BOHEMIA - Zrnko pisku - CZ SUPRAPHONprice: 80,00 PLN / 20,00 EUR
"Released by Panton back in 1978, the LP Zrnko Písku was a classic of the jazz-fusion circle, distinguished by excellent, even virtuoso saxophone parts, impressive guitar playing, great drumming and, to put it mildly, rather peculiar vocal parts... The record opened with the 7-minute Chór Minulých Nohou V Průchodu "Pasáž", composed by Kubik - a strongly swinging, thoroughly convoluted piece built on a distinctive bass line and backed by a slightly hoarse vocal that, in my opinion, was a foreign body. The track took on colour in the 4th minute thanks to atmospheric keyboard parts and especially the saxophone, although Semelka sadly returned in the last minute. Then came the 6-and-a-half-minute Zátiší Peronních Lístků, written by the guitarist - a great, pleasantly catchy, again swaying piece, though not shy of full-blooded, rock dynamics, showing Pavlíček as a diligent and at the same time eloquent pupil of the John McLaughlin school - not to mention more delicious phrases from the saxophone... The first side closed with the balladic Sen O Snu composed by Semelka - a very slow, 6-minute number sung mainly to the accompaniment of piano and occasional impressive phrases from a classical guitar. The second, even better side of the record was taken up by just two compositions by Jan Kubik, the first of which was the Horké Letní Stmívání, lasting over 9 minutes - probably the best part of the album, which, apart from a convoluted and not very convincing Gentle Giant-style introduction (and a similar short ending), delighted with both the dynamic flute playing and almost oriental sax phrases against the backdrop of a distinctive but spacious-sounding rhythm section, and finally with almost Crimson-like, intense riffs from the saxophone and guitar... The album ended with the very restless (even Semelka woke from his lethargy and sounded like a rock vocalist) Milenci Před Pollockovým Obrazem - a 7-and-a-half-minute piece, full of intricacies and stylistic twists, which in the sixth minute rewards the patient listener with incredibly lively, improvised playing from the saxophonist and drummer - a passage that would fit perfectly on one of the early Van Der Graaf Generator albums. Sensational! Who knows whether in the second half of the 70s our southern neighbours didn't play the best progressive jazz-rock of all! And please, let nobody jump in here with SBB..." A revelation! This German record knocked me and many of my friends off our feet. Behind this strange name hides one Rainer Denger alias Meister Jakob - a former member of the band German Bonds. Accompanied by unknown German musicians he created an incredible album, combining the moods of the work of Hendrix, Iron Butterfly and the debut of Deep Purple (overdriven guitars, pulsating organ) - with acoustic guitars, psychedelic sound effects and references to all kinds of musical genres appearing out of the blue. The result is simple but totally surreal, narcotic music that is hard to tear yourself away from! A MUST! A 2021 reissue, no longer in production, limited to 500 copies, on light blue vinyl. (JL) -

An absolute classic of heavy American rock from the early 70s. This band, usually compared to Black Sabbath, released in 1971 just one, single album (worth a fortune on original vinyl - over 5000 dollars, but the problem is also that there are no copies for sale on the market...) containing seven tracks based on heavy guitar riffs (and meaty solos), and set on very strong rhythm section playing - a bit like Grand Funk, Sir Lord Baltimore, Euclid and Morly Grey. The closing, 16-minute 'Dead Meat' ('Dead Man' by Josefus and early Black Sabbath in one) showed the musicians' progressive inclinations, which only added a certain flavour to the whole. No weak moments - just solid heavy rock! Nobody will be disappointed! A MUST! Condition: New, sealed. (JL) -

Bolton Iron Maiden were a group active in 1970-1976, inspired by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Free, Groundhogs or Andromeda. Their music combined blues, hard rock and progressive elements. They built a fairly strong reputation by supporting bands such as UFO, Bedlam, Caravan and Thin Lizzy. They broke up after the death of guitarist Ian Boulton-Smith, who died of cancer. In 2005 the band's drummer, Paul T.J. O'Neill, revived interest in BIM by releasing the albums "Maiden Flight" (in 2005) and "Boulton Rides Again" (two years later), compilations of studio and live recordings. The proceeds from these albums were donated to organisations fighting cancer. After consultations with the better-known Iron Maiden and their manager Rod Smallwood, the band adopted the name Bolton Iron Maiden, to avoid confusion. Released in 2025 by the Spanish label Sommor, on vinyl for the first time, "Maiden Flight" contains previously unreleased studio recordings from 1972 and raw live recordings from (around) 1975. An edition on black vinyl, with an insert included. -

Released in 1970 by the label Stax, the eleventh album by the Americans contained nothing less than an INSTRUMENTAL VERSION OF THE BEATLES' "ABBEY ROAD" - an album released only a year earlier! The record has practically no vocals, while the arrangements of the individual tracks have been slightly altered, though all the melodic lines are preserved. Naturally this version does not even have a chance of competing with the original, but it is a kind of curiosity that is certainly worth getting to know. CD from the label Stax.
