An excellent and quite inventive compilation from 2004, containing the most interesting tracks from the first three albums, with the vocalist Rod Evans and the bassist Nick Simper (1968-69). It was a very underrated line-up - a million times better than the one with Coverdale and Hughes! The record is very attractively released and contains several rare and unpublished mixes (some sound like other versions) and a NEVER PUBLISHED, QUITE DIFFERENT VERSION OF "Kentucky Woman"! A limited, very rare, 80-minute CD with an excellent, complete show from Osaka on 29 June 1973. It was the HISTORIC FAREWELL CONCERT OF THE LINE-UP WITH IAN GILLAN AND ROGER GLOVER (please listen to Ian's goodbye to the fans on the final track) and also the last date of the second Japanese tour (a year after the recording of the LP "Made In Japan"). The setlist is identical to the classic MIJ, but the playing is a little different. I recommend the excellent, extended "Space Truckin'", altered because it is combined with "The Mule" - "Lazy", as well as a brilliant version of "Child In Time" - played at almost double speed, with an incredibly fast and completely changed guitar solo from Blackmore! The sound quality of this fairly professional audience recording is very good, though not flawless. It is a great pleasure to listen to from start to finish! A must! (JL) -

A superb, tastefully presented, though unofficial, limited compilation gathering probably all the most important recordings made by the band before the release of the first album ("On Through The Night" from March 1980) and never officially released on CD! In order: the first, legendary EP "Def Leppard" from January 1979 - regarded as the first record of the NWOBHM movement, the LP "First Strike", released in 1984 but withdrawn on the spot (containing seven demo tracks from 1979), a fantastic, 30-minute recording of a concert from the BBC archives from August 1979 (they never played as well as then) and three tracks, or early versions, from rare, very early singles. The covers of these releases are inside the booklet. So it is 80 minutes of dynamic, melodic playing for two lead guitars in the style of 'Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash and Tygers Of Pan Tang in one' - what is more with sound of excellent quality. An absolute must! -

Dickinson's third solo album, which was to be credited to the name Skunkworks, to which the label did not agree. The vocalist's intention was to move away from metal towards something more reminiscent of the work of Rush, Alice In Chains or Soundgarden, and the producer of the record was Jack Endino, known for his work on Nirvana's debut. Remastered 2005 edition, with an additional CD containing seven unreleased tracks from the same session and four live recordings from performances in Pamplona and Girona in Spain, on 31 May and 1 June 1996.
