A very well recorded reissue of the only album (released by Charisma) by a British group playing rocking, almost entirely instrumental, guitar rock in the style of the rough-edged Wishbone Ash and Thin Lizzy. Only four tracks, filled mainly with guitar improvisations. A classic, old sound - just like in 1972! Highly recommended! -

Avenger was founded by former members of the band Blitzkrieg. In 1982 their first demo track, "Hot 'N' Heavy Express", ended up on Neat Records' compilation "One Take No Dubs (Live In The Studio)". A year later, through the same label, the debut single "Too Wild To Tame" was released. Shortly after, the vocalist Brian Ross left for the band Satan, while Ian Swift went the other way and with him in the line-up Avenger released their debut LP, "Blood Sports", in 1984. The second album, "Killer Elite", came out a year later, and the band went on a tour of the USA. Unfortunately, right after it Avenger broke up. Ian Swift joined Atomkraft, and the drummer Gary Young joined the meanwhile reactivated Blitzkrieg. The band's music is classic, heavy, British hammering with occasional accelerations. CD1 is the debut album "Blood Sports" from 1984, CD2 - its successor "Killer Elite" from 1985, and CD3 contains tracks from the concert on 3 March 1986, at the L'Amour club in Brooklyn. Bonus tracks are added to both studio records. Highly recommended! -

The debut, "Lemmings", recorded in 1970 but not released until 1973 in France, is superb, top-shelf British heavy-progressive with clear, psychedelic touches - at moments very reminiscent of the output of T2. The CD contains the whole of the original French vinyl, but without three (slightly worse sounding) tracks from the same session, released in 1977 on a British EP enclosed with the edition there. The second LP in the discography, "Stalingrad", maintained a decent level and resembled Wishbone Ash tracks of the second half of the 70s. Highly recommended! (JL) -

Remastered British edition of the debut album by the formation founded by drummer Ginger Baker and Adrian and Paul Gurvitz (both ex-Gun and Three Man Army). The record, released in 1975 and thoroughly successful, was filled mainly with rhythmic and almost hard rock material. Worthy of note are Baker's lively drumming and several truly great tracks, such as the dynamic "Help Me", the rhythmically broken "Love Is", and above all the best on the album, the eight-minute "Mad Jack". In addition, this attractively presented CD includes a live version from 1975 of the track "Memory Lane". Recommended!
