Recordings from the performance at the Berlin Jazz Festival, 7 November 1971. The project was a new version of Ponty's "Violin Summit" (in which Svend Asmussen, Stephane Grappelli and Stuff Smith then performed), from 1966. At this concert the violinists were accompanied by: Robert Wyatt (Soft Machine / Matching Mole) - drums, Terje Rypdal (Min Bul) - guitar, Neville Whitehead (Keith Tippett Group) - bass guitar and Wolfgang Dauner - keyboard instruments. The album (a double on LP) included three compositions by Ponty, one each by Urbaniak, Dauner and Rypdal, and "Got My Mojo Working" by Muddy Waters. A remastered 2007 edition. (MU) -

A genuinely sensational album from the Maida Vale label, limited to 500 copies, combining two 25-minute performances (in excellent sound quality) by British progressive bands, recorded by the BBC in 1971 and originally released on ultra-rare promotional vinyl by the BBC Transcription Service. The more popular band was Satisfaction, known from an album for the Deram label, a great jazz-prog-rock outfit (with a former guitarist of The Artwoods and a juicy brass section), who on the first side presented four very energetic and passionately played tracks from their only and perhaps slightly underrated album. The completely unknown Tapestry, on the other hand, occupying the second side (also four recordings), came across as downright sensational - an excellent British progressive band resembling folk-progressive Trees and delicate, very early Genesis - with female and male vocals. For unknown reasons the band never signed a record contract, but in August 1971 it played a concert at the BBC's radio headquarters in London, a 25-minute fragment of which was recorded and released in 1971... in 100 copies! I stress: this is fantastic, sophisticated, breathy, melodic progressive playing that should delight every fan of the genre! AN ABSOLUTE MUST! P.S. I also recommend the unique live record, made up of two performances (from 1973), by the groups Wild Turkey and Wolf - also released by Maida Vale! -

A new, limited, European edition of the superb, psych-progressive rock classic released in spring 1971 in Argentina, full of extended compositions based on the dense, juicy and strongly psychedelic interplay of electric and acoustic guitars, usually backed by keyboards in the background, and magical, melodic vocals (in Spanish). Originally, the 55-minute album (translated with the subtitle: "The Bible According To Vox Dei") appeared on double vinyl and is the second studio LP by this cult band - regarded as a milestone in the history of Argentine rock. It is worth knowing that, unlike in other South American countries, a huge number of excellent rock bands were exceptionally active in Argentina (reminiscent of the work of somewhat rawer progressive bands from Italy and Spain), which since the 90s have been highly valued by fans and collectors. So this is not an anomaly, but a rock classic! Great sound, although it should be remembered that parts of the penultimate, 10-minute track "Cristo" sound a little less clear, as they come from an average copy, because 2-3 minutes were accidentally... erased in the studio! Attention! This is the original version from the Disc Jockey label in the classic sleeve. Years later the material was re-recorded twice (in new sleeves), but that was decidedly not it... I admit that for forty years this has been one of my (many) favourite American albums from the early 70s! Perhaps because I got to know it at the very beginning of my adventure with 'unknown' rock... Titled simply "Whalefeathers", containing only six tracks (two of them long), the second album by a psychedelic American formation (with progressive influences - mainly because of the ubiquitous Hammond organ), stylistically harking back to the output of Vanilla Fudge, Procol Harum, Cream and (perhaps) Uriah Heep. The opening "World Of Pain" is for me the best cover of a Cream track ever recorded! The closing, slowly unfolding, over ten-minute "Shadows", meanwhile, is a genuine rock monster! It is an almost classic record, though it has a little too many covers - albeit very good ones... The vinyl in this beautiful cover once came out only in England (now on CD for the first time) on the usually blues label Blue Horizon. This edition sounds better than the old Akarma edition (2 in 1 - released together with the 1970 debut "Declare") - not to mention the German SPM version from 1990. A must! -
