) or Uriah Heep is never average. Half of the album is simply excellent and beats hands down the vast majority of the material from the first two albums, while the other four tracks (including one very Beatles-esque) do not drop below a good level. In addition four tracks from two rather average singles are included. This is a genuinely very good record and, what is more, very good-sounding! Highly recommended! -

Released at the beginning of 1973, the third album in the discography (and the first for the Dawn label - after leaving Vertigo) is without a doubt the hardest, most dynamic title in the career of this British, hard-progressive band. According to conventional opinion it is a rather average record, but for me heavy, juicy playing of the early Jethro Tull (lots of strong flute) or Uriah Heep kind is never average. Half of the album is simply superb and beats the vast majority of the material from the first two albums hands down, while the remaining four tracks (including one very Beatles-like) do not drop below a good level. It is a genuinely very good record and, what is more, one that sounds very good! A 2020 reissue. Highly recommended! -

In addition, a beautiful cover by Roger Dean. The second disc has added great tracks recorded in the studio and at a concert for BBC radio. Highly recommended!
