The only, but almost perfect, album by an American psychedelic formation with vocalist Gary Yoder (later in Blue Cheer). Released in 1968 by Epic Records, the spaciously produced Kak album (Kak-Ola is the title of the CD) contains, among others, the brilliant, 8-minute "Trieulogy" (with a manic, extended wah-wah guitar solo) - one of the best tracks in the history of American psychedelia; besides that the mystical, acid-folk-rock, 6-minute "Lemonade Kid"; several heavier, guitar-driven numbers in the style of a heavier Moby Grape and one track each from the realm of blues and country rock. A British progressive group founded by two former members of Quintessence: the vocalist and the guitarist. The album, released in 1973, at moments strongly resembled the style of Quintessence, although the music is less spiritual. At times you can hear influences of classic rock in the vein of The Faces. In addition two live recordings from the period, one unreleased studio recording from 1973 and two brand new tracks. -

The Brits harked back to the style of psychedelic Beatles and the duo Simon & Garfunkel, only they were even more fairy-tale and dreamlike. You simply have to know it and have it! This is one of the most important reissues from Repertoire Records! This CD, released in a digipak, contains an excellent double album recorded in 1971 but not released until 1991 (the fourth in the discography - counting the LP "From Home To Home", released in 1970 under the name Fairfield Parlour), containing the best of Kaleidoscope's pop-psychedelic music - here combined with ambitious, melodic progressive rock of the early 70s! The band put all their money into this record, after which no major label wanted to release it, and as a result it all ended in bankruptcy and the break-up of the group... The music is wonderful and nearly perfect (though the melodramatic cover may put some people off...) and should appeal to every fan of 'psych' and 'prog'. Incidentally, this title, running to over 70 minutes, had been waiting years for a proper edition! An absolute must! (JL) -

A beautifully produced anthology of all four albums ("Side Trips" from 1967, "Beacon From Mars" from 1968, "Incredible" from 1969 and "Bernice" from 1970) by a legend of American psychedelic rock, with strong folk and Oriental (mainly Turkish) influences. Plenty of trance-like, improvised, very psychedelic playing (several tracks of 10-12 minutes) and shorter, concise compositions brushing against blues and country-folk. 45 tracks. Edition in a traditional jewel case. A must! -

Another excellent band from Scandinavia - this time from Finland. The first, superb, decidedly progressive album from 1972 was based on heavy guitar riffs, a slightly bluesy mood and strong vocals. Something in the vein of Culpeper's Orchard and Wishbone Ash. You listen to this in one breath! For me this record is top ten (perhaps top five...) of Scandinavian rock! The second record on this single CD ("Boogie Jungle") was in a much lighter vein. Highly recommended! (JL) -

A limited, 102-minute double album, released by Verne Records in a beautiful, laminated sleeve with nice photos. In the second half of the 70s Kansas was (in my opinion) the best American band of the heavyish progressive rock circle and at the same time a mega-star filling stadiums. This is an alternative set of recordings to the classic, also double LP "Two For The Show" from 1978, but in my opinion even better, because more progressive (containing much longer tracks)! This fantastic and great-sounding album contains classic material recorded in 1975–1978 (in the period of such albums as "Masque", "Leftoverture" and "Point Of Know Return"), intended for "Two For The Show", but ultimately left off the vinyl edition. Most of the recordings from "Six To The Stage" were released earlier on the second disc of the expanded 2CD "Two For The Show - 30th Anniversary Edition". The pressing and sound quality is simply ideal! A must! Condition: NEW, sealed. -

This 80-minute, unofficial live album was made during the last tour with vocalist Steve Walsh, promoting the LP "Audio-Visions". The excellent-sounding and perfectly produced material was officially released in the States at the beginning of 1981, in the radio promo series "A Night On The Road" (in a run of 100 copies) and is today very sought after by collectors. Without a doubt it is an excellent complement to the classic "Two For The Show" from 1978, as very few tracks are duplicated! It may be worth recalling that in the second half of the 70s Kansas were among the top five most popular progressive formations in the world! Highly recommended! (JL) -
