LIGHT OF DARKNESS - LIGHT OF DARKNESS - Light Of Darkness - EU Once Again Limited Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A new, remastered and for years unavailable reissue of the only album, released by Philips in 1971, by the group Light Of Darkness. The band offered a very interesting and all in all original combination of heavy blues rock, early hard rock and elements of progressive rock. Although the group was formed by Scottish musicians active in Hamburg, their sound clearly refers to the British scene of the turn of the 60s and 70s. Echoes of Edgar Broughton Band and early Uriah Heep could be heard, but without simply copying either of those bands. A great virtue of the record was its raw energy. The band moved freely from heavy guitar riffs to more atmospheric, bluesy passages, enriched with organ, piano, flute and violin parts, as well as a characteristic, somewhat rough vocal. One could say that the musicians went more for spontaneity and atmosphere than for technical virtuosity. Special mention goes to the 10-minute Soul Francisco from the repertoire of the American folk musician Tony Joe White. The album will delight all lovers of heavy, bluesy playing with a distinct progressive bent. Highly recommended! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -
LP
LITTLE BIG HORN (see also: Wild Silk) - LITTLE BIG HORN - Little Big Horn +7 (2LP) - SPA Sommor Remastered Expanded Press - LISTENprice: 170,00 PLN / 42,50 EUR
The first reissue on LP! Half of the album is kept in a hard-progressive style (guitars + keyboards) of the Jody Grind and lighter Deep Purple kind, while the second, somewhat gentler part resembles a little the work of Procol Harum, The Band and Paul McCartney. Highly recommended! -
CD
LODESTONE (see also: Flies / T2) - LODESTONE - Time Flies - UK Explore Rights Remastered Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
For the first time on CD! Lodestone is a British band playing progressive rock with psychedelic influences, in the vein of Procol Harum, The Nice or the Moody Blues, and even The Beatles. Their music was dominated by organ and also a rich use of orchestra. The band was formed on the initiative of the producer Tony Atkins, and its line-up included musicians known mainly from the freakbeat scene. Unfortunately "Time Flies" was released only in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. -

LP
LUV MACHINE - LUV MACHINE - Luv Machine +1 - EU Ethelion Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
Released in the original, controversial cover (no major label would let this project through today...), a reissue of the only, very rare, but great, album made in 1971 by a totally forgotten, hard-rock British band (two white Angolans + two natives of Barbados). The record was filled with riffing, hard-rock tracks (though poured over with a psychedelic or progressive sauce) in the vein of Horse, Incredible Hog, Stray and Leaf Hound. The original Polydor vinyl in MINT- condition is worth 700-800 euros today, so it is undoubtedly worth taking a chance on this perfectly sounding reissue! Additionally a track from the B-side of the group's only single has been included. Highly recommended! Condition: NEW, sealed. -

LUV MACHINE - LUV MACHINE - Luv Machine +2 - EU Once Again Expanded Limited Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A reissue, in the original, controversial sleeve (no major label would let this project through today...), of the only album, recorded in 1971, by a totally forgotten British hard rock band (two white Englishmen + two Barbadians) - very rare, but excellent. The album was filled with riffing hard rock tracks (though drenched in a psychedelic or progressive sauce) in the vein of Horse, Incredible Hog, Stray or Leaf Hound. The original Polydor vinyl in MINT- condition is worth 700-800 euros today, so it is certainly worth taking an interest in this perfectly sounding reissue! Additionally included are the B-side of the band's only single (1970) and an unreleased track from 1971. Highly recommended! (JL) -

MAINHORSE (see also: Yes / Refugee / Patrick Moraz) - MAINHORSE - Mainhorse - UK Esoteric Edition - LISTENprice: 70,00 PLN / 17,50 EUR
Released in 1971, the sole album (apart from the archival CD and vinyl from the 1969-1970 sessions) by an excellent British progressive band with the Swiss keyboard virtuoso Patrick Moraz - later in Refugee, Yes and The Moody Blues! Plenty of Hammonds, sharp guitars, extended compositions and plenty of changing moods. The top shelf of progressive rock of the early 70s! In the opinion of many it is a better album than the sole achievement of the aforementioned Refugee. An absolute MUST! -
CD
MAJORITY (MAJORITY ONE) - MAJORITY ONE - Majority One - US Digipack Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
A British formation (also recording under the name THE MAJORITY - see the Rev-Ola CD) drawing on the work of The Beatles, early The Moody Blues and above all early Bee Gees. This American CD contains the catalogue album (recorded in 1971 but sounding like 1968-69) and 7 bonus tracks - including Get Back Home (released only in Europe - on the B-side of a single) - an absolute psychedelic killer with a monstrously overdriven guitar! Recommended! (JL) -

MAKI, CARMEN + BLUES CREATION (see also: Dew) - CARMEN MAKI / BLUES CREATION - Carmen Maki / Blues Creation - EU Once Again Limited Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
This wonderful and unique record, released in the summer of 1971, was made by the Japanese vocalist Carmen Maki (previously known for folk or pop songs) with the participation of the heavy rock band Blues Creation. In general I'm not fond of female vocals, but despite certain limitations, the beautiful Carmen, imitating Janis Joplin and Grace Slick a little, is simply sensational here! The whole material was created in exactly the same session as the classic LP "Demon And Eleven Children", credited solely to Blues Creation (released a month earlier), and the band, playing genuinely heavy, bluesy rock here (a bit in the vein of the first side of "Led Zeppelin III"), was as usual in top form and certainly did not hold back! I repeat: this is a splendid album without a single weaker moment, although when I discovered that the author of the opening "Understand" was the American band Fantasy (1970), I was slightly disappointed... The sound quality is excellent! A must! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

MAKI, CARMEN + BLUES CREATION (see also: Dew) - BLUES CREATION WITH CARMEN MAKI - Carmen Maki + Blues Creation - FRA Absinthe Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
A European, great-sounding edition in a gatefold sleeve (modelled on the Japanese original from 1971, now worth about 1000 euros)! This wonderful and unique record was made by the 'Japanese Janis Joplin' - Carmen Maki with the participation of the heavy rock band Blues Creation. I am not fond of female vocals, but despite certain limitations C.M. is simply sensational. All the material was made in exactly the same session as the Blues Creation LP "Demon And Eleven Children" (released a month earlier), and the band, playing genuinely heavy, bluesy rock here (something like the first side of "Led Zeppelin III"...), was as usual on top form. I repeat: it is a BRILLIANT album without a single weaker moment! The pressing quality is perfect. A must! -

MAMMUT - MAMMUT - Mammut - GER Ohrwaschl Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
German edition from Ohrwaschl (the label behind Out Of Focus, Nosferatu and Murphy Blend) of a great (and unfortunately worth over 3000 euros on vinyl) and superbly produced album by a German band that is one of the best examples of the German underground, where rock with influences of blues, psychedelia and even classical music resulted in an extended, multi-part and truly stylistically varied suite. A combination of the style of Jethro Tull, Ten Years After, rock Zappa and Emerson Lake And Palmer. Alongside the debut of Rufus Zuphall it is the best German album released as a private pressing. Very good sound! A must! -

MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND - MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND - In Concert 1971-1973 - FRA On The Air - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Limited, unofficial French CD, containing two performances by the excellent, progressive and probably still underrated group Manfred Mann's Earth Band, recorded by the BBC Transcription Service and released on super rare vinyls (worth 1500-2000 PLN each) over 40 years ago. The first lasted 25 minutes and was recorded before the release of the first album and sounds fairly similar to MM Chapter III. The second performance lasted over 50 minutes and contained long, typically progressive tracks from the three excellent records "Glorified Magnified" (1972), "Messin" (1973) and "Solar Fire" (1973). In all 77 minutes of top-shelf British prog rock with perfect, clean sound. A must! -

MASTER'S APPRENTICES - MASTER'S APPRENTICES - A Toast To Panama Red +2 - EU Once Again Expanded Limited Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A new, limited, European edition of the fourth (and last) studio album by the cult band, very popular in the Antipodes. Like its predecessor ("Choice Cuts" from April 1971) - this album, recorded at London's Abbey Road, offered stunning, hard-progressive and quite melodic playing in the vein of Led Zeppelin, Wishbone Ash, very late The Beatles and the Australian Tamam Shud. As on the previous album, the record was dominated by very substantial, shorter forms, although the best part of the album was without a doubt the 11-minute "Games We Play". To this day I find it hard to understand why this band did not become huge outside Australia... Plus two tracks - the live "Future Of Our Nation" from 1971 (in a different version from that on "Nickelodeon") and the studio "Freedom Seekers" from 1972, recorded already as a trio, which was unfortunately the band's swan song. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -

MASTER'S APPRENTICES - MASTER'S APPRENTICES - Nickelodeon - Live +3 - EU Once Again Expanded Limited Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
These three wonderful albums from the early 70s by this Australian band can easily compete with the best hard-progressive records from Britain or continental Europe, and often beat them hands down! The concert recorded in January 1971 (between the albums "Choice Cuts" and "A Toast To Panama Red") and released on vinyl only in Australia is, in my opinion, among the best rock live albums - the decidedly guitar-led playing is generally slow, intense and heavy. On top of that, almost all of the compositions (except "Because I Love You") were brand new! Do listen to the nearly 20-minute, veeery heavy version of "Evil Woman", inspired by the brilliant version by Spooky Tooth from their second album! Interestingly, the record has an almost perfect, nearly studio sound quality! This is an essential complement to the band's earlier two albums! Additionally included are three live recordings from Australian TV, including a great, heavy version of "Rio De Camero". AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -

MASTER'S APPRENTICES - MASTER'S APPRENTICES - Choice Cuts +2 - EU Once Again Expanded Limited Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A new, limited, European edition of the absolutely excellent album, released by EMI in April 1971 (in their native Australia by Columbia under the title "Choice Cuts", and in the UK as "Master's Apprentices" - by Regal Zonophone), by a criminally underrated (outside their homeland) band. In my humble opinion it is hard to imagine better, classically rock, hard-progressive playing from the early 70s! Recorded at London's Abbey Road (see: the photo on the back of the CD...), the band's third album is stunning and quite melodic playing in the vein of Cream, Wishbone Ash, Jethro Tull, Ginhouse and the Australian Tamam Shud. The trademark of MA's sound was the superb combination of electric and acoustic guitars (often playing alongside each other). Fairly short, though very substantial compositions. It is really hard to understand why this band did not become huge outside Australia, where it had the status of demigods... Released in December of the same year, 1971 (again made at Abbey Road), the somewhat more progressive LP "A Toast To Panama Red" was without a doubt on an equally high level, though for me 'Choice Cuts' will always be a magical work. Plus two tracks from rare B-sides of singles. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -
LP
