Southern Cross is an Australian formation created on the initiative of the Buffalo guitarist John Baxter and vocalist Alan Milano (who sang on the LP "Dead Forever" by the aforementioned formation). Admittedly Baxter himself left the group before the record was made, but Milano stayed, and with other musicians he recorded a really nice hard rock album. Recommended. (K) -

Once a double album, the second album by the Japanese heavy rock trio (with Shinki Chen on guitar) playing in the vein of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath - now on a single CD. 3/4 of the record is very reminiscent of the excellent debut LP "Eve". Unfortunately, the last 18 minutes are avant-garde experiments with sound. Fortunately, nearly an hour of great music still remains! -

Excellent two-disc CD containing 32 recordings by the band made in studios or on stage for BBC stations in 1966-2005. 2 tracks were made still under the name The Spectres, while among the compositions recorded in the pop-psychedelic period (1967-1969) there are many that did not make it onto the main albums. For me the hard-progressive tracks from 1970-73 came off spectacularly - including an excellent concert from March 1973 promoting the LP Piledriver released at the time. Recommended! -

A new, remastered edition of the great, though practically forgotten by the world, only album by a British band. Released at the beginning of 1971 by RCA Victor (and worth 400-500 euros on vinyl today), the Brits' only, but splendid, LP contained heavy, very thoroughbred playing (with light elements of blues and prog rock) in the traditional British style, recalling a little the debut of Budgie, May Blitz records, the debut of Free and Leaf Hound. Devoid of any promotion (and probably a mere, unscrupulous tax write-off for the record label), the record sank without trace on the market - like hundreds of other titles released by major labels at the turn of the 60s and 70s. The band certainly gained no popularity from the dreadful sleeve, which looked as if splattered with mud. It is hard to believe that it was signed by the man known from the debut of Black Sabbath and records by the groups Spring, Indian Summer, Affinity, Colosseum - Keef... After a few months, two Stonehouse musicians formed the gentler and more progressive band Asgard. A MUST! Condition: new, sealed. (JL) -

A superb record from South Africa, legendary among collectors. With one exception, the album contained only covers of more or less well-known tracks from the hard and prog-rock area - all performed with great dynamism and fire. Believe me, some of the recordings came out better than the originals (for example the two Grand Funk compositions or Colosseum's "Elegy"), and whose version of "War Pigs" is better - please judge for yourself... The original vinyl (released by Parlophone) in very good condition costs nearly 2000 euros! A must! (JL)
