This CD, released by a small label, contains the last two studio albums by The Doors, recorded after the death of the charismatic vocalist. While almost every fan of old rock can effortlessly name the albums recorded with Morrison, hardly anyone today remembers "Other Voices" from 1971 and "Full Circle", recorded a year later... All in all, somewhat unfairly. Of course, without Jim Morrison even such talented musicians as Manzarek, Krieger and Densmore could not make a work on a par with the brilliant debut, "Strange Days" or even "L.A. Woman", but it must be admitted that these are really quite good albums. The first of them in particular has plenty of excellent moments (including the opening "In The Eye Of The Sun", the longest on the record, "Ship w/Sails", and the last, "Hang On To Your Life")! It is definitely worth getting to know these records - after all, without them the history of one of the most important rock bands is incomplete. The digipak is quite attractively presented, and the sound quality is very good. Highly recommended. (K) -

Released in 1972, the only album by the German band Dschinn belongs to the most interesting items in the catalogue of Bacillus Records, the label owned by Bellaphon. The band went for compact, guitar-driven compositions combining hard rock, psychedelia and blues, with distinct influences of British progressive artists of the early 70s. Among the record's greatest assets are attractive compositions combining catchy melodies with a heavy, bluesy pulse, strong guitar riffs, exceptionally capable playing by the rhythm section and... a great sleeve! The album was recorded in only five days, practically 'live', on four-track equipment, which gave it a raw, authentic sound. Additionally 4 recordings from 1972, unreleased on vinyl, are included. Well, everybody makes mistakes... In my book "British Rock" I wrote mistakenly (relying on several seemingly solid sources, such as Hans Pokora's books, or www.popsike.com) that the LP "Scruffy Duffy" (1973) was the debut of this British hard rock band, while this album is the 'second'... Years later it turned out that it was never released in the British Isles, but in Brazil and France (in 1974 and 1975), the album had come out in Germany as early as 1972... From the note on the back of this premiere CD it follows that I was not the only one who thought so... As for the music, the record was filled with a very attractive and fairly melodic mixture of style close to Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Free and Humble Pie (catchy compositions, plenty of organs, juicy guitars), though without virtuoso acrobatics. A very solid album that will genuinely please almost all lovers of heavy and fairly melodic playing from the early 70s. Recommended! -

Limited to 500 copies, very rare double vinyl, containing over 100 minutes (60 of them from the BBC radio archives) of superb playing in the organ/bass and drums style. In 1969-1971 the trio Egg (and also its alter ego - Arzachel) was the top progressive shelf. The whole thing is opened by four tracks from 1972, three of which came out in 1974 on the third album! It is also worth noting the superb, live versions of tracks from the second album ("Long Piece No 3" and "A Visit In Newport Hospital") - unlike those posted on YouTube - 50% better sounding and presented at the correct speed (on YT both are too sloooow). In addition, among others, the excellent, live "Saturn" by Gustav Holst, unreleased on any record, a live version of the suite from the second studio album, three studio tracks from the BBC, from 1969 and four super rare, studio numbers from 1968 - when the band was still playing as Uriel. The sound quality is almost ideal or very good. A must! NEW, sealed. -

A remastered and excellent-sounding vinyl edition of a Finnish rock classic - together with a bonus track! In my opinion, alongside the debut album by Culpeper's Orchard, it is the best rock record ever made in Scandinavia and certainly in the top twenty of continental Europe! Released in 1972 by the Finnish branch of EMI Parlophone, the LP "Harvest Time" is on the wish list of almost every serious vinyl collector. Unfortunately the original copies (in nearly ideal condition) that appear on the market once a year easily exceed 1200 euros and as such are rather out of reach... As for the music, it is a wonderful and incredibly catchy combination of the style of heavy rock of the Budgie, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple kind, the progressive elements of the work of early Jethro Tull and a large pinch of Scandinavian... sadness. Here everything fits together perfectly: the superb, very atmospheric though usually feisty electric guitar parts and the Hammonds echoing in the background and the dark vocals and finally the very juicy and at the same time slightly jazzy drumming... All the melodies catch the ear almost at once and at moments it is hard to believe that it is such good playing! No, I repeat no fan of heavy progressive rock can function normally without this record! Additionally an excellent, 8-minute track released in 1971 on the very rare, local Finnish compilation "Pop Mestarit" is included. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -
