A great, hard-rock classic (once released by Decca) recorded by musicians who a little earlier (also in 1970) played under the banner of Electric Food, and a few months later (already with vocalist John Lawton - later in Uriah Heep) changed their name to Lucifer's Friend. Heavy, guitar riffs; a solid rhythm section, occasional keyboards - the whole thing sounds like a high-octane version of the Uriah Heep debut with a touch of Deep Purple. Every fan of the first two LF albums will adore this album! Additionally two tracks from a rare single. Highly recommended! (JL) -

The first four albums, that is the whole studio output of Atlantis (a German band formed after the break-up of the group Frumpy) for the legendary Vertigo label, presenting a full picture of the development of this one of the most interesting German rock bands of the first half of the seventies. The band, led by the charismatic vocalist Inga Rumpf, skilfully combines blues rock, hard rock, soul and funk, creating a sound with great expressive power. The debut album delights with heavy guitars and strong, bluesy feeling, while the subsequent records bring increasingly melodic compositions, richer arrangements and greater stylistic variety. -

Only four tracks, filled mainly with guitar improvisations. A classic, old sound - just like in 1972! Highly recommended! -

A two-disc, expanded, Australian edition of the album "The Hoax Is Over", by the then most popular Australian band playing in the style of the early Allman Brothers Band. The first disc contains the album from 1971, on which Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs present a heavy, raw sound based on long improvisations. The centrepiece of the record is the monumental, more than twenty-minute version of "Gangster of Love", showing the band in full live energy. It is complemented by, among others, "Mississippi" and "Goodbye Baby", as well as a set of singles and live recordings from the late 60s and early 70s. The second disc has an archival character – it contains previously unreleased demos, live recordings and rare material from 1972–1976. Highly recommended! -

The only album by an American band, previously performing under the name Hickory Wind. The record contains ten heavy, garage tracks with a dominant fuzz guitar and vocals from all three members of the band. The tracks were recorded in 1971, but only saw the light of day in 1989. 2023 reissue. Highly recommended! -

Remastered British edition of the debut album by the formation founded by drummer Ginger Baker and Adrian and Paul Gurvitz (both ex-Gun and Three Man Army). The record, released in 1975 and thoroughly successful, was filled mainly with rhythmic and almost hard rock material. Worthy of note are Baker's lively drumming and several truly great tracks, such as the dynamic "Help Me", the rhythmically broken "Love Is", and above all the best on the album, the eight-minute "Mad Jack". In addition, this attractively presented CD includes a live version from 1975 of the track "Memory Lane". Recommended! -

A live album containing a recording of performances from the first tour with the line-up expanded by the vocalist Stephen Parsons and the keyboardist Peter Lemer, in 1975. The first of them (tracks 1-7) took place at the University of Reading, and the second (8-11) at the New Victoria Theatre in London. All the tracks have been remastered, and among them are thrilling performances of "People", "Memory Lane", "Wotever It Is" and Jimi Hendrix's "Freedom". 12-page booklet inside. Highly recommended! A remastered edition of one of the best British heavy blues albums of the late 60s (that is, of all time). The CD sounds superb - very clean and transparent, much better than the recent Esoteric version. Released in 1969, the only album by this British power trio is superb, heavily bluesy playing in the vein of Cream's live recordings, Fleetwood Mac from the period of the LP 'Then Play On', Ten Years After and Jethro Tull. The guitar was played here by the excellent Dave Clempson... Unfortunately, before the album, originally released by Harvest, hit the market, the guitarist accepted a favourable offer from Colosseum and, as they say, the rest is history! Additionally five bonus tracks - including three unreleased recordings (among them an alternative version of the brilliant 'Son Of Moonshine'). An absolute must! -

The first album, from 1972, is an absolute classic not only of American but simply of heavy music. Stylistically it is Led Zeppelin (or perhaps rather Leaf Hound) combined with Black Sabbath. The second on the disc (and third in the discography), the LP "Music", was a bit disappointing but had its moments. Even so, I strongly recommend it! Digipak. -

Admittedly the guy on the cover looked like a caveman (and in reality in the 60s he was a wrestler popular in the States), yet this album, recorded in 1971, contains great, bluesy, slightly swaying and quite heavyish rock with nice guitar parts, organ echoing in the background and occasional brass. A big surprise, all the more so as Beauregarde could sing too. Sometimes you can hear slight vinyl crackle, but I recommend it anyway! -

A wonderful, pioneering album - unquestionably one of the most important British titles of the late 60s. The record features, among others, Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Keith Moon. In my opinion it is a sort of "Led Zeppelin 0"! Eight bonus tracks from great singles! A MUST! The second album by one of the most underrated (it could have been the second Led Zeppelin) bands of the late 60s - The Jeff Beck Group - with the young Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on bass and Tony Newman (May Blitz, Three Man Army) on drums - on two bass drums! "Beck-Ola" is an excellent, hard rock, heavily riff-driven album in the vein of Led Zeppelin's debut - sometimes even heavier! The excellent, 7-minute "Rise Pudding" was played a year later by the German band Armaggedon. Four bonus tracks. A MUST! -

Originally released by Chrysalis in 1973, the only catalogue album by a hard rock quartet that, earlier, without a vocalist, had been called Big Bertha. The band was led by drummer Cozy Powell and guitarist Dave Ball (later in Procol Harum). Very nice, hard-hitting, thoroughbred playing in the style of the harder Free with a large dose of classic Mountain. In addition, 40 minutes of live playing from a London studio! Excellent sound quality! Highly recommended! (JL)
