GONG (see also: Soft Machine / Daevid Allen) - GONG - Continental Circus +1 - EU Ethelion Remastered Expanded Limited Press - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 110,00 PLN / 27,50 EUR
A European, remastered edition from the Ethelion label of the third album in the discography (though recorded in May 1971 - at the very start of the sessions for the second LP "Camembert Electrique"), being a recording of the soundtrack to a film about motorcycle racing, released only in France. Gong are of course the legendary, psych-progressive, French-British band led by the eccentric Daevid Allen. In my humble opinion (at the moment) it is this band's best album; perhaps not as refined as the brilliant 'Camembert', but certainly more 'rock' and played almost entirely seriously. The catalogue record is filled almost exclusively with expansive (3 times 9-11 minutes + 4 minutes of sound collage), somewhat cosmic, guitar improvisations based on a hypnotic bass line and heavily driving, though often jazzy, drumming. This is a template of how the transition from late psychedelia to early prog rock should sound! Zero synthesisers and little vocals! As a bonus a 13-minute, unique, live version of the excellent "Blues For Findlay", from the album, has been added. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! Condition: NEW, SEALED. (JL) -

GONG (see also: Soft Machine / Daevid Allen) - GONG - Continental Circus +10 - SWE Flawed Gems Remastered Expanded Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Swedish, remastered edition of the third album in the discography (though recorded in May 1971 - at the very beginning of the sessions for the second LP Camembert Electrique), being a recording of the soundtrack, released only in France, to a film about motorcycle racing. Gong is of course the legendary, psych-progressive, French-British formation led by the eccentric Daevid Allen. In my humble opinion (at the moment) it is the best album by this band; perhaps not as sophisticated as the brilliant 'Camembert', but certainly more 'rock' and played almost entirely seriously. The catalogue record is filled almost exclusively with extended (3 times 9-11 minutes + 4 minutes of sound collage), somewhat cosmic, guitar improvisations based on a hypnotic bass line and strongly driving, though often jazzy, drumming. This is the template for how the transition from late psychedelia to early prog rock should sound! Zero synthesisers and little vocal! Among the ten bonus tracks one can find a great, though completely forgotten, very collectable (and all in all immensely important) single from 1970 and eight tracks recorded live in 1970-1973. AN ABSOLUTE MUST! -

GOOD GOD - GOOD GOD - Good God - SWE Flawed Gems Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
On CD for the first time! Released in 1972 (by Atlantic), an excellent, unfortunately only album by an American group playing fusion, that is, a combination of jazz and progressive rock, and because the leader was a guitarist, there is a surprising amount of rock here! This is top-shelf playing - like the first two LPs by the Mahavishnu Orchestra or the debut of Brian Auger's Oblivion Express (from 1971). Excellent production and fantastic sound! Highly recommended! -

GOODTHUNDER - GOODTHUNDER - Good Thunder - US Digipack Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
American reissue of the only, but excellent, album by a hard-progressive band from the States produced by Paul Rothchild - the maker of The Doors' records! In short it is guitar, improvised and quite British sweeping playing with plenty of organ sounds - very close to Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Bloodrock with a good dose of Wishbone Ash. No fan of meaty, old rock will be disappointed! Highly recommended! -

GRACIOUS - GRACIOUS - Gracious! / This Is... Gracious!! (2CD) - UK BGO Editionprice: 100,00 PLN / 25,00 EUR
Both albums by this British band belong to the very top rank of British prog-rock, and the debut is one of my favourite little-known records in the genre!!! Extended compositions, charming melodies and (especially on the debut) an intriguing, very psychedelic mood. Absolute classic! Double British edition. A must! -
CD
GRAFFITI - GRAFFITI - Graffiti +2 - SWE Flawed Gems Remastered Expanded - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
Remastered edition (beating its predecessor hands down in sound) of the only album by an American formation - without a doubt belonging to the absolute canon of unconventional psychedelic rock. Released at the beginning of 1969, the album resembled the output of Freeborne, Beacon Street Union and Ford Theatre, but also of psychedelic The Beatles and even The Pretty Things. Plus two tracks from a rare single from 1968. Highly recommended! -

GRAHAM, DAVY - DAVY GRAHAM - Holly Kaleidoscope - UK Les Cousins Edition - LAST COPY - LISTENprice: 80,00 PLN / 20,00 EUR

CD
GRAIL - GRAIL - Grail - SWE Flawed Gems Edition - VERY RARE - LISTENprice: 60,00 PLN / 15,00 EUR
A remastered edition of the sole yet almost perfect album by a British band playing top-notch progressive rock, with strong influences of late psychedelia and not shy of acoustic playing with clear oriental elements. The album was recorded in summer 1970, but released only in January 1971 in Germany (in the black-and-white, abstract sleeve of the Metronome label) and in France (in a comic-style sleeve from Barclay) - never in the United Kingdom. This version contains both covers (the French one appears inside), so you have a choice. The sound quality is better than the Prog Temple edition. Highly recommended! BELOW IS A REVIEW OF THE ALBUM FROM THE SECOND VOLUME OF MY 'BRITISH ROCK' (G-L):..........It is worth knowing that two musicians of this somewhat forgotten band had previously played in the legendary freakbeat band The Game - responsible, among other things, for the sensational single The Addicted Man/Help Me Mummy's Gone (Parlophone, 1967), worth 1000 pounds. Grail was another progressive band (alongside, among others, Diabolus, Little Big Horn and Sunday) whose only album never reached the British market, although it came out in France (in a very striking, colourful sleeve) - released by Barclay, and also in Germany (in an equally nice black-and-white sleeve) – released by Metronome. The January 1971 LP Grail was produced by the (still relatively little-known) Rod Stewart, though judging by the rather raw sound in the sharper passages - I get the impression that instead of in the recording studio, Rod The Mod spent more time in the nearby pub… The album contained fairly advanced and at times very sophisticated progressive music - very typical of 1970, as it combined heavy rock with more than a pinch of psychedelia, folk, ballad and even oriental music. The opening Power, which lasts over 7 minutes and is built on heavy guitar riffs, was characterised by a primal, growling and almost heavy-metal vocal and by dynamic, though very nervous playing from the whole band (as if everyone were in a hurry somewhere) – a bit in the style of the band Jerusalem. Surprisingly, it was one of the few such dynamic numbers, as the following tracks showed the band in a slightly different light: the folky Bleek Wind High was recorded with acoustic guitar, clarinet and flute; the classicising, subtly arranged Day After Day was somewhat reminiscent of a more folky/balladic Procol Harum; the decidedly oriental, swaying Grail used sitar and timpani; the rhythmic Camel Dung, built on a flute part, was strongly saturated with Turkish folklore (at times recalling the work of East Of Eden and especially Quintessence), though it did not lack strong rock transitions; Sunday Morning, meanwhile, is a charming, atmospheric ballad recorded with organ, classical guitar, sitar and cello; by contrast, the track Czechers, dedicated to our southern neighbours (about the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968), was a combination of a dramatic ballad and galloping rock playing; and the closing, driving The Square, though not free of changing moods, was simply an excellent and quite intense summing-up of this intriguing, underrated and of course almost entirely forgotten album. I hardly need to add that the original vinyl editions (in perfect condition) are in great demand – fetching 300-350 euros. It may also be worth knowing that the vocalist Chris Williams later ended up in the German progressive band Abacus.
