An American CD on the Sundazed label presenting recordings (singles and unreleased) from 1968-1970 by a little-known band of the American scene, combining the rawness of garage rock with more melodic folk rock and soul. Morning Reign's strong point was extended, four-part vocal harmonies and varied compositions. Alongside their own material there are also 'covers'. -

MURASAKI - MURASAKI - Doin' Our Thing At The Live House Murasaki - SWE Flawed Gems - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Released in 1977 on double vinyl, the live, third and at the same time last classic album by the 'Japanese Deep Purple'. The band plays really fantastically here, and the live versions sound even better than their studio counterparts - which in the 70s was the standard for every self-respecting rock group. Only in the last 30 years has the value of the live album (usually made half in the studio) dropped almost to zero, and most of them are typical contract or discography fillers... Returning to Murasaki, this CD, lasting exactly 80 minutes, sounds like a (inevitably) somewhat weaker copy of Deep Purple's 'Made In Japan' combined with 'Made In Europe'. Is that an incentive? For me an enormous one! Compared with the original album the order of the tracks has been slightly changed and incidentally a mediocre, cloying ballad has dropped out. The sound itself, however, is almost excellent! A must! -
CD
MURPHY BLEND (Blackwater Park) - MURPHY BLEND - First Loss - EU Prog Gems Limited Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
This splendid album by a forgotten German band, released at the beginning of 1971 by the Kukuck label (known among other things also for records by Out Of Focus and Armaggedon) - in my humble opinion is probably the best title from Germany in the circle of heavy, progressive rock! This imaginative album was characterised by perfectly balanced proportions between catchy guitar riffs and the classical-leaning organ passages dominant here. As a lover of Deep Purple I simply find it hard to tear myself away from this record, although compared with the Brits Murphy Blend sound rather as if their leader, by contrast, was their own Jon Lord, obsessed with the work of the classics (mainly Bach), and the German Blackmore played somewhat more sparingly and somewhat in the background. This record must not be missed! Excellent sound - slightly clearer than on the Ohrwashl edition, and a much nicer booklet containing several rare photos of this splendid band! NOTE! The short sound of a cuckoo clock placed at the end of the record always appeared at the end of each vinyl side of albums on the Kuckuck label and until now had not been included! AN ABSOLUTE MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

MUSEO ROSENBACH - MUSEO ROSENBACH - Zarathustra - SWE Flawed Gems Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
In my opinion, this title, released in spring 1973, is the best progressive album ever recorded in Italy! Full stop. The music of Museo Rosenbach is a combination of the style of Jethro Tull, King Crimson, P.F.M. and Deep Purple with more than a pinch of Italian classical music. The 20-minute title suite simply overwhelms with its rich melodies, numerous changes of mood, inventive construction and the powerful sound of the instrumental parts (organ, piano, mellotron, guitars) - at moments close to the style of juicy, heavy rock. The remaining 3 tracks are practically in no way inferior to it. It is hardly surprising that vinyl collectors pay as much as 4000 euros for perfect, original Italian copies! A great advantage of this release is the excellent sound quality - (after listening to the whole thing) I am sure that it is clearer than the earlier Italian editions. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! -
CD
NAZARETH - NAZARETH - BBC Radio Sessions 1972-1973 - FRA On The Air Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
A limited, excellent CD containing 80 minutes of top hard rock live playing from the BBC radio archives - in perfect sound quality! This is early Nazareth - still hungry, still a little bluesy and not holding back on stage. All the recordings were made before the release of their breakthrough LP "Razamanaz" - in July 1972 and January 1973. The band plays quite a few covers, including excellent, heavily extended versions of Tim Rose's "Morning Dew" and a nearly 10-minute, jamming "Black Hearted Woman" from the repertoire of the Allman Brothers Band! In addition, two tracks from studio sessions have been added. A must! -

NIGHT SUN (see also: Guru Guru) - NIGHT SUN - Mournin' - EU Once Again Limited Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
The only record, released in 1972 by the Zebra label, owned by Polydor Records (and now very collectable though short-lived), is an excellent, ultra-heavy, German progressive rock in the style of Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Black Sabbath, as well as Silberbart and Lucifer's Friend. Based on very heavy riffs and at times flaunting a psychedelic atmosphere, the album is considered by many an example of the heaviest, at times almost extreme playing of the early 70s and I assure you it should disappoint nobody! A must! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

NINE DAYS WONDER - NINE DAYS' WONDER – The Bacillus Years (3CD) - MIG Music Editionprice: 150,00 PLN / 37,50 EUR
The complete recordings of Nine Days' Wonder for the Bacillus label, documenting the band's whole artistic path – from experimental progressive rock of the early seventies to the more polished, melodic sound of the middle of the decade. The debut, sensational album from 1971 stands out with extended suites and contains only four splendid pieces recalling the work of Silberbart, Birth Control from the LP "Operation" and early Pink Floyd - with elements of Frank Zappa. On the subsequent records the music becomes more orderly, but the band does not give up ambitious arrangements, rich instrumentation and characteristic multi-part vocals. 3CD in a cardboard digipak with a booklet -
CD
NOVEMBER (see also: Saga) - NOVEMBER - 6:e +3 - EU Once Again Expanded Limited Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A new, limited and greatly expanded edition of the third and at the same time last album, originally released in 1972, by the Swedes playing heavy, progressive rock. Note! The title of the LP did not mean the 'sixth' album but referred to the date of 6 November 1632 - the day of the death of King Gustavus Adolphus II in the Battle of Lützen - which is, incidentally, immortalised on the beautiful sleeve... Musically it is probably the most varied record by the band, which on the one hand presented some of its heaviest guitar riffs and aggressive sounds, but at the same time did not shy away from gentler passages. Either way - great, classic playing from the early 70s! Additionally 3 greatly extended live tracks from 1971 are included, lasting as much as 26 minutes together and released years later on 'November Live'! A MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -
CD
NOVEMBER (see also: Saga) - NOVEMBER - 2:a +6 - EU Once Again Expanded Limited Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A new, limited, greatly expanded and great-sounding edition of the second album originally released by Swedish Sonet in 1971. For many fans it is the band's peak achievement and one of the most important albums of Scandinavian hard rock of the early 70s. On 'the second one' the band again offered intense, heavy blues-rock with progressive elements and at the same time developed the ideas from the debut. As a result the sound became heavier, more compact and even more guitar-driven. The record contains plenty of extended, expressive solos, and the rhythm section played like a classic, early British power trio. Additionally as much as 27 minutes (6 recordings) of bonus material are included: 2 recordings from rare singles and 4 great-sounding live pieces from 1971, released years later on the CD/LP 'November Live'! Again the Once Again label faithfully reproduced the artwork from the original, gatefold LP - simply absent from the old '2LP on 1CD' edition. A MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -
CD
NOVEMBER (see also: Saga) - NOVEMBER - En Ny Tid Ar Har +8 - EU Once Again Expanded Limited Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
A new, limited and great-sounding edition of the splendid debut album, originally released by Sonet in 1970, by a Swedish band playing heavy, guitar-driven rock inspired by Cream, Free and Jethro Tull with distinct progressive influences (including occasional flute parts). The record retained a raw character; individual tracks give the impression of having been recorded almost 'live', without excessive studio embellishments. The whole thing was sung in a natural, accessible way in Swedish and sounds very fresh. Great and at the same time very catchy playing! Additionally as much as 33 minutes (8 recordings) of extra material are included: 3 recordings from rare singles, 1 track from the recording session and 4 live pieces from 1970 released years later on the CD/LP 'November Live'! As usual the Once Again label reproduced the artwork from the original LP almost faithfully and also added reproductions of several of the band's early singles. A MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

NUCLEUS (CAN) (see also: A Foot In Coldwater) - NUCLEUS - Nucleus - US Mandala Digipack Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
The only, but genuinely excellent, album by a somewhat forgotten Canadian formation, which two years later turned into the hard rock A Foot In Coldwater. Heavy, intense playing with dominant Hammond sounds and a wonderfully overdriven (but not overdone) guitar; besides that, plenty of intense, meaty and almost progressive playing - as it was in 1969... Something like a Vanilla Fudge three times better and more rock-oriented, and without the intrusive vocals. 44 minutes and only six tracks! Digipak. A must! -
CD
OLD MAN AND THE SEA - OLD MAN & THE SEA - Old Man & The Sea +7 - EU Prog Gems Expanded Limited Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 55,00 PLN / 13,75 EUR
Released by Sonet in 1972, an excellent, classic album by a Danish progressive band with a full sound based on Hammond organ and juicy guitar sounds. Fairly long, 6-8 minute tracks with intelligent arrangements reminiscent of the style of German prog rock in the vein of early Jane, Satin Whale and Grobschnitt. The original vinyl in perfect condition sells for 1000 euros! Plus seven recordings, stylistically very similar to the content of the LP, made in 1972-1974, are included. Highly recommended! (JL) -
CD
OLIVER - OLIVER - Standing Stone - Guerssen Press - LISTENprice: 80,00 PLN / 20,00 EUR
This is one of the most cult and rarest British private press records of the 70s, and among collectors it long functioned almost as a legend. The album was recorded using practically home methods by Oliver Chaplin and the whole thing was created in a spirit of complete independence as a mixture of psychedelia, acid folk and experimental blues. The recordings were made on a 4-track TEAC tape recorder, without synthesisers, often using a single microphone. This gives the record a very raw, organic and at times even "hallucinatory" sound. Short pieces flow one into another and the music at times recalls the style of Syd Barrett, and at moments the experiments of Captain Beefheart. -
CD
OLYMPIC - OLYMPIC - Jedeme, jedeme +8 - CZE Supraphon Remastered Expanded Digipack Edition - LISTENprice: 90,00 PLN / 22,50 EUR
"Still in September 1970, in just three days, the band recorded all the material for its third and last classic album titled Jedeme, Jedeme, although the number 3 also appeared on the cover. Released in a gatefold sleeve, the record showed the band as artists fascinated above all by the work of the late The Beatles, and also showed a palpable fascination with the then very popular and fashionable progressive rock. It is worth mentioning that several compositions were created as early as 1969 - during a French escapade. The whole thing opened with the sounds of a locomotive setting off, that is the 5-and-a-half-minute Pět Cestujících - a decidedly rock, slightly swaying piece recalling a little the influences of Ten Years After, Traffic and (gentle) Jimi Hendrix, thanks to the interplay of piano, organ and slightly jazzy guitar. Unfortunately, the one that followed, Když Jsem Bejval Tramp, was admittedly a likeable, but on a rock record rather superfluous piece harking back to the Dixieland era. Good that it is only 2 minutes... Third on the record, the balladic Mr. Den A Lady Noc, sung in a warm voice, could have appeared on a Cat Stevens album of that time, but the surprisingly rock, Beatles-like ending could not! The next on the record, the excellent Brouk, was a mixture of the rock sounds of the Beatles, the melodies of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and a good pinch of Jethro Tull that looks rather improbable on paper - also thanks to the charming flute part by Jiří Stivín (of Jazz Q Praha)! That is exactly how catchy, ambitious, British rock sounded in the autumn of 1970! A revelation! The first part was closed by the as much as 6-minute Danny - quite a pretty, ballad-rock, majestic and gently progressive piece (with another attractive part by Stivín - this time as a saxophonist) recalling some recordings of Procol Harum and The Beatles and right at the end almost quoting Donovan's Atlantis, sung by Janda literally personifying McCartney! The second side opened with the gently psychedelic, melodic Elixír - another strongly McCartney-like, rock piece that would have gained still more without the a cappella ending. Built on the sound of organ and electric guitar, the slightly swaying Bláznivej Kiki was a likeable, at moments slightly jazzy, progressive piece, and after it came Bon Soir Mademoiselle Paris, sung in Czech with a slight French mannerism - a beautiful, melancholic piece sung by Janda accompanied by charmingly mixed parts for flute, accordion, acoustic guitar and violin. The penultimate track on the second side, the cheerful and catchy Strážce Majáku, was another track on Jedeme, Jedeme proving that The Beatles' albums of 1968-1969 (and the single Hey Jude) must have been played to death by the main composer Petr Janda. The whole thing was closed by the 5-minute Tobogán - a slightly swaying, dense, almost hard-rock number that draws attention with excellent drumming and aggressive vocals." A REVIEW BY JACEK LEŚNIEWSKI FROM A BOOK ON ROCK IN THE FORMER EASTERN BLOC, BEGUN BUT ABANDONED AFTER HALF A YEAR (2021). A remastered 2021 reissue, extended by eight tracks, in a digipak. -

OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - 10000 Lepes +4 - Hungarian GrundRecords Remastered Expanded - LISTENprice: 85,00 PLN / 21,25 EUR
A remastered version from 2022. Released in 1969, a fantastic, second, Hungarian album containing above all 'Girl With Pearl Hair' but also several other killers, such as the title track, 'Tekozlo Fiuk' or 'Tuzvihar'. This mixture of late psychedelia/early progressive rock in the vein of Procol Harum and The Moody Blues, heavy rock in the style of Hendrix and folk ballad - all of it mixed with the addition of sharp Hungarian spices - was at the time world-class when it came to Eastern Rock! Compared with this album, the work of, say, Polish bands simply did not exist! A Hungarian remastered CD with excellent, perfectly fitting four bonus tracks from excellent singles. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -
CD
OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - Ejszkai Orszagut +6 - Hungarian GrundRecords Expanded Edition - LISTENprice: 85,00 PLN / 21,25 EUR
In my opinion the third album, released in 1970 (English title: Nocturnal Road), was top-shelf European progressive playing, inspired by the work of Jethro Tull, King Crimson and Led Zeppelin but also by European classical music! It is a much darker album than the others, at times very heavy, almost Sabbath-like (the stunning second track), though also containing some of the most beautiful melodies in the band's career! It was the last title with Gabor Presser, who, together with the hitherto hard-hitting drummer, left to found Locomotiv GT! Additionally as many as 6 bonus tracks from Hungarian, English-language singles, that is half of the second album and Dead Are The Flowers! AN ABSOLUTE MUST! (JL) -
CD
OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA - Omega Red Star From Hungary - UK 1968 Decca Album - AUT Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Not counting the unofficial Hungarian CD released a few years ago by a 'pseudo-Universal' (and which is even mentioned on progarchives.com), this is the CD debut of a very good, though completely forgotten, second album by Omega, recorded by the band during their stay in London (May 1968) and released exclusively by British Decca. That is also why on the back of the sleeve of the vinyl edition of the LP 10 000 Lepes, released a year later, there was the mark: "No. 3"! This material, sung in English (with one exception), was a cross between the debut LP Trombitas Fredi and the already mentioned, genuinely excellent LP 10 000 Lepes, that is, a combination of psychedelic rock, budding prog rock, pop and folk with a dominant organ sound, catchy melodies and timid studio experiments with sound. If only the track Trumpeter Charlie (that is, the unfortunate, vaudeville Trombitas Fredi from the debut) were missing, the record would have gained even more class. In any case, it is a charming album that grows on you more with each listen. Oh, and on the record all the tracks were sung by the organist Gabor Presser, because Janos Kobor had to sit some exams in Hungary... It may be worth knowing that the original Decca Records vinyl, sold in only a few hundred copies, is worth 400 euros today (in perfect condition)! The CD sounds excellent - very spacious and clean! A must! -
CD
OMEGA (HUN) (see also: Locomotiv GT / Neoton) - OMEGA – Élő Omega – Kisstadion ’77 (2CD) - HUN Remastered Editionprice: 130,00 PLN / 32,50 EUR
An exceptional document of one of Omega's most important concerts in its classic line-up. The two-disc release presents for the first time the complete recording of the performance at Budapest's Kisstadion, showing the band at the peak of its artistic powers. The concert programme is based mainly on material from the albums "Nem tudom a neved" and "Időrabló", enriched with earlier compositions and the English-language track "Family Strong". On stage Omega impresses with extended parts for organ, Moog synthesisers and mellotron, striking guitar solos and the compact, dynamic playing of the rhythm section. Particular attention is drawn by the extended versions of "A Névtelen Utazó", the suite "Időrabló", "Éjféli Koncert" and the striking instrumental showpieces titled "Szintetizátormutatványok", which are a demonstration of László Benkő's abilities. The recording captures the atmosphere of Omega's concerts of the second half of the seventies, when the group was among the biggest rock stars in Central and Eastern Europe. The remastered sound preserves the authentic character of the archival material, while offering much better quality than earlier sources.
