WHALEFEATHERS - WHALEFEATHERS - Whalefeathers (2nd Album) - SWE Flawed Gems Remastered - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
I admit that for forty years this has been one of my (many) favourite American albums from the early 70s! Perhaps because I got to know it at the very beginning of my adventure with 'unknown' rock... Titled simply "Whalefeathers", containing only six tracks (two of them long), the second album by a psychedelic American formation (with progressive influences - mainly because of the ubiquitous Hammond organ), stylistically harking back to the output of Vanilla Fudge, Procol Harum, Cream and (perhaps) Uriah Heep. The opening "World Of Pain" is for me the best cover of a Cream track ever recorded! The closing, slowly unfolding, over ten-minute "Shadows", meanwhile, is a genuine rock monster! It is an almost classic record, though it has a little too many covers - albeit very good ones... The vinyl in this beautiful cover once came out only in England (now on CD for the first time) on the usually blues label Blue Horizon. This edition sounds better than the old Akarma edition (2 in 1 - released together with the 1970 debut "Declare") - not to mention the German SPM version from 1990. A must! -
WHICHWHAT (see also: Woody Kern) - WHICHWHAT - Whichwhat's First - SWE Flawed Gems Edition - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
The first time on CD (apart from a Japanese card sleeve release, and with decidedly better sound on top of that)! Unfortunately this excellent and varied album was the only work of this British band, which included one Steve Harris - the drummer of the brilliant Woody Kern the year before! As for the music itself, fans of Jethro Tull, Traffic, Family and the aforementioned Woody Kern will certainly be genuinely happy! To be honest, about half of the album sounds like a potential second LP by the latter band. Some of the tracks (e.g. 2 and 4) are real rock gems, and the rest is not far behind (well, perhaps except for the poor Vietnam Rose - written by former members of The Easybeats). I have known this record for over 10 years and have listened to it at least 50 times. It is an absolute must for all fans of rock from 1969-1970. Highly recommended! -

WHO, THE - WHO - Live At Hull 1970 (2LP) - EU Verne Limited Press - LISTEN - VERY RAREprice: 170,00 PLN / 42,50 EUR
A rare double European vinyl limited to 500 copies, released in a superb sleeve and containing truly sensational, 112-minute live material recorded on 15 February 1970 - exactly one day after the legendary Leeds performance, released on the official album! Here the band sounds like a souped-up Led Zeppelin and at that time had no equal on stage! The Hull performance has never before appeared on vinyl (only on a double CD), and in my opinion it sounds minimally better still than the brilliant Leeds! An absolute must! Condition: NEW, but unsealed. -

WHO, THE - WHO - Live At The Fillmore East 1968 - SPA Top Gear Expanded Edition - VERY RAREprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Limited, very tastefully presented, fan-club CD containing the legendary performance by the band at New York's Fillmore East, from April 1968. With the previously released LP "The Who Sell Out" to their name, the band, having transformed from a recent mod-garage formation into a thoroughbred quartet playing heavy, improvised, but melodic rock, planned to record and release an official concert. Hence the perfect quality of this hour of material! Of course it is one of the most frequently copied performances in The Who's long career, but this version beats the old editions with slightly better sound quality and corrected (sped up) speed. This CD contains the only known live versions of "Relax" (here in the form of a long, Cream-style improvisation), "Little Billy" - known from the studio only from the LP "Odds And Sodds" - and an unknown cover of Eddie Cochran's "My Way". In addition three tracks (recorded in March 1967 for German Beat-Club) from London's Marquee and little-known, but superb tracks from singles and a British compilation (1968-1969) - in original mixes! Plus several rare, great photos from the period! An absolute must! (JL) -
