This is a real treat for fans of forgotten British heavy playing! A MUST! -

Both records remastered and with additional tracks. -

A limited, excellent European CD lasting 79 minutes, containing two performances by the classic line-up, with guitarist Uli Roth: a 50-minute radio-broadcast performance from Essen, Germany, from April 1975 (from the tour promoting the second, hard-progressive LP in their discography, "Fly To The Rainbow") and (as a BONUS) a 30-minute 'live' performance from Swiss TV from 1977 (promoting the LP "Virgin Killer"). The Essen concert was recorded by the German station WDR, and somehow the radio broadcast was professionally recorded by a fan of the band, hence this album! This material was available for years on CDs (and on YouTube) in much worse quality - with crackles! This is a different, almost perfect source! The band performed, among others, five tracks from the 'second album', unique covers of Hendrix's "Red House" and "Rock & Roll Queen" from the repertoire of Mott The Hoople, as well as "Long Tall Sally" and a short instrumental jam. The May 1977 performance, in turn, contained eight recordings in perfect sound quality. The whole is an ideal complement to the band's splendid catalogue records from 1974-1977. An absolute must! The only, but great, album by an American band playing heavy, bluesy rock with Hammond (and on two tracks even with brass). Importantly, the band did not shy away from neat, quite unexpected, riffing transitions, and the organist's playing genuinely deserves attention! This album has practically no weak spots and will satisfy every lover of sounds in the vein of Alamo, Goodthunder and a ponderous Allman Brothers Band with a pinch of Wishbone Ash and Bloodrock. The unfolded American sleeve (much less attractive graphically) appears inside the booklet. A must! -

I must admit that nothing has made such an impression on me for a long time as this 80-minute limited release! During short three- or four-hour sessions, the then completely unpopular band recorded 4-5 numbers 'live' at the BBC studio, and at first these were covers of other artists' recordings. Just look at the titles! Among others, songs from the repertoire of The Beatles (a similar but sharper "Getting Better"), Traffic (the brilliant "Coloured Rain"), The Moody Blues (the beautiful "Nights In White Satin"), as well as Janis Joplin, Fairport Convention, Moby Grape, Delaney & Bonnie and the forgotten band Max Frost And The Troopers (the fantastic "The Shapes Of Things To Come")... Sensational! Slade play like gods here and this music will probably appeal to all fans of dynamic playing from the turn of the 60s and 70s! I repeat: if anyone dislikes the band for its glam image, they should still give this record a chance! Of the 25 tracks, 19 were previously released on the long-deleted, official double CD "Live At The BBC", but here the quality is marginally better (more treble and bass), and there are six unreleased tracks! Excellent sound quality on all the recordings! A MUST! (JL) -

A nice debut album by a British 'mini-supergroup' formed by, among others, musicians from Juicy Lucy (the guitarist Micky Moody - later in Whitesnake), Freedom (the vocalist Bobby Harrison), Mark-Almond (the bassist Colin Gibson) and the Australian band McPhee (the drummer Terry Poople). The band combined somewhat heavy rock with the style of blues and country. The album appeared on vinyl from the short-lived WWA company (like the LPs of Black Sabbath, Gentle Giant and Groundhogs). Recommended. -

Debut album by an American duo. One guy pounded hard on the drums (playing almost a solo), and the other gave vent to his feelings on an overdriven guitar, though there are also much calmer passages here... This entirely instrumental album often sounded like the middle part (the wall of sound) of Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray" or like the endings of Jimi Hendrix's live recordings, but it is quite nice to listen to. American CD released as a mini LP. (JL)
