The wonderful, progressive debut by this British band is one of the most thrilling albums of that period. The band combined, in a very skilful and original way, elements of rock, ballad, classical music and folk, and everything was kept in a rather dark and psychedelic mood. My favourites are the superb, dark, 6-minute "Hide And Seek" that opened side B of the original vinyl and the perhaps even better "Situations". In truth every one of the compositions here deserves attention... It is simply an album without weak points! In addition, eleven previously unreleased tracks (alternative studio versions and recordings for the BBC). -

The first two albums on a single CD! Both records are dominated by wonderful guitar playing with great vocals - in the tradition of Cream, Hendrix, Traffic and the late Beatles (melodies). The brilliant second album is for me the quintessence of old-school American heavy playing. Striking and melodic guitar parts; a strong but not primitive rhythm section; memorable, at times improvised tracks based on simple but oh-so-effective riffs. In fact the band sounded as if it came from Great Britain! Until recently I thought that the more psychedelic first album was somewhat worse than the "heavier" second - I was wrong. A must!
