Recordings from the performance at the Berlin Jazz Festival, 7 November 1971. The project was a new version of Ponty's "Violin Summit" (in which Svend Asmussen, Stephane Grappelli and Stuff Smith then performed), from 1966. At this concert the violinists were accompanied by: Robert Wyatt (Soft Machine / Matching Mole) - drums, Terje Rypdal (Min Bul) - guitar, Neville Whitehead (Keith Tippett Group) - bass guitar and Wolfgang Dauner - keyboard instruments. The album (a double on LP) included three compositions by Ponty, one each by Urbaniak, Dauner and Rypdal, and "Got My Mojo Working" by Muddy Waters. A remastered 2007 edition. (MU) -

The first record by this British band was released as a double vinyl (lasting nearly 80 minutes) and contained very eclectic, sophisticated music in the vein of King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator, Web and East Of Eden, that is, fairly complicated progressive playing (with long tracks) using brass and organ. The only drawback was the lack of guitar - listed in the line-up, but I cannot hear it... The next two albums were in a similar vein. Great sound quality. A must! -

Remastered British edition of the excellent album, originally released in 1969 by Polydor, by the jazz-rock formation of the American drummer, with John McLaughlin in the line-up. Great, extended and mostly instrumental jazz-rock compositions. The record will certainly appeal to fans of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. ATTENTION! The next LP in the discography - "Turn It Over" (Polydor 1970), recorded with Jack Bruce on bass! - came out in the same edition as well. Recommended. -

Released in 1970 by Polydor, the legendary album by American drummer Tony Williams (or perhaps the group Tony Williams Lifetime) recorded in a superb line-up! Alongside the leader the record featured Jack Bruce, guitarist and leader of the MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA John McLaughlin and organist Larry Young! Nice, lively, improvised, jazz-rock playing based on the excellent playing of all the instrumentalists. Excellent, dynamic and at times truly sharp guitar parts by McLaughlin, Bruce's perfect (as always) bass, the leader's very dense drumming and nice keyboard parts. It was a groundbreaking album (like the first LP Emergency!) having an enormous influence on future bands from the fusion circle. Remastered British Esoteric edition with one bonus track taken from a single. ATTENTION! The album Emergency! (1969) came out in the same edition as well. Definitely recommended! (K) -

A seven-disc box set from 2022, containing the albums recorded by the Japanese drummer and keyboardist for the Island label: "Floating Music" from 1972, "Man From The East" and "Freedom Is Frightening" from 1973, "One By One" from 1974 and "Raindog" from 1975, as well as the records sometimes credited as the group Go, the first of them as the trio Stomu Yamashta/Steve Winwood/Michael Shrieve - the studio "Go" and the live "Go... Live From Paris", both from 1976. Yamashta's music is very good, progressive, extended playing with distinct elements of jazz and should appeal to fans of such artists as Soft Machine, Nucleus, Can, Gong, Isotope or Gilgamesh, and even admirers of the first Skin Alley record. All the albums have been remastered, and the whole thing comes in a rigid box, with an attractive, 40-page booklet inside. Highly recommended! (MU) -
