Released in 1967 by the Smash label, the debut album by this somewhat forgotten though truly excellent New York band took its title from two hits by the group released as singles in 1966 (in the United States they achieved considerable popularity). Both title tracks are beautiful, richly arranged pop-psychedelic and very melodic songs kept in a slightly baroque mood. In fact the other compositions are on an equally high level and will certainly appeal to lovers of the then work of The Zombies, the Beatles, the Lovin' Spoonful and also The Byrds - and that is probably a decent recommendation!!! -

A great-sounding European edition, released for the first time in a gatefold sleeve, of what is in my opinion the best American heavy progressive rock album of the late 70s! Released privately by the band in 1979 (but very professionally recorded and produced), the album simply delights with its pioneering combination of heavy rock (almost metal) with progressive sounds. One can hear the influence of Rush from the "2112" period, Black Sabbath, early Wishbone Ash and Judas Priest, though on the other hand the music of this trio will delight fans of Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol or Manowar. The original vinyl in perfect condition and with the rare insert is worth 1000 dollars. The sound is excellent - much better than the content of the YouTube links below. A MUST! NEW, SEALED. (JL) -

Please ignore the late date! In Spain many important and beautiful records appeared in 1975-79. The first (and best) album by this heavy-rock (slightly bluesy) group contains very dynamic music with a heavy, guitar sound. Long tracks (6-7 minutes each) with a dense texture predominate. The good old sound, as in 1972-74! And the instrumental miniature "Se Acabo" that closes the record is the most beautiful piece for classical guitar I have heard in my life! A must! -

Writing the first volume (A-F) of the record guide to British rock took me nearly 3 years, but it was probably worth it! On 520 COLOUR pages I have included over 1000 record reviews (often track by track) of as many as 360 artists active in the British Isles in the 60s and 70s. Printed on thick, coated paper, the book contains as many as 1700 colour reproductions (6cm by 6 cm) of the covers of original LPs, singles, EPs and CDs, as well as scans of first-edition vinyl labels only for selected releases (Vertigo, Harvest, Island, Deram etc). Additionally, at the end of each entry I have included full discographies (up to and including 1979) of catalogue albums (the A and B sides of all singles appear in the text instead), and I have also listed the more important CDs with archive material. I wrote this book for myself too, so I really put my back into it! Oh, and I have rated every title subjectively (on a scale of 1-10) - which can be very useful when hunting for records. Fifteen years have passed since the first volume was published. It is a fact that is hard to argue with, or to find anything in my defence... It is very likely that I came close to a world record for the length of the wait for the continuation of a series, and perhaps I should apply to the Guinness Book of Records myself :-) OK, joking aside... I am genuinely sorry that with such a long wait, full of missed deadlines, to put it colloquially, I 'overdid it' and disappointed legions of fans of top-quality rock, and for this I genuinely and sincerely apologise! The second volume probably was not worth waiting a full 15 years for, but I confess that it is the best writing of my life! I wrote the book, which runs to nearly 700 pages, completely anew in the last 18 months! On exactly 688 COLOUR pages (that is 168 more than in the first volume) I included over 1000 record reviews (this time mostly track by track!) of as many as 250 artists active in the British Isles in the 60s and 70s. Additionally I added the most important, concise information on the artists' careers, line-up changes and sometimes even an anecdote... Generally, the second volume is a little more narrative than its predecessor and not just a plain 'no frills' description of records. So I devoted 36 pages to Genesis, 24 pages to Jimi Hendrix, 23 each to Jethro Tull and The Hollies, 19 to Elton John, 17 pages to Hawkwind, and even The Incredible String Band took up 11 pages and Henry Cow over 4... Printed on thick, coated paper, the book contains nearly 2400 specially selected colour reproductions (6 cm by 6 cm) of the covers of original LPs, singles, EPs and CDs, as well as scans of only the first editions of selected vinyl labels. Additionally, at the end of each entry I included complete discographies (up to and including 1979) of catalogue albums (the A and B sides of all the singles appear in the text, however) and also listed the more important CDs with archive material. The more popular artists are covered up to the end of the 80s - with photographs of catalogue records and sometimes even singles! In some cases I covered important titles from the significant year 1980 - track by track. Oh, and I rated every title subjectively (on a scale of 1-10) - which can be very useful when hunting for records. If anyone would like a signature/dedication - I will do it with pleasure! We do not send the book together with records, as it is difficult to pack them together safely. 'Brytyjski Rock' is available only at Megadisc and from the Kagra publishing house and will not be available at Empik or in any other bookshop!
